Do you think AI will replace the film industry? Because I'm in film school right now and I'm worried it won't exist in the near future

Strong "probably!" Directors like Tyler Perry and others have come out and said video generation is saving them hundreds of thousands of dollars. Editing is streamlined. Music is streamlined. Even actors' voices can be AI generated. Screenwriting, which I studied, is not there yet but, like everything else, likely will be mastered by AI soon! Do your research, for sure, but MY OPINION is that we'll be able to survive when we learn how to use AI to become a one-stop-shop filmmaker! But, yeah, better to learn a marketable skill in a more secure field (tech - sorta, Healthcare, Program Management, etc...). Hollywood is gonna change drastically since regular people now can create entire films using AI, so imagine how much more things will change in 5 years.

@HumanAki Thank you for your response. How do you think I can prepare for the future? As I'd still like to become a filmmaker even if that involves using AI

@alextulloch1394 Oh, I don't think I'm qualified to answer that, so please do your research! That being said, AI is just another tool to create our stories! The better you are at using it, the (potentially) better you are as a filmmaker! I'm not sure film schools have integrated AI into their curriculums, so if your school does, great! If not, I'd reconsider, or at the very least supplement your learning with mastering AI! If you can use generative AI creatively, for example, you can turn your story into an animated film and save hella money! If you want to stress-test your script, have ChatGPT/LLMs be your "writers room" and dissect the hell out of it, and even suggest fixes based on (insert great filmmaker's) advice! All I know is, Hollywood is the goal for most because of resources, exposure, and connections; mone, fame and passion aside! AI will provide resources, which will help with creation and even exposure (read "marketing")! The only sorta downside is that the market will be saturated with potential filmmakers now, thanks to AI, so the "filtering" that Hollywood does, be it fair or not, will no longer apply, and the quality of the filmmaker will be what distinguishes them and their projects! But, if we don't learn how to use AI creatively, we'll LIKELY be left behind and woefully outmatched! We got no choice but to learn the craft and learn how to use AI to produce OUR OWN projects, not wait for Hollywood's permission! I'm rambling, and the following is my personal belief, but I 100% believe in it: We can't wait for someone to give us our shot! Build your projects and put them out into the world; over and over again! AI just made things incredibly cheap and accessible, so don't wait for some Exec to "greenlight" your dreams! Good luck to us both, friend! 🫡
