Great video and so easy to follow. I've been making and using comfrey products for a long time and wanted to make comfrey cream (I usually make salves). Wasn't sure whether I could use my usual comfrey infused oil as the tincture and this sounds much, much better. I have so many family members and friends who have benefited from comfrey when nothing else worked and cannot wait to try this. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and know that it is appreciated so very much.

Wow, I just found my FAVORITE CHANNEL EVER! Can I just say I love you, you had me at hello. I'm definitely growing some in containers from on. I say thank you to my plants as ai harvest them it was nice to see you talk to the plant as well, you don't usually see others do that. Is everclear good for the alcohol at full strength?
@HerbNerdSchool Жыл бұрын
Awe you’re the best!!!! Thanks for your sweet comment, and for taking to plants 🥰 🪴 Yes you can use everclear although it isn’t full strength so the math gets wonky.

What ratio should you use with dried plant materials?
@HerbNerdSchool2 жыл бұрын
anywhere form 1:3 to 1:5, 1:3 being more concentrated medicine

Wondering the same thing. Also, what the ratio would be then? Were you able to figure it out?

Hi, I tried to do it as you described but you never specified the recommended Vitamix speed. Mine resulted in the root bunching together and becoming a sticky ball, not mixing with the alcohol (97%) at all. It became essentially like a sticky, rubber, mass. Any reason for this? Any recommendations?
@HerbNerdSchool2 жыл бұрын
wow, ya the blender speed shouldn't be the issue. and you did the 1:2 ratio? Maybe you used dry comfrey root (?) in which case you would do a ratio of 1:5... maybe you'd be interested in the Intro to Handmade Herbal Remedies course opening next week on our site, check it out! www.herbnerd.com/intro-herbal-remedies-sales-page

Also, 95% may be too high…I know, it’s what I said in the video, sorry but comfrey mucilage is soluble in water, so try adding more water to dilute your solvent, hopefully this will break up the mass.

Curious if you educate or mention "energetics" in your online courses?
@HerbNerdSchool3 жыл бұрын
It is a part of my herbal vernacular for sure, but none of my videos go into too much detail on the subject. I am, however, putting together a seasonal herbalism series where I’ll be covering energetics as a foundational principal of herbalism 👍🏽 I’ll be adding class sign up info to my Instagram and website very soon so stay tuned!

interesting about the vodka mixing background, but isn't one way to avoid that is to dry out the plant material first from the water and then mix it later ?
@HerbNerdSchool2 жыл бұрын
yes, that would be a dry plant tincture, and the ratio of herb to menstruum would be 1:5 btw, please check out our Intro to Handmade Herbal Remedies course opening next week on our site, check it out! www.herbnerd.com/intro-herbal-remedies-sales-page

Hello! I've tried the recipe. I used 110 g fresh root with 220 ml 95% ethanol. But instead of blending it, I grated the root. When i poured in the menstruum, the grated pieces of root stuck together in one big strong clump. Is that normal? :(
@HerbNerdSchool2 жыл бұрын
Do you get a lot of rain? My root may not have been as hydrated as yours. The mucilage in comfrey root can be intense, and grating it made that mucilage very available to the solvent. It may just be looking for water? Add some water and bled it up in a blender and see if that helps.
@borqnaplashkov43852 жыл бұрын
@@HerbNerdSchool Thanks for the quick answer. Yes, the roots were very wet. The problem is that I don't have a blender. If I shake the jar really hard, the clump starts do break down, but there are parts that stay above the surface ( I used a very big jar - above 1 litre). Is it wise to pour more ethanol to cover it, rather than water?
@HerbNerdSchool2 жыл бұрын
@@borqnaplashkov4385 as long as you shake it everyday you’ll be fine.
