Man thank you for talking through your thoughts on why your doing what your doing when you are grinding. It really gets the ol thinking juices flowing. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

Nice and warm in your shop. Appreciate your knowledge on dialing in the breathing of saw motors. Far above my pay grade but good to know. Heard your name mentioned many times by Walter and Buckin'. All good. I'm sure Buckin's 2100 Husky caught your attention. Again, thanks for what you do.

Thanks for video best on 288 I've seen. Alot of information. Building my second 288. First one is strong and wasn't cut near that much. Can't wait to try the second. Now I have a clear direction. Thanks again for your time and video

Tinman, I just rehabbed by vintage 288xp, but I’d be nervous about porting it. I do have a spare cylinder though. Just don’t trust my hands. I sucked at the old Operation game.

I used a Hiway piston in my 044 it was 0.010 taller than the factory letting me cut a 0.007 pop up making 0.019 squish without touching the cylinder sometimes things work out like there ment to be lol.

Hey man this Daryl Knight I live in South Georgia I’ve just recently acquired a 288xp light and it was very hard to start cold by the time you did get it started you were ready to take a break so I to looking up some stuff and ran across you well I want to say thank you for helping people like myself someone had rebuilt it and used a aftermarket cylinder well not so good I had a factory cylinder that was ported I made a pipe for it so then I used the piston that came with the saw used my cylinder and 2 pulls cold runs like a champ the aftermarket cylinder has a decompressor button the factory one does not comparing side by side the factory is taller making the timing ports higher do you mind if I send you this cylinder I took off and let you look at it and then trash it

Where did you get that light? I find myself wanting more light when doing port work or dealing with all those small parts. Great channel!

Hay Tinman I have a 610 pro mach mcculloch I was wondering if you could give a good reference and a little bit more pep I would really like it to pull a 28 inch bar and I think it would be super cool to have a saw done by you because you are so perticilent on what you are doing I perticilent think that you have out shine the rest.

Hey Tinman, I just converted my 266 to 272 but with the 266 tillotson carb, and now I cant really start it. It just floods from the first pull. Its vacuum and pressure tested and when I start it with a little brake cleaner boost it runs perfectly but the idle has to be a little high. The carb needle seats and holds (tested with pressure pump) only thing I can think of would be the metering valve being too open or potentially bad carb kit. Thoughts?
@tinmanssaws Жыл бұрын
My first thought was metering lever is too high.

Hey Tinman, im rebuilding my Sachs Dolmar 133 and timed it, intake duration is 135° and its 85cc. Could the duration be lower because it has a pretty big sized intake? What duration would you grind to for a good work saw? Thanks man!!! :)
@Magoot24567 ай бұрын
Also, Exhaust is 106°, Blowdown is 20°, squish is .028...all of these numbers are with a BGD. Prolly gonna raise the Exhaust 2°...stroke is pretty long @ 40mm and a 52mm bore :)

Hello from Brazil my friend Can you try to help me, please? My chainsaw(chinese) has a problem with excessive compression. But when I remove the spark plug the piston rotates normally. Even placing your finger in thze spark plug opening causes the piston to become extremely compressed again. Yesterday I installed a completely new cylinder and piston, but the problem remains. I changed the spark plug, removed the carburetor and exhaust fan, and still the problem remains. Do you have any idea what it could be? Can I send you a video showing the problem? I have been seeking help with this mystery on various social media channels, Instagram, KZbin, but no one has been able to guess what could be causing the problem.

Never heard you mention watching water flow???
@Ceemysix Жыл бұрын
The piston ring has two jobs. First the obvious. Form a seal against the cylinder in order to facilitate making compression. Second and one commonly not thought of is transfer heat from the piston crown to the cylinder walls. The heat then radiates out to the fins. I would think widening those transfers will have an adverse affect on heat transfer with less contact surface with the ring. Yes I’m sure it helps flow a lot.
@tinmanssaws Жыл бұрын
Interssting thought but the ring in most if not all close port cylinders never enters the lower transfer, it stops just below the uppers.
