Hi. Thank you for a very interesting videos. I am a RC Offshore Heat Race person and we use 2 stroke 27cc and 35cc gas engines. I live in Norway and now the winter has arrived. Keep up the good work! Thank you very much. Best reg., John in Norway

Appreciate what you said about engineers......sometimes saw modifiers who don't have a clear/complete picture of how a product is developed and produced come across as haughty and arrogant as if they are better at this than the engineers who develop and produce the saws. It is helpful to see, understand and appreciate that if it weren't for the engineers and the OEM, they wouldn't have a saw to work on and MODIFY. A word to saw modifiers: you're not starting from scratch like we do; you're coming in very late in the game and changing the course of the product by modifying the saw....just as Tinman described.....if you had to pass the QA/QC tests like we do, you would be stopped short every time.....kindly meant, fm

Totally agree . I wouldnt think twice about altering the port timing .
@Connor33558
@Connor33558 2 жыл бұрын
hey tinman sometime you should port two cylinders for the same saw to show what different timing numbers can do. One could be torquey and one could be for high RPM. You could then compare how well each cut with a short bar and then a long bar.

We call it case matching in 2 stroke motorized bicycle “ world” The Chinese components are either poorly cast or do not match the cylinder to bodies. A lot of us that put your saw heads on China dolls have to do this. I have also done some of this work on a 49mm piston build that came from the factory with only have the transfer space open. You can see what I’m referring to in my videos.Aga thanks for the help. I’m learning with you and from you. Godspeed.

Tinman! You're awesome! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I recently ported a 064 that needed freshened up. Man it rips! I put a 36" bar on it. I cut a 35" fir yesterday, it really likes it! Now I'm doing a ms180. Domed piston, ported and decked, yep, decked the jug including bearing and seals. Why? Why not! Lol. Keep up the good work.

You may not need a ported 394 but it has already put a smile on your face and you haven't even built it yet! I can't wait to see your face when you run this saw with a 32" light bar. This combination of power and a balanced saw in your hands will really make you glad you built it. When I want to fell timber with a 32" bar a ported 394/395 is my favorite choice. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm.

I would consider this case matching or case porting. My understanding of case trenching is a groove cut in the case along the path of the big end of the rod, and/or counterweights, typically required when putting a longer stroke crank into an engine. You end up with a "trench" cut into the case, thus the name. The term is also sometimes used to describe the process of cutting "trenches" into a case to aid in the flow of air. However, this process involves significant removal of material, rather than flowing or building up areas as you have described. This type of trenching might be incorporated into the process of porting and case matching as you are doing.

A LOT of times, adding material in key places can do more than removing material. I have added as much as I removed, or more. The engine is an air pump, and it takes hp to move air through itself. The easier the air can move through it, the more power you will free up at the crank. I ported a 350 that spanks my stock 372xp. There is a ton of jb weld in the 350 and the ports are large. It is also VERY fuel efficient. I'm tempted to port my 372 the same way and see what happens.

Great video Tinman. I’ve been rummaging through IPL’s with one hand and watching my phone in the other joining up dots (been wondering what the innocuously titled ‘flange’ (PN 1119 020 1800)was for in 382’s for ages! Transpires it’s not a stuffer as initially speculated but rather a redirector of flow into the transfers. I don’t know if your 038 build has one under the cylinder but if it does I reckon there’s some gains to be had manipulating it’s flow characteristics). You sir are a scholar and a gentleman. Looking forward to the rest of this series. Al

I would raise the intake duration a couple degrees too, to suck in a little bit more air into the crank case. Veining the case will raise the overall volume of air allowed in case because of the material your taking out. It's a minimal but it's there. Or you can deck the case a couple thousand instead of the jug base and make a pop up to raise the compression. Basically I'm saying there's a couple ways to go about it but it needs to be thought about. But maybe that's just me. I did it once before and it was a ripper and very hot compared to none veined.

What I am hearing from my saws that I’ve been doing for people is RPM and throttle response. It’s not as responsive as a 500I but it’s much closer. My numbers are often 102-98 ex Blow down 20-30 Squish .020-.025 Intake 75-80 Tonsil shaped and textured intake widened and rounded corners on exhaust. Dual or triple port exhaust at 90% of exhaust port area no screens.

@@Sensei948 yes that does tend to build more carbon but If you operate a saw right they get hot enough to keep that carbon burned off and out go watch my video on the two big poplars, that saw did have an air leak in the intake boot but had little to no carbon build up because I ran it hard I don't let it cool down between cuts saws run better when ran hard and hot not overheated just hotter than idle, . .
