Interesting stuff, I have a 2010 445 (built May 14) and have used it hard all these years, I have it apart for a refresh and have finally started to understand the X-torq system. The way I understand it, it's just a (sophisticated) fresh air exhaust purge. The top end looks good, so I'm leaning toward leaving it stock, at least port timing wise. As I see it, X-torq MAY be an emissions system 1st, but a purer charge makes more power per cc. I just went thru my Poulan 2150, and the similarities shocked me, so I started learning about the Husky family and it's history. Learned a ton from your channel, and am looking forward to more tech on the X-torq saws (and the rest as well). I've had the disease for years, started with an tuned pipe setup Craftsman/Echo CS-302 back in the '80s ago (sadly stolen - sure wish I could find a clean one). Sorry to ramble on, it's my nature - Thanks again!

Both are great saws. The newer models of the x-torque 365 & 372 and OE 365 & 372 sold overseas have an additional stiffening rib on the clutch side case half, you can tell when you look inside the oil tank. It helps prevent the case from cracking when running long bars. Built right they are a joy to run.

Home Depot used the 365 special in the rental department in the early 2000’s. I was a technician there at the time and found them to be a great low maintenance saw as well, so I got a used one from there which only recently lost enough compression to where I had to put a 52 mm big bore in it and air filter modification. Great power and dependable saw for a small property owner/woodcutter.

Wow your home depot rented THAT SAW?! i just left my job as a tool rental associate there as well, location in London ontario, and we now only have Milwaukee cordless (Battery), Makita 16" corded electric, Echo 16" gas (no labels or anything, its a super old model) and an echo 20" cs590 timber wolf. I started to watch these videos from tinman regarding the cs590 as i was trying to learn more about it going into fall season. Im so jealous you got to work with a husq 365 special. The cs590 we had had compression out its rear end and not to mention it hated starting cold, despite the air filters being super rich with spit-back from the engine through the carb. makes me wish i was allowed to do the bolt ons for it but they wouldnt let me hahaha

I've got a 365 special from 2006, great saw that just developed a carb issue that needs attention. Personally I think my 266 from 1995 might be a bit zippier, but I have a soft spot for that saw as it was my first saw and I spent a summer spacing trees in the Queen Charlotte's with it.

Those 48 bore 365’s are just beautiful saw’s… they don’t beat the bearings out of themselves because they ain’t being pushed that hard… a 20 - 24 inch bar and the air filter and a plug once a decade and you’ll still be cutting your firewood 30-40 years later like she did when brand new… it’s a perfect platform…. The ease of service and maintenance gives it that little leg up on a 044… but both of us know that with a 20” bar and super sharp chain in real clean wood that the little 044 will be a snap faster through the wood… the 372’s in my mind are a little more forgiving of dull chain and heavy handed operators!

Great video Tinman! A couple of things, I believe the biggest reason they went to the limited coil(although the nylon bearings are a weak point) was more to do with the excessive weight of the x-torq piston. I believe it is also the reason the crank pin was so much thicker on the x-torq saws. I'm not 100% sure but I also believe that the x-torq saws run considerably hotter which is some of the reasons the nylon cage bearings tend to fail. The other difference in ignitions is a slight difference in timing curve and hotter spark at lower rpm to assist in starting. Those old 48mm 365 are one of the best saws ever built and punch far above their weight with minor mods. I have a Jonsered 2165 that has the basic "Spike special" mods and with a 24" bar or less can best a 372 x-torq and is every bit the equal of a stock 372 OE.

Walt/afterfleet did a similar video - so great reminder. A lot of people want to go bigger on these nice old (non-xtorq) 365's - but Walt was saying how nice, smooth, and broad powerband the 48mm size was, and not to put a 50 mm or 52 mm top end on it. And, yeah ... Walker showed pulling the cap on the xtorq 365 and grinding the little baffle, and instant 372, as they are both 50 mm. It does seem the xtorq's run hotter, and are a little more "peaky" in power, and not as forgiving for a firewood guy as the old school original edition. I'm interested in seeing your take on porting the xtorq, as I have a crappy 50cc strato that I'd love to mess more with - it already revs too high if you ask me. I'm always afraid I'm gona burn it up, heh heh. So, maybe mess with blending mix fuel into the strato port. Thanks for the vid.

I picked up an original edition 365 as a pile of parts from a surplus auction. It was missing top handle and bottom handle so I got a parts saw from the local small engine shop and swapped them over. The parts saw I think was an X-Torq since it had the newer sticker on it. The 365 has replaced my tired 257 in my saw line-up as my primary firewood saw. For having about $100 into it, I am realizing how much of a score it was.

Worst thing about this chassis is that metal guide for the starter rope. If you don't pull straight up it'll get sharp over time and cut your new rope within a month when it gets really bad. Fix is a completely new cover, makes a weathered saw look weird.
@230e42 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue with Stihl 046s. Years ago my dealer told me if I started the saw like they designed it to be started the starter, rope, handle, and thimble should last a long time. I changed how I start all my saws and stopped wearing those parts out every month including my 2018 372 x-torque that I purchased new. Now with youtube I cringe everytime I see someone drop start a saw or put the bar on a log and yank the starter rope back at a 45 degree angle to what it should be and remember the times I wore starters out like crazy.
