Its boat work time. In this video I replace the rotten floor in my tinny and I put new carpet on the casting deck. I also give you a bit of a glimpse of it in action with some fishing and cruising around the Gold Coast.
Hope you enjoy it and are staying safe out there while the world fights Covid 19.

Great work pal. Great to use the old floor as a template. I think if I ever had to do mine I’d think about going aluminium angle with checker plate to keep the weight down as I only have a 3.8m tinny. I always enjoy watching your channel. Keep the vids coming. 😃🐟🐟👍

Watched again. Went out in my boat the other day, and felt the floor crack. After having a bit of a look I noticed that my floor has started to rot too, so looks like I have to do the same thing. Thinking about going aluminium angle support & checker plate floor this time to prevent ever having to worry about it rotting again. Stay safe mate.

That sounds like a good plan. Ideally I would like a boat with a fully welded self draining hull. Maybe one day.

@@AusAdventure That`d be nice, although i also like your boat. I like the 4.2 metre boats. Big enough to head outside but small enough to head up some of the small shallow rivers, still easy to launch & retrieve alone. I always get a bit envious when I see those Quintrex Renegades go past.

Great instruction, mate. I’m almost due to do this to my 4.1 and will also install a casting deck. Is it necessary to seal both sides of the marine timber as you did or is that just added protection for longevity of life? Cheers 🤙🏻
@AusAdventure
@AusAdventure 4 жыл бұрын
Mate it was a case of I had some paint and I wanted to prolong the life of the floor for as long as I could. Especially because the new carpet was a lot thicker than the old stuff which causes it to hold a lot more water. The timber not drying out quickly or properly is the major cause of rot. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Great Video. I see you used Marine Ply and also painted it to protect. Could you just use a good structural ply and Paint to get the same result? Also, what thickness did you use?
@AusAdventure
@AusAdventure 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate. I guess it depends on where it is in the boat and how long you want it to last. I have regular ply on the casting deck which I just sealed. I wasn’t so concerned up there as I can remove it easily from the boat and put it in the sun to dry. The floor cannot be removed and sits in the shade where I park my boat so it stays wet for a long time after I wash it. Hence why I used marine ply and sealed it. I want it to last as long as possible. As for thickness it was around the 10mm mark. Hope this was helpful.

Hi Wondering how you know where the screw holes in the aluminium are after you have the carpet glued down? I know you marked and pre drilled the ply? Also does treated ply chemicals cause reaction with the aluminium which causes holes to form.
@AusAdventure
@AusAdventure 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ross I put a couple of screws in with just a small section sticking through the bottom of the ply. I then used that as a guide to find the holes in the alloy. When I had a couple lined up the rest found the holes easily. Hope that makes sense. The ply doesn’t react with the alloy but the stainless screws do. 👍

Isn’t that a contact adhesive? You are supposed to put glue on both the carpet and board and wait till they become tacky and the put them together.

Nah mate that glue is not a contact adhesive. That is one of the reasons why I used it as it’s easier to do one surface and you don’t have to wait before putting the two materials together.
