No more fish bowl, Tesla nerds! Big thanks to Martin for tinting the Tesla with XPEL Prime XR Plus. These are the moments I am so glad I can just sit back and watch because some of the challenges presented by the Nerd3 did not look fun. Martin asked Inside the Hex members to submit questions in advance, so we were able to address many of those throughout the process.

Pro Tips from a two time “Tesla Nerd” Always use soak shields when tinting a windshield. Never stand on a customers door sil. Use some type of protective barrier on the door cards. Especially on Audi’s.

I’ve never let myself try tint on my alpine white ‘98 M3 after being scarred by a crappy tiny job on my alpine white ‘93 325i many years ago. I’ve sworn never never again - but I’ll keep an open mind w/ all the new tint technology!

Also another benefit is Ceramic tint does not block radio frequency /signal compared to metallic ie regular tint especially if you have radar snd laser jammer. I have 50 front and back and 40 % all around

I wish I watched Mat's video before I got tint done on my 24' model 3 perf. My 3 series came with tint and felt that it lacked privacy (black interior), then put 35% on my Tesla (white interior) and damn near zero privacy. Lessons learned

I have XPEL Prime XR Plus 70 on one of my trucks, including whole windshield. It does GREAT with heat rejection. Plus you can hardly tell the truck is tinted.

I have XR Plus on my Model 3 with white seats. My first car I did 20%, but the reflection in the side mirrors was terrible, so on my second one (first totaled) I got 30%. Too light for Texas. One thing that sucks is that with my 2018, the roof had the IR blocking coating that was colored outside. The roof (over the driver) didn’t need tint film. I only did the one piece back window. On the 2020, they got rid of that coating. The heat is broiling through. I am going back this summer for the roof to get done. Interested in seeing what your 70% on the E36 looks like. I’m planning on doing the same thing on my 997 Turbo. I love the look with the windows clear. But I need the heat rejection.

I have never thought about shrinking the back window side to side. At 36:24 I'm like OMG! Pro-tip, don't let the computer cut that back window. You need a lot of "Runoff" Notice how the tint extends way past the window, that way there is give. As soon as you crease that it's game over. That one piece is about $40-50 bucks at cost.

I wish I had this guy. I went to a franchise to have my beautiful Lunar Rock 4Runner tinted. Ended up with many mistakes and a dent from the installer sitting on my roof to do the windshield. Never again.

11:28 98% IR heat blocking and 72% total solar. Jeez that sounds like a massive reduction. I NEED that in Puerto Rico. I'm gonna have to check if the shop that's done my tints all my life (since I was 16 so over a decade) has this technology. Hopefully they do cuz the sun here in PR is just gruelingly unforgiving. Thankfully this summer has been extremely rainy and gloomy so far but I don't expect it to be like that for months on end. It's been years since that happens... wouldn't mind if it happens again this year actually.

Great job by Martin. I know that back window is a pain and most installers want to split it. Or worse, do the lower part only! Ugh. I heard you both discussing water management. Specifically issues with control modules getting wet. Tesla used to (and may still, but I haven’t heard a horror story in a whole) have a control module at the base of the windshield under the speaker grille on the Model 3. More than one tint installer paid to replace it after soaking down the dash. Martin, hope you are aware of this.

Anyone have experience with windshield tint? My local shop encouraged me against it saying especially if you use prescription lens glasses or contacts, at night time it can cause dizziness/blurriness. Any experience with this? I find my car getting pretty hot especially now closer to summertime, and I really want to get it done. Again would be XPEL nano ceramic

I've had every car I've owned since 2002 with the entire windshield tinted. I am extremely near sighted and wear contacts or glasses. There is no issue at all with any type of lenses.
