Yeah, but I take with me for edits and it's plenty fast and tiny. So I use it with my MacBook.

Are these ssd's good to edit 4k video off of ?
@craigneidel
@craigneidel 10 ай бұрын
Yes, for the most part they work great. About 800 MB/s etc. with the enclosure is fine for 4K.

Assuming it’s slow because Apple silicon still isn’t giving 3.2 its full speed. Thunderbolt drives run properly at full speed

No all ssds that are 10 Gbps connections will top out around 900 MB/s even on win pcs

Ok, thanks you. I did a video on the Graugear Thunderbolt enclosure with a fan a few weeks ago. Take a look at that video as that was a nice enclosure.

Hi, how about the heat & speed when copying large amount of data like aroud 100Gb? No drop speed?
@craigneidel
@craigneidel 11 ай бұрын
I tested up to about 50 GB and it's runs fine. That is the largest copied I normally due besides once in a blue moon I'll copy more for a backup.

Hi Craig I'm just getting into the world of Mac and have purchased my first ever macbook and its the macbook pro M1 I'm inexperienced in terms of storage and what to get so my question is what's the best external memory solution to get for my M1 Pro? I film a lot of 4K 60FPS video on my GoPro 12 and also on my Samsung s23 Ultra phone Do I get an SSD or name drive and connect it? My budget is upto $150 and I'd most likely want 1TB storage If you have 2 or 3 recommendations I'd appreciate that Is SSD better than nvme ? Any links would be super helpful

If you are not too familiar a good choice is always the samsung T7 or Samsung T9 external SSD drives which are around $100 for 1 TB.

Awesome review! I had a question. So I am looking to purchase the satechi docking station for Mac (I saw your video review on it). I will be using that and attaching the NVMe SSD you provided in the video as extra storage, as I am in need of expansion. Now I have been on a binge watching of your video to find the best solution to an extra external storage as a backup of the videos I would have in my Satechi. I’ve watched your other videos, such as the OWC SSD enclosure which looked promising and also this video which looked great too! (Added most items to my wishlist to remember) I am seeking help in find in the best solution for this. The external that I would want is mainly to store a duplicate of what I would have in my Satechi Dock SSD, so it would almost be store away. So I would really appreciate some guidance on what to do here. I’ve looked on for good DAS, but not many reviews on any good ones. So I’ve settled with the Satechi Dock, since I need a docking station for my monitors anyways, and will then just purchase an extra external storage system. If you have a specific video you could link that would be greatly appreciated! I’ve really been enjoying all the videos I’ve watched during these times and subscribed as well👍enjoy watching. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Side note: I’m not caring too much about speed. Just more about reliability and endurance, since my extra storage will be almost just stored away. Thank you!

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking here since I'm not sure exactly what type of Mac you have (MacBook, Mac mini, iMac) etc.? Also, how fast do you want the storage etc. I have done a ton of videos on SSD enclosures and they all have pluses and minuses depending on needs, speed, etc. but overall they all should work fine if you get a quality SSD drive. I also did a video on a Terramaster DAS recently but that might be overkill for what you need. Thanks for watching all the videos but I'm asking because if you have a MacBook Satechi makes a Hub with a built in SSD enclosure in the Hub etc. and I just did a video on another one by Cabletime etc. So there are options.
@craigneidel

If you don't need speed then a 10 Gbps enclosure is fine (will get about 900 MB/s roughly) and just get a quality SSD drive and you will be fine.
@SantiagoCastilloCasados

okay thank, yeah I’ve got a MacBook Air M1. Any good quality SSS recommendations. Yes I don’t particularly need anything with super fast transfer speeds, just a storage options really. Reliable. Yes I saw the DAS video and while it is nice, it would be slightly overkill for what I need it for.

@@craigneidelI like the OWC SSD enclosure you did a video on and this one as well. Out of these which would you recommend most, for my needs? Or other enclosure you would recommend. I guess really the most important part is the SSD so which of those would you recommend. Affordable but reliable, 1tb is sufficient since I would probably do the same setup with your SSD on the Satechi Dock. Thanks again for your response!

The tag line says "For Your M3, M2, and M1 Mac" but you are next to your 2017 iMac. Can you use this external SSD with a 2017 Imac?
@craigneidel
@craigneidel Жыл бұрын
I'm sitting next to an M1 24" iMac and not a 2017 iMac. I'm not sure where you see a 2017. But with that said it should work with the USB-c port on a 2017 27" iMac.

Sorry! I didn't notice the iMac. I guess I was thinking it was the 2017 iMac in your other videos. Great videos, by the way. Very helpful. Do you think this external drive would work with a 2017 iMac 21.5"? I'm sort of "tech support"for us Mac users in the wilds of Wyoming!😀@@craigneidel

I may not be as fast on the 2017 imac but should work as long as it has the usb-C connection. Thanks again and good luck out in Wyoming.

the only thing im considering on external storage is time machine but idk if it is worth it xd i have a 2tb nvme but i barely used 200gb plus next mac release i get m4 max chip, called istyle and told me i can sell it to them as buyback for another mac, there is also one more thing i did today, i tried crossover for games and it is worth it next month i get a year subscribtion since it fixes my games it runs on steam only atm for me but that is enough for now.
