Just want to say thanks for 1) uploading a cheaper, smaller, fewer hoppers (so less lag when not in use) multi-item sorter tutorial and 2) giving bedrock version tweaks. I learned *so much* about (bedrock) redstone mechanics by attempting to build a bunch of different multi-item sorters-including yours-and discovering that most of them don't work under bedrock! I built my first iron farm in order to afford all of the hoppers... and discovered bedrock iron farm mechanics are different! I eventually got everything working using silentwhisperer's version of a tangotek-style system... but eventually converted to a 2xhopper speed version inspired by Jonathan Peters. Droppers really are the way to go for this, IMO. 🙂 I play bedrock so I can play on PS4 or switch with my kids. And most players these days are using bedrock. I know many KZbinrs started out on Java and aren't used to the differences, so going to extra effort for bedrock players is appreciated. And I know a lot of folks look down on Bedrock redstone mostly because its random orderings usually need slightly slower timings. But (as a software engineer) I've come to really appreciate the design decision they've made on bedrock. E.g. max queue sizes + randomness is a tried and true design pattern: it's baked into TCP/IP, Ethernet, etc! And IMO dropping QC and BUD from pistons while adding soft inversion and dust redirection makes bedrock pistons so much easier to work with. Etc. 🙂 When I had just gotten started, I really enjoyed the quality and style of your tutorials but I was disappointed when they didn't work on bedrock. On the other hand, your auto-chicken cooker worked great and did keep me and my kiddos fed (until we updated to golden carrots)! Anyway thanks, and I hope you'll continue to give bedrock adaptations whenever necessary. :)

You should be able to reduce hopper lag by putting Composters on top of exposed hoppers. This keeps them from trying to "scan" above them for items constantly.
@NicholasAEvans3 жыл бұрын
@@ForeverLaxx that's actually only on Java. On Bedrock edition locking the hoppers makes them almost free, but unlocked with a container over them doesn't do much.

Great concept for all those small volume things undeserving of their own dedicated chest. I only wish this video included a "how it works" explanation in case modifications are necessary to incorporate into existing world systems (i.e. "teach a man how to fish" vs. "give a man a fish")
@yannlee78212 жыл бұрын
Very late, but those who are interested how it works. The dropper is just a simple dropper elevator that push the item up a block. The hopper pointing in the chest tries to push the item in. If there is no space then it drop to the bottom hopper into the dropper elevator.

For anyone struggling with the 'dropper item stuck' issue: For Bedrock, this is what I did. Near to the bit you build at 4:22, build a 4 by 4 square with redstone dust in each corner. then have Redstone repeaters in the remaining gaps around the outside, all facing left on their respective side (should create a loop). Set each Redstone repeater to 2 ticks (or just notching it once on the repeater) and then link up one of the corners of the contraption to the dust placed at 4:34 in this tutorial. Use a STONE button on one of the sides of your corners on your 4x4 to activate the clock (which is what you have built by now) and watch it go. That fixed the congestion for me. You can deactivate it by cutting the circuit on the clock with one of the Redstone corner pieces. It is a little noisy but I found it helps. Note: for the MC vets here, yes I know I explained something pretty elementary but ya don't know who is gonna be watching these tutorials right? :)
@yomama44563 жыл бұрын
where should i build the 4x4?

For me, just turning on the small torch of the comparator made the loop fire. it only gets stuck when the dropper has 9 stacks of the same item. If the dropper has 9 stacks of different items, it's okay for some reason. If the dropper has 9 stacks of the same item - 1 (ie: 8 stacks x 64 + 63), it still fires. Once there are other items in the dropper, you can click the small comparator torch off to let it do its thing. 👍

This is great! I'm not that much of a redstone savvy, but to my understanding most sorters have an entire chest dedicated to a single item. I do not need an entire chest for my diamonds, but I do like having an entire chest dedicated all of my "gems and metals" (lapis, iron, gold, emeralds etc).

tested in 1.19, still works the same. Slow and noisy but incredibly simple to build and reliable. 1) Yes single items will be stuck in droppers until are pushed by other items - in the comments there are many suggestion how to fix this, I suggest just to ignore it and keep using the system, or just dump inside a stack of dirt and let it push those "stuck" items if you're not using the system since a while. 2) yes the redstone clock at the beginning (the circuit starting with the comparator) will stall if the dropper before it is completely full - my random solution was to put the comparator in SUBTRACTION mode (right clicking on it), and it will keep working even with a full dropper. I would underline again how this system is VERY easy and VERY cheap to build. The last time I built a storage system I needed to build a tnt duper for a cobblestone generator for all the droppers and observers it needed :D Always great content

i think i just realized that the chests have to have every inventory slot filled with at least one of the item you want to be "caught" because this isn't necessarily a sorter? it more of a item dump where the dropper will just drop the item into the next available free slot; and will "catch" an item that it has space for it. the system will just dump the item being sorted into the next avaliable open slot. really needed to highlight the fact that you need to have the chests inventory slots full to pass the item along to the next chest.

However, one item to note is that if you are loading a lot of stacks of items is thd glitch described at the beginning of the video may occur. When it does and you remove the items and the system stopped then check your input hopper. Mine was full of the items that broke the system. Remove them to fix the issue.

Thanks for the tutorial. Very easy to follow along. My problem lies with my input was in a different place and I didn't need a dump chest. I also wonder, can it be stacked? Making a long chain of these could become quite the space hog. This kind of info would have been helpful. I just used a bunch of hoppers to get my input connected with where your input is. Probably not the most efficient but as a person who doesn't "do" redstone, was all I could come up with.
