In years of trundling about in the wild, I've run into cougars, bears, coyotes, wolves, and a somewhat agitated moose... and none of those encounters scared me as much as the time a porcupine rattled its quills at me. Those are some brave little goats! (And people!)

I used to breed and raise goats when I was a teen. I first had 3 adults of which had a few batches of offspring and I can tell ya.. from birth to adulthood these creatures are adorable, curious, gentle, and excited through and through! and when they become mothers you can add 'very protective' to that list c: 🐐❤️

You folks are so cool and wonderful! I don't know if you guys are aware of, or got the idea from for the "Meet and Greet" of goats and other animals from the origin of the expression "Got your goat!" Race horse owners and grooms once believed that putting a goat in the stall with a race horse at night ensured the horse had a relaxing night before a race. Is that belief the origin of your idea for introducing goats to other animals? So, the expression "Getting" or "Taking away" someone's goat means "To do something that denies a person relaxation or fun by upsetting them." Your walking the goats hopefully facilities the animals to relax and enjoy the encounters...I wonder if goats can be calming for people too?
@doakley39006 жыл бұрын
I agree with your observations
@Jasonwolf14954 жыл бұрын
Usually what people mistake for "shooting" is the porcupine raising the spikes up and hoping which will give it that extra inch to poke into something. If you're the one getting pricked you probably are a bit distracted to not realize the quill wasn't fired out. This has just been my experience working with people in parks in NY.

So the porcupine escort keepers, they have something that looks like a soap bar on a stick. What is that anyway? Is it like, a scoop to push the porcupine if you need to guide him? I've seen the keepers have those soap bar things in every video the porcupines are in :)

Whats that giant Q-tip the procupine handlers have? What´s it for?
@PuccallpaGirl6 жыл бұрын
martialme84 The porcupine is most likely target trained. It has been trained to target the tip of the "q-tip" with its nose in exchange for treats. The keepers use the tip of the stick to show the animal where to go. The animal is able to follow on it's own and is able to take walks and participate without needing to be handled or stressed out.
