Hi Eric, just wanted to tell you that I absolutely love your tiny house. I have been watching different videos on these for about 5 yrs now. I would love to do the same thing, but I am afraid of being out in the desert alone. I love that your house doesn't have a loft. I am disabled and can't do a ladder or stairs, nor would I want to even if I could. I have a small cast iron stove that I have always hoped would sit next to my rocking chair in a little cabin somewhere, but that doesn't look like it's ever going to happen. Congrats on making your dream come true. I hope you enjoy it for many years to come!
@LuthorvilleCA6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this. You know, I often complain that there are 2 types of tiny house viewers - those who watch videos to get ideas for doing the same thing and those who merely dream about it. In saying that, I often berate those who only dream, because they tend to be very irritating and judgmental jackasses who constantly share their unsolicited opinions... "I don't like this part of your tiny house..." "I wouldn't have done that..." "This was a waste of space..." "The storage should have been done this way..." Who on earth made them think their opinions were relevant? Why do they presume their fantasies are an improvement over the reality of a strangers life? But... This comment from you just gave me a whole new perspective. Maybe there is a third category of viewers out there. Namely, people like you. People who have issues and problems in their life, which might physically hamper their ability to live this way. So, unfortunately, they are only able to dream. Not because they lack courage or resolve, but because circumstances beyond their control are dictating their limitations. Fate is preventing them from creating the reality they want... Thank you. You've opened up my eyes to a possibility I hadn't considered.

If I had a patch of desert, I'd plant it with ironwood. It's not the fastest growing tree, but it's supremely drought tolerant and quite valuable. Not only would it vastly increase the value of the property, having some shade helps keep your brain from baking in the sun, an important consideration when living in the desert.
@LuthorvilleCA7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip!

I live in the desert. Ironwood omly grows where there is plenty of water for them you see them closely to springs or where the groundwater is not too far away. As for shade, not in your lifetime

Wonderful, thank you so much for the tour and your time, I just loved your house, and the way you explained everything, you are so clever and full of fabulous ideas. Don't you get lonely? I am from New Zealand in the South Pacific area, and am a 78 year old great grandmother, and I really enjoyed watching your videos, I would love to have done something as daring as you have, when I was younger, but mothering was my thing, have been widowed for 40 years now, and don't keep the best of health, but still have all my marbles and memories lol, have a wonderful, enjoyable, creative, adventurous life ❤️🙅🙏👏👏👏
@LuthorvilleCA5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, ma'am. I really appreciate your comment. Do I get lonely? Not at all. I always say loneliness is determined by the substance of our relationships, not our physical proximity to people. After all, there are many lonely people out there, living in cities all around the world. Even though they are surrounded by people all the time, they get lonely, because the people in their lives hold no value. Like so many American citizens, I became introduced to the splendor of New Zealand through Peter Jackson and the _Lord Of The Rings_ films. You have a very beautiful country. Maybe you didn't do something as daring as I am doing, but don't underestimate the courage of motherhood. Raising human beings, and doing your best to instill them with character and virtue, is a very noble way to live a life. Sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. That's a very young age to lose someone. But it sounds like you have continued to live a life of joy and optimism, and I'm sure he's proud of you for that. Thank you again for your comment and God bless you for being a kind and warm soul in a weary world.

Those who think tiny houses are "cute". 2. Those who intend to build one. The "cute" group just want "tours" and don't care about technical information. The "builder" group doesn't care about "tours" and just want to know technical data. As for the jacket, it keeps the sun off me. Check out my _Why do you dress like a cowboy?_ video.

I am so happy your dream is being realized. I have spent the last couple days watching your videos from the beginning up to now and the whole experience has brought me so much hope and inspiration. I am doing the same kind of thing-a WIP and was coming to the point of feeling like a hopeless failure. Watching your journey has really rewired my attitude and I now realize that bumps, obstacles and challenges are just that and NOT failure. It's a hope to see as you worked through them. I look at my list of videos and see how much I have in common with you as far as the whole move in mess, paring down, feelings and some fear involved. I am not where I want to be yet, but have some wonderful people in my life that are of great help and support! After seeing your journey, I have no doubt I will get there, though the journey will NOT be exactly the way I expect it to be. So much congrats and wishing you continued success.
@LuthorvilleCA6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for leaving a comment. I never imagine many people take the time to watch all of my videos, or even a majority of them. But, you are 100% correct - if a viewer wants to truly grasp my "journey", they need to watch all of it. I am glad my efforts have inspired you. And you are right - setbacks are not failure. Quitting is failure. The question is, will your setbacks make you quit, or will you pick yourself up and overcome those setbacks? And, yes, the journey is NEVER what you expect. The journey NEVER goes as you planned or as you visualized it. There will be things you think are easy, and they will become huge obstacles. There will be things you dread for fear they will be difficult, and you will find they were nothing to worry about. Just stick with it. Keep that goal in your mind. Keep heading toward it. Failure is not an option. You will get there.

I enjoyed your video but my question is, don't you freak out at night ? What animals have you observed there at night especially when there's moonlight? I worry that you can be ambushed at night the wild west style. Is it risky to be there at night? Have you ever had a stranger stray into your location ?
@LuthorvilleCA6 жыл бұрын
I get these questions very frequently. There are coyotes. Most of the time, they will run away if they see you. They are the only animals that could potentially attack you. There are also mountain lions and bears in California, but they rarely wander into the desert. While I have seen a stranger or two, they are usually harmless folks out riding an ATV on the weekends. As for dangerous people, there are not many criminals looking to rob trailers in the desert. Why would they? Most desert dwellers are both poor and armed. Not exactly the kind of target you would want to burglarize.

*How do you lock everything down for when you move the trailer?* That is a process. They are temporary. I want better ones. *Have you ever had people driving through your property using the road system that goes through your property? Are you okay with people doing that?* Some roads on my land are public roads and some are private. I prefer people to not drive on my private roads, but I can't stop anyone from driving on public ones. Even my public roads often go for days, sometimes over a week, without any traffic whatsoever. Nope.

So your phone on the nightstand is just for nostalgia?
@LuthorvilleCA6 жыл бұрын
Nope. I have a fully functional landline phone, but I don't require a phone line to use it. When my videos claim I have a "technologically advanced" tiny house, people never seem to believe me!
@freedomdove6 жыл бұрын
Interesting. So have you made a video showing off your line-less landline phone? I'm afraid I've only seen just this one vid of yours...

Not yet. I do plan on making a technical video soon, which will showcase that and other neat stuff.

Anywhere you can acquire water for an RV, such as RV parks or campgrounds.

There will be. It was so freakin' hot in the summer, I didn't feel like shooting. Then I got ideas for my other KZbin channels and started on scripts for that. Then I realized a technical video is more complicated than I expected, so I started scripting that. So, I am still planning on uploading more. Just taking me awhile.

Is that a real Colt single action or clone? Being you're in California I have to ask such stupid questions. I would not be surprised if that's not allowed in Cali because it does not have a lawyer lock on it.
@LuthorvilleCA6 жыл бұрын
That's not a stupid question. Colt isn't the only company that makes a single action. Uberti. Ruger. Cimarron. Heritage Manufacturing. And more. There are a lot of them out there. Colt is a bit out of my pricerange.

Thank you, kindly, Jane. I appreciate that. I have no plans to do a cooking video. You have to remember, I am heterosexual bachelor, which means my version of "cooking" is to heat up soup or make some rice. You wouldn't find my methods very educational.

Hey what is the property tax like there in CA?
@LuthorvilleCA7 жыл бұрын
Like anywhere else, that depends on what is on the property and the size. You own a tiny, empty plot in the middle of nowhere, taxes are cheap. You own several acres in Beverly Hills, it will be expensive as heck.
@jakeweston86167 жыл бұрын
Well what I meant was in the county where Lutherville is. Say 40 acres or so.
@LuthorvilleCA7 жыл бұрын
Again, that is not an easy question to answer. 40 acres on a paved road with utilities and a big ranch could have huge taxes. 40 acres that is miles away from a paved road and is just raw land might be $200 in taxes. There are many variables which can change the tax value by thousands of dollars: How accessible is it? How many utilities are there? What is built upon the land? All of these things can make your taxes $100 a year or $3000 a year.

Upvoted for NRA hat! I love that people keep asking what the white stuff is without reading the other comments, first. I grew up in Lompoc, CA, which has one of the largest diatomaceous earth mines in the world. I had heard of cockroaches, but never saw one until I moved to Santa Barbara. My wife and I had terrible problems being overrun with cockroaches, no matter how much we cleaned. We found out that the neighbor below us was refusing the exterminator service! One day we were talking to the neighbors, a couple of guys in their 30s with pizza boxes, empty beer and soda cans, and dishes clogging their sink... and asked them how they dealt with the bugs. "We don't have any." What??? And then he showed me the baggie of white powder. Being in Santa Barbara during the 1980's, I asked, "What? Do you give them a tiny rolled-up dollar bill and expect them to snort it? Then what?" He then told me about diatomaceous earth, and how it completely cured their roach problem (the insects, anyway). I asked some scientists about it, and they said there were a couple of components at work. The tiny razor-sharp edges in the material, and the super-fine powder. As the roaches crawl through it, it sticks to their legs and underbelly. Then they crawl over and around each other getting it spread all over the other roaches. The fine powder can clog their exoskeleton, suffocating them, and the sharp jagged edges gets in their joints and tears them apart. Either way, a wonderfully gruesome end to roaches, and other insects in your home.
@LuthorvilleCA6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment and the upvote. Diatomaceous earth keeps away insects and the NRA hate keeps away hippies. LOL The other way the diatomaceous earth works is that it dehydrates the insects. Their exoskeletons also keep all the moisture in their bodies. The cutting action of the powder causes the moisture to escape.

I am in fact looking for rural land this is why your video came up in my suggestions . On the Californias peoples rights . I think that if the firearms companies hadn't made every compromise in the guns to suit that of the ridiculous restrictions that never stop . That the people wouldn't had stayed in the pot . As it would have boiled quicker . There is a reason for the gradual stripping of rights and restrictions . And I even believe that the huge gun manufacturers coordinate with the state to make the go along to get along comprises . If for no other reason but to make the peasants feel like they won or got over of the man when they never won anything . The reason for the slow gradual 20 + years of raping the second amendment as well as others including the first . Is EASY . FROG IN THE POT & Make them feel they won when they lost . If one has the patience they can control and or rule in any way they please
@LuthorvilleCA7 жыл бұрын
I disagree. I don't blame firearm manufacturers _at all_. You honestly think the firearms makers WANT to change countless features on their guns, just to be able to sell them in California? Of course not. That costs them money in R&D and retooling. They don't want to compromise or change. Costs them profits to do that. The blame rests in 2 groups of people: a.) Apathetic gun owners who fail to vote or raise their voices in protest against draconian gun laws. b.) The liberal media who are _constantly_ brainwashing the public with negative rhetoric about firearms. Those 2 groups of people allow politicians to restrict guns. The firearms manufacturers are NOT to blame at all. They are just attempting to comply with the asinine laws, so they don't lose sales.
