I like how it gives you independence and removes the mortage burden. Its built to what you like, not what someone else thinks you should like. Less financial obligations allow you to have a more flexible work schedule. That enables you to pursue other interests and creative endeavors, win-win. This is a home with a warm and inviting atmosphere, I really like it! thx for sharing. btw Im in Montreal too, so Id love to know where I could station one of these!?

That is friggen awesome! There are a lot of places where real estate is way too expensive (such as the cities in Canada) where this is a hugely good idea. While I enjoy my job as a heavy diesel truck mechanic, there is something in me that would enjoy disconnecting and living in a simpler and smaller way. I have a house but I really only use one room except for showering and cooking. I invited my Dad to live in one of my spare rooms and my sister comes up to visit from time to time and she camps in the 3rd bedroom while she's here. It's not a bad situation. I did get this place pretty cheap, at the bottom of the housing market in 2012 so I can't complain too much about my payments though.

Very tempted by such a project. I live in the Outaouais region and what's keeping me from going ahead are the frigid temperatures in winter. How do you handle your water lines when it is -30C outside? Do you get water from a line connected to a main house? This is the only thing that has kept me from going ahead with this
@PossibleMedia9 жыл бұрын
Carole Dufort Natalie has a tank inside (fitted with a small electric pump) that can be refilled in the winter and allows her to use her kitchen faucet normally. I don't remember what the capacity is, but that's her solution for freezing pipes in winter! :-)

+Carole Dufort Carole, I am in a 26' travel trailer. In the winter my water hose froze outside, so I got a heated hose and that helped, but the lines under the trailer froze. Insulated siding will be in order for next winter.

I want one of those I am older. I hate living in just one state. Sometimes I want to just get up and go somewhere else. So I like the mine thing not hotels or apartments. I have been looking at classic Vardo styles..... interesting. I could build a Gilded Ornate ornamental little Vardo like on the size of what you have. Not much on the outside but I do go overboard with gold paint and carving. I like you can just do what you want to do like Yoga and your house doesn't enslave you to cleaning all day long. You own the house it doesn't own you. I have lived in about 48 states for years. Traveling. I was driving behind a man. Ok preface: 0k I am psychic I pick up on what people are thinking. So anyway I was driving through Hayward near San Fran in CA and I was on the freeway. I looked to my left and the wall of a building was painted " If I am broke, why do I have to Work?" on it thought was funny. Then about a mile away I saw a car in front of me with one man driving he was distraught. Scared and way past depressed. He had a home a wife two kids. A pool some extra stuff for the kids his wife stayed at home with the kids. BUT he never got to spend time at the house he worked like 24/7 and he was about one pay check away from losing everything but he didn't tell his wife and children who had no clue. So he decided to get a life insurance policy and get in a car accident and kill himself. !!!!!!!0!!!!!!!! I thought shit I am driving behind a suicidal man who can't just tell his family they have to downsize and live on two pay checks........ It was one of the most eye opening things of my life. After that I thought...... just get a small house build it like I like (also a carpenter from my families business). And then just live to live not live to work. I don't know what happened to the poor man........ or his family but it was not good where they were at the time.

Unfortunately it's still illegal in Montreal, you are not allowed to live all year around in a rv and a tiny house on wheel is under the same code for now. I applaud her courage and hope she won't get any troubles. One other thing is that you need to have family /friends that are willing to let you hook up on their electricity and plumbing and backyard! Not a reality for everyone. What I am hoping for is a change in the law that will allow 500 square foot houses to be built.
@henrietta92069 жыл бұрын
+NoirVelours of course it is illegal....because Law Makers want a slice of the pie! What 'damage' can a nonthreatening, harmless human do - poop and pee few times a day, burn a few logs to keep warm... these actions do not require 30 years of jail time, locked up behind office cubicles, daily and frequently verbally abused. If it fine is small dwellings start springing...so long everyone is happy to keep to their 'one tiny house space' (of course we must not forget how things start to get crazy if one, even just ONE psycho start to say "oh, because I am important, I want TWO lots of tiny house space" etc... and fights ensues...that is where Governing Bodies/Police?Law Enforcers do need to step in) BUT SAY everyone sticks to a small dwelling, and do not attempt murder on their neighbors, then..honestly, this kind of living - IS VERY FINE! Therefore no need to enforce Laws, or impose fines...sentence small space dwellers.. etc. The ONLY REASON THEN..to impose a fine...is because Law Makers are greedy. Larger space means more years locked up behind a cubicle. More years means....more years of servitude, and guess who are the ones being served...!? Let me give a clue - Do you see any rich, entitled people washing their own laundry or raking land? Keeping people locked behind cubicles is necessary for these 'entitled' ones because....they simply cannot do their own laundry! then....they design intricate plans to enslave others... to lock the populations behind office hours and cubicles. Of course these actions are deemed 'illegal' - because they go against the ideals of money grubbers. Unfortunately, money grubbers are law makers. Touch your own heart, and search deep within it - what are the actions of 'small space dwellers' that constitutes to 'law breaking'. They poop? thats not law breaking. also, many use compost toilet, not as if poo is strewn on the streets. they park on, and damage grass? What is so wrong about parking on grass.? where else can humans live then...underwater? They use solar panels and not electricity from the Government (oops) i mean.....evil Mr Montgomery Burns- what!!?? why is turning the sun rays into electricity a crime!!? Think about it. Think deep. What makes an action 'illegal', or legal...it all depends on the rules makers, the law makers... sometimes the rules itself are the INHUMANE ones.

Sadly we don't use many of the concepts that are used in a tiny house in our regular homes. Energy efficiency is replaced with huge wasted spaces. Not keeping things in mind while allow the industry to dictate our homes.

most people forget to address the main problem with this , actually two : first the price is still too high , to build one of these and specially m ok you got money to star building now where do you put a house ? you need a place still, so if you cant have a normal house for sure you cannot buy land right ! so this "solution" is a false solution ! :( unfortunately !
