First song was "Bohemian Rhapsody", second was "Radio Ga Ga", then "Ay Oh", third was "Hammer to Fall", fourth "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", least but not last "We Will Rock You" and final song was "We Are the Champions". Queen's Live Aid concert was such an epic performance!

He said the title Hammer to fall before he began to sing this...crazy little thing called love was written by freddie, he told that its about 5-10mins. while taking a bath he thought of it then ask for a guitar after then headed to the studio to record..brian also added that it was almost finish when he came to finalize the guitar solo..check out the recent vids at queen official they just released..

@@tomas22432 That is true, Elvis had that very baritone voice, so he does have a lot of impersonators. I would say the impressive thing is that Freddie wrote a new song, he didn't do an Elvis cover, and people immediately think it is an Elvis song. In truth Freddie's voice is not that similar to Elvis, even on this song, it is more about the style.

They sometimes did some old timey Rock n'Roll stuff, though, live. For example, at Wembley '86, they did "Baby I don't care" by Elvis, "Hello Mary Lou" by Gene Pitney and "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard. In the early 70s, you could see them live doing "Big Spender" (Shirley Bassey) for example. Not unheard of, but more a thing to mix things up at a two hour show. I adore watching Live Aid over and over again, matter of fact I caught it 85 Live Aid of Queen when it first aired! Queen is my ALL time fave group they don't make bands like this anymore (everything is perfected in the studio) At least w/Queen what you heard was always LIVE! The thing about QUeen's quitars is that Brian Built that damned thing as a teenager with his dad, so he knows it inside and out (literally), then Deacy (on the base) made a thing they cally the "Deacy Amp) that ads a uniuqe sound to Brian's sound. Add to that Freddie and Brian pretty much managed to sing together with voice and Guiatar.... you get the Unique Queen sound

The Status Quo reference was because they were the opening act and were considered 'old' by some people in the 80's as they'd been on the music scene since the 60's. Freddie used to bend over and show his backside/bum/ass as a message to their old manager who apperently wasn't very good shall we say? It is nice that a lot of people were exposed to Queen because of the movie. But hopefully people know that there was a lot of fiction involved in the lead up to Live Aid. Queen had just finished their very successful Work's tour 5 weeks before Live Aid, were they played for over 400k people in Brazil. They were a well oiled machine, and they had more experience then most of the others when it comes to playing stadiums.

Freddie's doctor told him not to perform or risk permanent damage to his singing voice. But give Freddie a challenge, and he rises to the top. I've never seen another person or band command an audience like Freddie and Queen. I'm sure every band has a couple of songs everyone knows and sings along to, but you mentioned many bands having Freddie's control over an audience. I'd love to see other ftontmen/women who do a call and response, or clap and raise arms when Freddie says,"everbody"! Please show those concerts, I'd love to see it. Oh, and this was not a Queen audience. Queen was added to the bill after all the tickets had been sold. So it's actually more impressive what Freddie could do with an audience that didn't come to see Queen! Lovely reaction, thanks!

Although stadium concerts are common place now, and there have been other performers who have demonstrated a command of the audience, Queen was the first act to fill stadiums for their concerts and the first to encourage the audience to be part of the performance. NO ONE has ever come close to Freddie in his ability to engage the audience.

At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 34 years of active service, and 2 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears. My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise. I saw Queen live 6 times in all, they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.

Like I've said to other reactor's, Queen was a late edition to the program. You are seeing 70+ thousand there, another 90+ thousand in Philadelphia PLUS over 1.2 BILLION around the world! Watched this when I was 30 and it still gives me goosebumps every time I see it! Do yourself a favour and watch the documentaries about how this event came about. The day rock 'n roll brought the world together. Queen was a stadium band, every other group were concerned mostly with filling arenas.

For context: This concert was simulcast in the U.S., the U.K and all around the world. During Radio Gaga, 80,000-90,000 people in the U.K... and nearly the same number in the U.S. and countless more in stadiums and watching on TV around the world were ALL clapping in unison... AMAZING!

Name of the song as Freddie said before it starts Hammer to Fall. One of the few songs of Queen that became dated to a certain extent. It was about the cold war going hot. Nuclear war. But it has become fairly current again in recent times. Queen never did covers. Freddie in later years would solo the best known of which is Great Pretender. If you want to hear something very different look for Barcelona, which he wrote.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love (written in 1979) is a Queen song. According to Brian May, originally they would've recorded this in a regular Queen style, but Freddie Mercury wanted the song to be a tribute to the King (who died 2 years earlier), hence, the Elvis-Presley-Styled-Original-Queen song, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

Hammer To Fall is that song. It was the huge hit from their album at the time Queen Works. That beautiful guitar ,The Red Special, is still Brian’s main instrument today. He and his Dad built it when Brian was a teen. He’s been using it on their Rhapsody Tour. Amazing. Now watch the same set done by Queen and Adam Lambert done at the FireFight charity concert in Australia. Wonderful.

I was 12. I grew up listening to queen. When the news came Freddie and the band were getting back together for live aid was major news for us. 10 miles from the stadium we gathered around the tv in our front room waiting for queen. Turns out, the volume wasn’t needed! Amazing memories ❤️

Last month Australia held a Live Aid contest to help with the devastation left by the forest fires. Queen recreated this exact set for that concert. The crowd in the stadium was 72,000. Global audience was put as being at least 2 Billion When once asked in an interview what instrument he played Freddie famously replied "The audience darling!" Allegedly David Bowie who followed Queen said to Freddie "You bastard, how am I supposed to follow THAT"!

I remember watching a side by side comparison of this concert with the version shown in the film and Blu-ray extras. My favorite comments on that were the for 21 minutes in July of 1985, England was ruled by a different Queen, and someone else who said that the actor playing Brian May looked more like Brian May than Brian May does. Just a fun little tidbit.

Realize two things: This is considered the best concert performance in rock history, and seeing Queen live was 10 times better than watching a video.

Crazy little thing is 100% a queen song, Freddie wrote in less than a hour I believe. whilst in the bath. maybe a Elvis tribute, but definitely not a elvis song.

Brian May built his own guitars and returned to university some years after Freddie died and resumed his studies. He now has a Masters in Astrophysics. Have heard he does do some research in it as well!

Freddy write it in the bath tub in honor of Elvis. Brain built his guitar with his dad. Deacy built from scratch the deacy amp which is giving Brian’s guitar the sound you hear. Their sound was theirs and theirs alone

Important to note this was not a Queen crowd ,it was live aid with multiple bands ,but as you can see Freddy and Queen had the crowd in the palm of their hands . Amazing !!!
