Wow, I'm sure this show was amazing!!! Elijah Fox is one of my fave keyboardists!!! Thanks for posting Pat!!

I was at this show. Drums, bass, and percussion sounded great! Sax sounded like Kenny G and the keys played some uninteresting trite lines when it came time to play anything that wasn't previously rehearsed. Pretty sloppy on parts of songs. I'd be cool if Yussef brings back the older key players. Kamaal had great style and Charlie had great chops and interesting improvisation. Elijah just has the same vanilla pentatonic runs and arpeggios that are common in any IG keyboardist. No hate on him as a person; I just find him more of a sideman than an artist - even with his own music considered.

Kamaal is nowhere near Elijah Fox in terms of skill, that dude can't hang with Yussef, Mansur and Charlie. I think Fox was just off in this particular show, but I've seen a Yussef Dayes concert and he was the standout performer. Also, Kamaal has multiple rape allegations, not sure it'd be a wise idea for Yussef to be associated to him at this point in time

@@abcdefghijklmnopqrst9852 in terms of technical skill, I agree. I am talking about artistic style. Any keyboardist with chops can do what elijah does. It’s plastered throughout Instagram. His style and his choices are trite and predictable. I also agree that kamaal’s rape allegations should be resolved before anyone books him or spends any time/money with him. I’m for the music he contributed, but he should be condemned and punished if found guilty.

@@yellowintrel Agreed, Kamaal definitely the better artist out of the two, some of his albums post Yussef Kamaal are very good, though I will say I find his live performances lacking purely because he tends to be very repetitive on the keys (because he doesn't have the chops for it) I'd reserve my judgment about Elijah Fox's artistic abilities until I hear some of his solo works, he's limited in concerts with Yussef Dayes because he has his part to play and he can't go into business for himself. I also thought Mansur Brown was a limited player until he went solo and then I could really feel just how talented he was as an artist, some musicians just shine better as solo artists rather than in a band.
