So cool! I ended up here because my neighbor's black raspberries are migrating their way through the cracks in my privacy fence. It started last year and i was wondering how to get some growing in my yard. Take cuttings or..... Well i just went out today and two of them have touched the ground and are rooted in! Thx neighbor!

My school has black raspberries. I found them while teaching a hiking lesson to my first graders. They’re on the wood line. My principal is allowing me to do this tip layering to propagate the plants for my home. I’ve often thought about doing a small fruit orchard in the court yard which is enclosed and teach the kids where our fruits come from. Like many adults they think it all comes from the store.

I had no idea thats why my black raspberries were arching downward, and what a wonderful way to repot them. Just planted some from the nursery this late spring. Thank you so much for the instructions.

Just love people like you. Informative video expertly presented. Nice that you covered the different options, especially the one where you buried a container. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Greatly appreciated.

I have had a Jewel Black Raspberry plant that I bought from the local farmers market for 3 years now that I planted in a 16 inch plastic planter. It has never bared fruit but it's grown from being so tiny to a very tall plant with vines going everywhere. I finally got three 5 feet tall bamboo sticks and wrapped the vines around them. Had also started fertilizing with fish water which didn't give me the fruit I wanted, but the vines shot up fast. I started noticing a putrid odor coming from the pot. The mulch had mold under it. I removed the mulch and replanted into a 22 inch whiskey barrel, this time I decided to not mulch. Now I am using Jobe's Organics for fruit trees fertilizer sticks this summer. The roots have already filled the 22 inch pot. It's become so out of control I had to trim it down a bit. But it's still very long so I wrapped the vines around itself and the bamboo sticks. The tips of a few vines have found itself back into and around the planter. Still no fruit but long & tall healthy looking plant. Help! What am I doing wrong?

I have had a Jewel for 4 years now. 1st year nothing of course. 2nd year a hail storm shredded it when it was in flower, so no berries. 3rd year it flowered out and I got no berries again. I watched it through the flower and after it was done and all the flowers fell off, I got to thinking. I never saw any pollinators on it. 4th year this year, I got a bunch of flowers from a Home Depot dumpster, that's another story lol. Anyways I ended up surrounding it with flowers that were in bloom and this time there were bees all over it and I now have berries YAY!!! You might want to put a lot of blooming flowers around it next spring and see if that could solve your problem, it worked for me. This was the last year I was going to leave it. I thought about ripping it out last year but decided to give it one more year. Glad I did. Good luck to you I hope this works. Oh also I grow gold and red fall baring raspberries and I fertilize only in the early spring with Osmocote and my raspberry plants always have beautiful foliage and great berry production.

“Bared” fruit? Fruit tree fertilizer sticks? Are you kidding? Ignorance really isn’t bliss. Buy the booklet, “Berries, rasp and black”

Can I clip the rat tail tip and plant it in a container like you would do with a cutting or does it have to stay attached to the plant until it roots?

For tip layering, normally how long time it will root well and ready for cutting from mother plant?

Great tips, really! Do black raspberries yield as much as red raspberries for the size of the plant. Are black raspberries ever-bearing or do you just get one harvest from them?
