NOTE: when I film a video in portrait mode (the long way) it plays a little better on a mobile device as it will fill the screen.
My thoughts on what you should use when:
If you are trying to hide dark knots, then the makeup options are probably better than the tape options because you will want to put it ON the knots to blur or hide them. I have a lot of success using powder and that is always the first thing I try. If powder doesn't cover them enough, or if you need it to last longer than just one wear, then makeup like the scalp illusion or foundation/concealer should work. It can take time to get it to look natural, but like I said, I used foundation as my go-to for a LONG TIME before I got more comfortable and less self-conscious... and now powder works amazing for me.
If you are trying to hide bio hair under the wig or you don't want to use makeup, then some sort of tape is a good option. The first tape I used was what was recommended to me early on, but I don't think it is the best for this, especially not if you have light-colored skin. Look for one that is lighter and thinner (I linked an option that would work better below)... you can always save it for your first aid kit if it doesn't work. I really liked the paper tape A LOT and think it is worth trying!
PRODUCTS I SHOW:
► Spoolie: amzn.to/3IYfXD8
► makeup brush:
amzn.to/3Ni1GUg
► First aid tape I showed first: amzn.to/3oGjuiM
► Another scar tape I've seen people use that probably works better than the above as it is
thinner and lighter: amzn.to/3WSm29U
► Paper Tape: amzn.to/3qtQPOm
► Milano scalp illusion kit: amzn.to/3MRnxAQ (note I can't find the smaller one for sale).
This is quite expensive and a cheap concealer or foundation would work just as well. One
benefit is that it has lots of colors in case you have no idea what will work best for you.
The wigs I show in order:
1. Ellen Wille Lia II in Coffee Brown Rooted. Here is my review:

• TIP TUESDAY | Plucking...
2. A one-of-a-kind HH wig from StackedHair.

3. Jon Renau Carrie in Salted Caramel. I haven't done a full review, but here
is a video I did: • Wig/Hair of the day! J...

The medical tape is specifically made not to stick to hair, so it has a painless removal. Thank you for your tips, but especially for your compassion and kindness, two things the world is, sadly, lacking.

I have a left over mineral powder concealer I don´t use on my faces because I found a better match in another product. This concealer is amazing to put on the part. It is a double win since I would have to throw it away otherwise.

Thanks, Denise! Great information. The scar tape is my “go to” for wigs with heavy/dark knotting at the part line. I use AWD Medical Silicone Gel Scar Dressing. It comes with 5 strips of tape, which I cut to size. Being very fair complected, this is one brand that complements my skin tone. Some of the other brands of scar tape that I’ve tried were either too dark, or, had an orange cast to them, when compared to my skin tone. If anyone else has run into the same issues, AWD Medical Silicone Gel Scar Dressing strips may be worth a try.

If you snip a little V at the front end of the scar tape, the front edge is less obvious

Yes, I use scar tape and cut the end with two small "v"'s, like a pinking shear. It breaks the continuity of the straight line. Much less visible.

Very good video, thanks Denise. I have trouble with the end of the scar tape as well, it's so annoying. I've tried cutting the scar tape woth pinking shears so the little jagged end blends better with the lace, it helps a bit, but I can still see the end of it through the lace. That paper tape looks interesting but as my head sweats constantly, it'd probably slide ride off.

I bought my first wig, Vanity by Ellen Wille. It has a double monofilament which is why I purchased it. I am not understanding why the knots show thru at the part. I researched before I chose a wig and I thought monofilament meant hand tied. I'm trying to learn as much as possible since I have just started my journey. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thank you for your helpful information. My question is: What do you do with wigs like those from Noriko that really have no part line? I don’t do anything, but should I?
@heywigsister
@heywigsister Жыл бұрын
There isn't much you can do with them.... I have heard people put powder or foundation on them to simulate a part, but I have never been able to make it look natural so I just leave it... I often wear headbands with basic cap wigs which makes them look really natural in my opinion.

Hi Denise have u ever tried a knot melting or wax product? I thought u did but I haven’t found that video. Thank u

Hi! No, I haven't tried anything like that, although I do have a spray by Ebin that is supposed to help hide the knots, the one wig I tried it on it didn't really work but since it was my first time I am going to try again. It is this one: amzn.to/3CfOYz4

Great ideas but what I'm really self conscious about is the cast on the lace front that lies on your forehead. When I'm in the sun, that is when its most obvious and makes me anxious. Do you have any solutions to this please.

How to cover the bio hair at the ears? My bio hair is dark and my wig is blonde.
@heywigsister
@heywigsister Жыл бұрын
Hi! I can do a video about this! Basically you will either have to find a root touch up powder that could make your bio hair look light enough to blend, or add some rooting to your wig so that it somewhat matches your bio hair.... that's why I always choose rooted wigs, because when my bio hair shows it just looks like part of the rooting.

@heywigsister Newbie here, with hair loss, contemplating wearing a wig in order to feel whole again... Would you please explain what you mean by "rooted"? Just recently discovered your channel. Thank you for all the helpful tips and the love you express for all wig wearers!
@mercedesbee6582
@mercedesbee6582 5 ай бұрын
@@cheryldavis8776Rooted means the root of the hair is dark and the rest of the hair is lighter. It makes it look as if you colored your hair and it grew, so now you have roots.
