I saw this in your curriculum choices and bought it. Best decision of the year. This is our first year homeschooling and all 5 of my kids are awful in English. We are 5 weeks in and they can actually identify a noun as well as other things! They couldn't do that 5 weeks ago. The sad part is they were top of the class in public school.

Honestly, this is the best grammar curriculum review I have seen yet! Thank you for not only showing us the INTERIOR pages, but also for showing us how the books are to be used. Your opinions on the curriculum's strengths and its compatibility with IEW are also very helpful. Subscribing to your channel now!

Darn, wish I had known this before I ordered what I did! I bought English From the Roots up (just vocabulary) and it makes zero sense to me. IEW is something we're all ready familiar with and this would be vocabulary and grammar in one. I think I'm still going to get it, at least it's not very expensive. Thank you!!

This was awesome! We've been using IEW writing, but I had not yet gotten started on the Grammar; busyness kept me procrastinating the climb up the learning curve (no matter how small). Your review has saved me a bunch of "figure it out" time; we'll be starting tomorrow!

I'm so excited to start this with my 3 kiddos. We are going to start this summer. This will be the only book work they will do in the summer. Then, we will continue on in the school year. I plan do all the levels, just year after year.

Have you posted an updated review on Fix It Grammar yet (you mentioned you may do that in your video (ie: how test scores look, etc))? Could you share the link if you have? I'd love to hear your thoughts as you've gotten further in the program! I have the books -- we're starting them today. We started IEW Writing in the fall.

If a child is new to grammar is it ok to start in the Robinhood book. Or, is it better to start in the Nose Tree? I guess I'm asking if they go in order? Thanks!

Brave writer has one project per month (paragraph) but it has day to day assignments/activities each week. So they will work on the paragraph a little at a time each week, reading poetry, discussions, hands on activities.

Hi, I am new to this curriculum. Not to homeschooling but to IEW. I noticed the video was 3 yrs old. So I was just wondering if you ended up liking the curriculum fix it! Grammar. Did it end up working well? Just curious as I am thinking of buying it. I like the fact they can learn about nouns and pronouns and adjectives and such while also learning sentences and paragraphs structure.

Thanks for this review!! I was leaning towards this or G.U.M. drops. I love that this has vocab built in the program as well. My 11 yr old and 13 yr old just finished Logic of English and it seems this will be perfect to use not that we are done with it. Going to use the placement test to see where my kids fall. You wouldn't consider this good for Writing as well would you? I know it has a little writing but do I assume it doesn't have enough to consider it Writing as well.

I’m going to homeschool my 8th grader and am considering adding these books to our curriculum. Do you recommend starting with Level 1 for an 8th grader? Also you mentioned in your video “testing”. Do tests come with these materials or do you supplement other type of Grammar tests to track progress? I’m new to homeschooling, thank you in advance for your thoughts!

Level 1 might be too easy for an 8th grader, but if you've never done IEW Fix It before you might want ask them what they recommend for an older student.

@erica_arndt
@erica_arndt 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, if you've used IEW before it will be easier to do the higher level books. I would give them a try and if your kids are struggling go down a book or 2. Each book contains instructions so they should be able to do them if they've had proper English classes already.

Thank you for taking the time to inform us about this program. After using it for some time, do you feel it's a full grammar program or did you find it needed a supplement to go with it? Thank you for taking the time to respond back:)

I feel like it's fine on it's own, we originally supplemented with vocabulary, but we eventually stopped because both the IEW writing and Fix It! Grammar have vocal and I think it's fine on its own.

Hi Erica! Thanks for this review! I have been using this with my 4th and 7th grader and it has been going well. The only thing I don't fully understand is how to grade it as there is not really a rubric for grading. How do you grade it? Thanks!
@erica_arndt
@erica_arndt 8 жыл бұрын
Grading for Fix It! Can be difficult. They encourage you not to grade the sentences they mark up, and if you have to grade something they suggest grading the final write up they do in their notebooks. I tend to grade the sentences because I want them to try and find everything. If they get 100, they get a prize so they have incentive to do well LOL!

How did you find doing it with younger kids and older kids at the same time? My youngest is 8 and my oldest I wanted to do it with is 13 but she is very hesitant to do the same grammar programme as her little brother. Do you skip through lessons quicker with your older ones or do they go the same pace as the youngest? Thank you
@erica_arndt
@erica_arndt Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes you can go faster if you want but we didn't, we just did one lesson per day. It works out with our schedule to get through one book per year. If your older student wants something different, you can always choose a different book for her to go through so she feels like she's doing something more challenging.

Hi, You need the student workbook and the teacher workbook for this curriculum in my opinion. The kids edit the sentences, and I suppose you could write them out each day for your kids but that would be kind of a hassle.

I'm pretty sure if you buy the teacher's manual it comes with a free download for the student workbook. So you can always print it off yourself rather than buying the pre-printed, pre-bound one.

I just started homeschooling my 1st grader. She has moderate autism and is delayed in certain areas. Grammar is a subject that is tough to teach. Do you know of any curriculum I could use? Thank you
@erica_arndt
@erica_arndt 8 жыл бұрын
I would go for something that is more hands-on for her. All About Spelling isn't a grammar curriculum but does have a lot of hands-on phonics practice that might help her out. You might also look at First Language Lessons. It's not a worksheet based curriculum, it's more of a reading/discussion type curriculum. I also have a community you can post this question to I'm sure others are in your situation and might be able to help more! community.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/

Is Fix It Grammar totally autonomous to the IEW SWI? I'm not starting SWI until 4th grade (next year), but I wanted to maybe start Fix It now, in 3rd grade, in order to avoid starting two new programs in the same year - but, I've been worried that Fix It will be confusing without the previous knowledge of the IEW SWI program. So, any who, any advice is helpful! :) Thanks!
