I was over 40 when I learned what Juneteenth was also. I had several grandchildren &wanted them to know what the day was about. While planning this celebration, I realized that Blacks were not familiar, but nearly every White person I mentioned it to knew all about Juneteenth. I now have even more grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. I supply the meats, parents bring a side dish to pass and the children have a Bake-off making desserts. Awards and ribbons are given to all entries. We enjoyed a Bid Whist tournament with trophies. Team building contests, like racing to assemble a100 piece puzzle, a scavenger hunt. No one that attended will ever forget Juneteenth. There was a speaker from our local African American Museum. I found a list of many, many Black inventors that I put inside gift bags to take home. Have not had a Juneteenth celebration in several years, but this year I definitely will. There have been several more grands and great grands since the last celebration that should learn about this history. Thanks so much for these presentations. I will be sharing it.

What is there to celebrate? Shouldn't it be a day of remembrance? Maybe it's just me but I just see it being ass backwards to even make it into a holiday.

If you happen to click on the closed captioning "link/ikon' above, you will be horrified by the nonsensical verbiage displayed. It would be a tragedy, I think, to offer such a transcript to hearing-impaired individuals. PAY A HUMAN to do such work, do not trust the computer!!! Terrible quality...

Texans have celebrated juneteenth for over a 100 years. If you’re ignorant, lacking knowledge, then just say that.
