I don't know how this channel really works - maybe donate the ad revenues - but ... if you look at the number of views (2M), and the money paid (200$), it's really weird to see this as an act of love and generosity. By producing this video they earned about 2-4k US-$ and spent about 200$ + maybe 200$ of time and other costs producing this video? So is this business or "love"? Helping other people is great, but profiting with more than 1600$ doing this, seems weird...

As a Waiter: You have no idea how much something like that means. I work in Seattle now thankfully. Where they can't do that whole cut wage thing assuming tips will make up for it. But I started out in Boise Idaho making 3.75 an hour. Stupidest law in the world: You work five times as hard as a Cashier EVER would and because of that law that allows tips to be considered your wage, you end up making on average 8-12 dollars an hour, because people in those regions also have less money and tip far less. I knew a Jimmy John's Delivery driver who made more than me because they paid him 7.25 and he got tips but didn't have to report them because he wasn't registered as a tipped employee. Which is quite frankly, idiotic. That 200 dollars might have allowed her to buy her kid good food and new clothing.

I've been a server at three different restaurants in the U.S. and YES, the wage is $2.13 an hour. It's a technical loophole because they figure you'll make triple minimum wage in tips if you "do a good enough job," but that's not how it works. You can be the nicest, fastest, most skilled server in the business and you can still get nothing. People will leave small tips or no tips for no discernible reason, and it's not like you can chase them out the door and demand to know why. Living on minimum wage in this country is difficult, but living on a server's wage is literally impossible. When I worked at a local diner the traffic was so varied it was insane. Some nights I would bring home $100.00+ in tips...and some nights I would barely make $30.00.

Hey everyone, i'm a (relatively lol) poor college kid who is blessed with a family. My father has money, so although I don't have much to my name, I never have to worry about financial issues. I do work, and because I attend a large school, I see many homeless people on campus. Some of them are very polite to me, others scowl. While I do have my concerns about giving back to shady individuals, I also value what being selfless stands for, and its a reminder to me to stay humble and grateful, to work hard and think of others. I was wondering if anyone had some advice or things such as how to identify those who really need help as opposed to those who may be trying to dupe people? That and any kind of other advise is welcome. Thank you!
@phlemphlam5749 жыл бұрын
Dee Jay That was inspirational! My brother and I can totally relate to what you are talking about. It's sad when we can't determine on who sincerely needs the help and the ones that dupe people. We've questioned it as my brother a Veteran volunteers his time for organizations such as 'Toys for Tots' and "The Angel Tree". But we grew up extremely poor so in the end we just give no matter our discrepancy because it's the children who eventually pay the price if we don't. Thanks for sharing and God bless!

The american system were you can legally pay somebody $2 an hour is floored, people not paying tips shouldn't be the ones who are seen as the bad people, the owner of the restaurant should be the person who is responsible to pay there staff properly so customers can enjoy their meal for the price specified instead of the actual price including tip, this is a problem the government has created by not having a minimum wage which would require no tip for the waiter/waitress to earn enough. I'm from the UK and there is a minimum wage and if you don't tip it's not really frowned upon.

Tjs Gaming I know, and I don't think that's right but in Canada the minimum wage is something like 10-12 dollars and hour so you get paid at least that much.
@almond12510 жыл бұрын
Sarah S There is minimum wage but not for waiters. Waiters income comes from their tips so they are not paid much. Thats how its always been.

@zebry1311 жыл бұрын
Minimum wage in most places in America is around 7 or 8 dollars, I think. However, there's a special exception for waiters and waitresses because their types could make up that minimum wage.
@timinator85511 жыл бұрын
But this is why you do the job, to get 8 $ an hour and recieve some extra money from tipping this should be handeled as a gift i think :/

Being a waitress/waiter in general doesn't pay well. The most you'll ever get is $5. They're dependent on what they get in tips. Sometimes they could get $10 a night or $50 (if you do the dinner hour). It's not bad if the customers tip. I used to be a waitress. You smile and treat the customers with respect...and then they don't tip you and you become upset because you work hard. Always tip...unless the waiter/waitress is being a prick.

That really sucks for them and she has 2 kids too,I feel pretty bad :(
@WatersTainted11 жыл бұрын
***** At the high end restaurants in NY and other popular cities, $5. My friend works at a high class restaurant, he gets $5 an hour plus tips. It's rare that you would ever get that much...but it happens and I wanted to be as accurate as possible, thus why I said "The MOST you'll ever get."

@adm181910 жыл бұрын
They could give, for example, only $10... it would be enough to post online for views and subs, but, the way in which the action was made, imho, shows that they really tip her to be nice, although they get obtained some advantage. That´s a good example: Turning visible people who normally are invisible!!! :-)

***** Federal minimum wage is $7.25, but for non-tipped employees. However, DOL states that for tipped employees, the minimum wage cannot be less than $2.13/hr. Can they offer more? Sure. Although, as you can see, that isn't always the case. From my past employers, and friends currently in the food service, it is still around the federal minimum. Also, I know it may be $7.45 for the state you reside in, and the employee IS entitled to the higher of the two. That is, when the state law differs from the federal, in the situation of minimum wage earning. Also, life is fair - depends on how you look at it.

I've paid it forward many times. It feels great! My son is a server at a very elite restaurant in Chicago. He makes $3.45 per hour. When he worked in Oklahoma He made $2.15 per hour and has to pay taxes for what is estimated He should make during his shift. Not what He actually makes. He Usually works lunches. People tip the worst at lunch & are grumpier at that time. There a some gracious tippers, even at lunch. Soon he'll work dinner hours. That is the much more desired shift.
