Hey - personally I don't agree with rehashing scenes from published works. I think it's best to use original material that is created specifically for the purpose of your reel!

Hi would you recommend recording monologues to put in the showreel? I have done amateur productions so have some material but I'm worried I don't have enough. Also would you include special skills like accents and instruments?

I would say don't do monologues. They're a relic from the theatre, works in that setting but not on a screen because inherent in the concept of a monologue is fakeness - we can see you're talking to no-one. As for different accents, sometimes it works. But your goal on the first reel shouldn't be versatility, it should be about showing us who you are - how you look, sound, react. Simple is best!
