Thanks, man! I like the simple setup; you make your images look like a million dollars. Less is more.

Thanks for the perspective and the tips! I think I will change lights. Having one that I can tie to and photo with seem like a great idea

Yeah I’ve really enjoyed this one by Taotronics. Just puts off a little bit of heat is the only con. Recently I just upgraded to a different light that doesn’t seem to get hot

I’m realizing the importance of having the proper lens.

Great job Svend, the only thing I would add is the use of a cheap light box will save the issue with shadows. That 105mm is a great lens!

Thanks Lindsay. Yeah I’ve found this is just a lot quicker when I don’t have space for the light and the pain of setting it up and down each time (20 seconds lol). I have a really nice light box for work that is amazing, but takes up way to much room and stays at work

@@Svenddiesel Fair play buddy I have mine up permanently, I know what you mean about setting it up all the time.

Hello svend, I use a light box for take photos of my flies. It’s very cheap or you can do it yourself. The rest the same, thanks for sharing!
@Svenddiesel2 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve used light boxes but found the less expensive ones don’t really do a much better job than this. The expensive light box I have for work just is a pain to store conveniently or take up and put down compared to this method shown here. But I do like the boxes as well for larger objects

Good stuff! Well I know you're going to say you just want to take 20 seconds for a couple of quick shots and not wanting to play around with photoshop. But here is the one thing that could be great for your setup and space. Since your computer is right there with screens, I feel like tethering your DSLR using capture one or lightroom would be something to test. You can literally control the camera from your computer, take the photo (wireless mouse would help since you're not using a white box) Then again it all depends how hardcore you want to go but technically it only cost a long USB cable and software license.

That’s true and I have the Nikon software to do it. The video was direct for most users that don’t have the setup I have. However I rarely tether it to my computer since I’ve had such good luck simply inserting the sd card.

Could you please do a video on your fly tying setup
@Svenddiesel2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what I’m tying I just get out what I need and have so go to tools that I keep handy

Do you use the same camera for videos and how do you shoot the videos?
@Svenddiesel2 жыл бұрын
No I don’t. This slr can only shoot 10 minutes in 1080, so I use a z7 for videos with a 50 mm lens

Thank you for the tips, Svenddiesel. How about some recommendations for how you capture your fly tying sessions. Our Local TU Chapter is conducting a Fly Tying 101 Course and we would like to create a members only KZbin Channel for our participants.

It’s on my list to do. Check out fishing the ozarks as he did a 3 part series on how a lot of tyers film tying their flies

Thanks Svend this was very helpful! I dont have a Dslr, only one of the best phone/cameras you can buy and I'd be curious to see what you could do with a phone. I'm going to try and apply this to my phone cuz my photos suck.. Haha "maybe I need a real camera"😂Take care dude
@Svenddiesel2 жыл бұрын
You can get great photos with camera phones and I know the new iPhone 13 has a macro option depending on which model you get. Still use a tripod and timed delay shutter release or some of the Tri pods come with a blue tooth shutter button so you aren’t pushing or tapping the phone
@guymuto40542 жыл бұрын
No cable release? No remote shutter release? Only shutter delay? Macbeth color checker?
@Svenddiesel2 жыл бұрын
You are welcome to use all of the above. Just extra stuff that I don’t think necessary for keeping it basic
