1st time I "flocked" I used embossing powder then painted it the color I wanted and after I realized it had a great texture for a sprayed in bed liner for a truck.

I never thought about painting color over it. I only tried the flat to try and dull down the glitter. Nice tip!

Thanks for sharing video & showing side by side comparison with Flocking. Newbie here & was looking for best look on 60s muscle/classic cars, now subscribed. Take care /Rosemary
@JHartModelworks6 ай бұрын
Glad it was helpful. Honestly I tend to use flocking for older cars 60's and 70's muscle for instance, and use the embossing powder for more modern cars.

I use embossing powder exclusively. I personally allow the owner to sit on the liquid for a few hours without touching it. I love the results.

Very good info Terry. Thanks. I didn't wait that long, maybe that's why I hade issues with it sticking.

Yep, I went to three stores looking for a tea strainer only to find out it was worthless for the embossing powder. Lol. Good video. I will try the clear coat method next time I do carpet.

Thanks for watching! I found over time the semi gloss clear didn't hold up as well with handling and I had to go back in later and touch up. Not sure why. It works great with flocking which is what I normally use. Next time I try it I think I'll try watered down Elmers, or enamel paints to see what the difference might be. Or maybe my semi gloss clear is just going off? Have a good one!
@CovertOperation132 жыл бұрын
@@JHartModelworks Good to know, maybe I'll stick with Elmers glue for now.

Looks good. I have a couple colors I got from Hobby Lobby but unless you wanted sparkles they were limited.
@JHartModelworks Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's my big issue with embossing powder. It's all sparkle metallics. I sprayed mine with flat clear to dull it down which helped.
@wudbcarmodeller27132 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial! I wonder what would happen if you used white glue and painted it after drying with your chosen acrylic color
@JHartModelworks2 жыл бұрын
Hey Geoff! Yeah, that's been mentioned. I definitely want to try white glue next time, I'm not super happy with how the semi gloss clear worked out. And I hadn't even though of painting color over it. It's a really good idea.
@petesmodelcarcustoms5842 жыл бұрын
Why not mix the acrylic colour in with the white glue then use
@JHartModelworks2 жыл бұрын
@@petesmodelcarcustoms584 I think the point of spraying the acrylic color after is to get the color you want on top of the material. So you could just dump black embossing powder or what have you then paint it tan or green or whatever. if you mix color into the glue it will only color the surface under the powder.

It looks like embossing powder followed by an over coat spray would work good to re-texture the under carriage after removing the mfg marks that are on a lot of kits.
@JHartModelworks Жыл бұрын
That is an awesome idea!

I bought some actual undercoating spray from my local Menards store for the undercoating on the bottom. Probably could use it for pick up truck bed liners as well.

To me the flocking looks more like shag carpeting in 1:24-1:25 scale. Might be better in 1:12 scale? I have yet to use this embossing powder. But since the flocking doesn't have the sparkles, I wonder if you put the flocking in a coffee grinder and grind it into a powder, if it would be the same as this embossing powder...without the sparkles?
@JHartModelworks8 ай бұрын
I tend to use the embossing powder on more modern cars, and to get around the sparkle, i hit it with some flat clear, or sometimes even a light mist coat of paint. I tend to use flocking in older cars. It is a little out of scale, but sometimes that's OK it's so dark in most interiors, you won't notice the carpet if it isn't exaggerated a little. The coffee grinder idea is a really good idea, I'll have to get one of those small grinders and test it out (i wouldn't want a flocking surprise in my coffee). Thanks for the great idea!
@MrMajikman18 ай бұрын
@@JHartModelworks Yes, I'm also going to try it out. I have a coffee grinder specifically for grinding modeling materials into more powdery forms, it has worked great in the past. But of course, don't try it in your daily grinder...flock no!😂
@davidgroce23532 жыл бұрын
Do you think this would work for a convertible top?
@JHartModelworks2 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I think it might be too grainy? worth a try. If you use something like elmers glue it should be fairly easy to get off if it goes awry. In the past for a vinyl roof I've suggested spraying Zero Paints textured paint, spray one coat then back way off and spray a second to get more texture. then after it dries very gently sand with 4000 or 6000 to flatten the texture slightly. For a cloth Drop top I've always just painted and then sprayed with ts-80 flat clear. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel.
