(pulling mods out mid save is a recipe for disaster) unless just textures etc. as you said, Big thanks to all you've done for the modding community! 🕺❤🔥

Mod it. Break it. Do a clean install. Mod it again. This was my first experience of modding. And my second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth too. Alas, I had modding fever, and was lost. My most recent install, I decided to not add more mods for at least 6 months. Then I saw a video of Ryn's standing stones - now I also have the complete series, and a few other mods I 'found' along the way. I haven't seen Alduin for years. But i love my game.

I can almost guarantee that a year ago, I would've scoffed at the idea of modding being in itself fun. Up until this recent run at New Vegas it was more a chore. Now? I get it. I get the puzzle aspect. I get the mad scientist level of experimentation. Now if I just merge -enough- to get back under 255... Seriously though; your vids have become both a treasure trove of knowledge and just...reassuring. I really appreciate the time you put into them and cannot wait to see you get a chance to tackle some of the more recent developments that popped up with the reinterest in Fallout from the TV series. Keep doing good work, man.

Excellent guide. Love this channel. I would like to add one more tip: Check reviews and read the comments on the mod page before you download ANY mod. Some mod authors disable a bugs section and people will post bugs and problems with a mod in the comments. Really can't stress the value of patience. And this goes even with mods you don't expect to make huge changes like that. So many times I've modded Skyrim and just slapped 12 mods together that don't seem to interact with each other only to break a 250 modlist and take hours or days to figure out exactly which combination is causing the issue.

Great video man. Thanks a lot for sharing this content! Just to elaborate a bit on what you said in the video - the reason modders often avoid `Program Files` is due to UAC (User Account Control). This mechanism limits the ability to modify anything under the `Program Files` directory; sub-directories, files, etc. Since mods change files, there might be permission issues when the mod tries to do that under `Program Files`, thus crashing the game. Same applies to mod management tools like NMM, Mod Organizer, etc.
@gamerpoets10 ай бұрын
I have older videos that talk very indepth about UAC.. and then people complain that I talk too much about things they "don't need" lol. I've learned over the years to save myself the headache and just cover what's needed and keep things basic.

Hi GamerPoets, out of all videos regarding Skyrim modding out there, I found yours to be the best. I was wondering, do you have a video for people who have already installed MO2 and are planning on using it for other games? I'm currently looking into modding Starfield but am a bit worried about causing conflicts with Skyrim (although I followed your video step by step). From my understanding, you showed us how to set up Skyrim as a portable instance of MO2, so I'd have to do the same for Starfield and it would avoid any conflicts between the two, right? Thanks again for all your content. I'm sure without it, many wouldn't have dared modding their games in the first place. :)

Do you have a dedicated video about MO2's left and right panes? I've been modding for years, and following your videos for a very good reason obviously, but I keep trying to understand the rule of thumb for the left hand "install order" (ty, btw, for an explanation of the overwrite folder. that was a great video)
@gamerpoets Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure I do. The summary is: Left is asset load order (meshes, textures, animations). And anything that can be completely replaced by another file Right is plug-in load order (esps, esms, so forth) .
@macelharen Жыл бұрын
@@gamerpoets
@macelharen Жыл бұрын
@@gamerpoets okay, followup: just an easy example to what you gave - FNIS as being 'animations' - i know the output needs to be left in it's own post-overwrite folder. But, is it an "animations" per se or does it need to be high on the install list (aka low priority) and the actual animations it enable to be higher priority? i personally used to put it near the bottom next to the output folder. But, recently i've been taking the advice of people that say it's best placed in the install order right before skyUI. way i figure, as long as mo2 doesn't show any plus or minus in the conflicts the install order doesn't matter worth squat...although i could be wrong about that (i mean, mo2 isn't omniscient, right?)
@macelharen Жыл бұрын
@@gamerpoets no, wait. you didn't answer my question. probably because i failed to word it exactly: why is the install order different than the load order, in the sense of having one install after another? it's different to convey a layman's confusion since a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. i guess if i take pains to make it clearer, i'd say instead, "is left pain all about being careful about overwriting FILES, whereas right pane is all about being careful about...err...'conflicts' (aka what smashed/bashed patch is designed to prevent)?"
@macelharen Жыл бұрын
@@gamerpoets followup: i guess the reason i'm asking further questions is because i'm trying to form two different concepts to use alternately when i'm thinking about adjusting install/load order in MO2. it would be easier if i didn't have freaking 328 mods in my left pane and 236 in my right. lol
