Thanks for the info. came here to find other PT move i wasn't aware of. About 11 years ago in my early 30s I had a bad shoulder dislocation from trail biking at a local lake, I was going slightly downhill and hit a patch of sandy dirt that caused me to lose control. I went endo over the handlebars and landed on the backside of my left shoulder when I hit the ground eventually and slid a good 20 feet LoL. Was pretty much the worst pain I ever felt in my life. Got carted off in an ambulance and all that. I don't know if dislocations are categorized in terms of "severity" but i can tell you the doctor said it was pretty bad. Doctors set the shoulder but I was never re x-rayed in a follow-up. It wasn't until about a year later when my shoulder pain was really bugging me and wasn't getting better that I got examined again and was told about the labrum tear. Its so strange considering from what I understand a shoulder dislocation ALMOST always causes a tear but they never followed up about it originally. It was me being progressive about the situation. After some xrays and MRIs I got the diagnosis and eventually had ortho surgery in 2014. I had some damage to the bone and a few other things. Everything was successful but ever since that accident things just haven't been the same. I did all my PT, progressed well, got a lot of my mobility back and strength and have my At-home PT moves i can do anytime i need. Now some 10/11 years later and Im having to do PT again because that arm just always fatigues out so quickly when working out. (I workout 5 days a week) . Wakes me up at night. The heating pad is one of my best friends during sleep lol. Goes down into my bicep and forearm so we're working to re-strengthening all those little muscles as much as possible. (Unfortunately I also developed strong chronic pain in my back but that's a whole other story) always try to avoid a dislocation at all Costs, Kids . 🙃

Hey Klaus! I can't really give specific recommendations based on not being able to assess you, but many people do rehab and continue to workout after a SLAP lesion. It all depends on your symptoms and ability to rehab the shoulder to work back to symptom free movement. The research shows that people can get back to symptom free or minimal symptom movement and exercise but a lot depends on the severity of the injury and the exercise you are looking to get back to!

I’ve had a sneaky suspicion that I did some damage ten years ago when I was really getting into CrossFit in my early 40s. I did a ton of heavy overheads and pull-ups. My coach noticed that when I did snatches that my right shoulder was sunken while the left was in a great position. Fast forward to early 2023 and things shifted. My arm started to feel dead. Clicking and popping can be felt and heard while swimming underwater. I got an ultrasound and X-ray and they said it’s a possible labrum tear and cyst. The pain was incredibly high. I got a cortisone shot and the pain subsided until around five months later where I couldn’t tolerate the pain. I focused on it being a cyst that was building up a lot of pressure against a nerve causing the dead sensations in my arm, neck and labrum area. Finally went to ER to see if I could get an MRI and the orthopaedic surgeon on call said no MRI was needed. He said that there was a lot going on in my shoulder from arthritis, a labral tear, and possible cyst and that surgery would be needed. I focused on the pain relief rather than doing some PT. Whenever I started to roll on a foam roller the pain was far less which lead me to believe that maybe PT and NSAIDs would be a bette route. So this is where I am today. Possible surgery or do more PT and avoid surgery. Whenever I stand up the arm feels heavy and the nerve gets pinched and the arm starts to feel heavy. Don’t know if I should get surgery or not.

I did hair for over 20 years. I’m pretty sure I have torn my labrum and probably in other areas too over the last several years. I have stength. But there’s constant aching and the stability is what’s really starting to be obvious. I can’t hold my arm up to do makeup or eat without shaking in my right arm. I’m doing pt twice a week: the overall pain is better but it’s like anything I do just kinda backtracks me. I have pain again and the weakness is not changing. It’s only been like 3 weeks but I was hoping I’d see some changes with the shaking. Theres not been an MRI done yet and I really was hoping I could heal naturally. So now I’m anxious for what is next. I’m a single mom of 2 kids. My daughter is nonverbal autistic and requires a lot more help than a typical 10 year old. I have to help bathe her and wash her hair and put her clothes on. It’s about like having a 5 year old. She tugs on me constantly now. I’m trying to figure out how to promote healing given my circumstances. She does go to her dads so I get some breaks but when my kids are home there’s just so much I have to keep up with.

Hello Jen, thanks for the useful video! I have what is probably some degree of labrum tear/damage, I already went to the doctor and did PT, my therapist gave me a series of exercises and tips to keep "from here on", but no further therapy is needed at the moment. I have been doing some research on my own and trying to recover as good as possible, and my question for you is the following: I mostly feel pain in the LOWER part of my shoulder. I feel it somewhere around my rear delt and just where my tricep starts, near the armpit. It hurts when I do a W pose with my arms, or at the very END range of an overhead pressing motion (like the last 2 inches). If I reach down to grab something from the ground (like hugging and lifting my cat), the same pain appears. Same thing if I try to flex my bicep, I can't really squeeze it because it's painful. Do you think this is still a slap or a bankart tear? Holding my arm down and trying to bicep-curl against it, it's not realy painful. Doing pushups is possible, while maybe not completely natural shoulder wise. But anything that makes me stretch and/or flare out my arms too much, ugh, very painful. I couldn't even dream of doing a pullup, lateral raises, bench press or overhead press at this moment.

Hard for me to give exact recommendations, but it does sound like you are still having some referral symptoms from the injury you had. You could benefit from doing a lot of chest opening mobility, upper back extension and rotation, and shoulder blade stability. If we have good shoulder blade stability and movement, as well as upper back mobility, this can really help support the shoulder!
@ZEBASS

Great info! If you have a bone spur, is it more harm than help if you’re doing these repetitive exercises? I have a diminutive labrum with an underlying bone spur, and I’m just hesitant to do PT if the bone spur will just keep cutting into the labrum the more I use it. Or maybe I misunderstand bone spurs 😂🤷‍♀️
@docjenfit
@docjenfit Жыл бұрын
Hi Hayley! It's hard to say without knowing more or being able to assess you more closely how much the bone spur might be impacting your shoulder labrum. It can always be beneficial to do exercises for chest opening and mobility, upper back mobility, and shoulder blade movement and stability exercises. These will help you maximize any space you have available by using proper movement patterns and stabilized shoulder blade movement.

I have bone spur and torn labrum and slap tear and my arm pops so loud on bench press it's :( I'm gonna get MRI and see if I have torn rotator cuff or that I have small biceps tear as well.. but what they left out is when you tear labrum is indicative with a ganglion cyst and I have one and its causing neuropathy to my Lat muscle... I need arthroscopic to fix labrum and get bone spur gone and possibly bicep tendinopathy fixing but I'm 50+ and they don't want to fix torn rotator or biceps tendon because they will be STIFF then... They'll opt for rehab

two yrs ago i had a pretty bad shoulder dislocation and since then ive dislocated it more from lifting, rock climbing etc.. its at a point where if i swing my shoulder gets weak and it feels its goign to come out with pain. I got a MRI but I dont really know how concerning it is or how many issues i have going on. a lot of my friends who are in the medical field say i prob need surgery. (I also did PT before.. went rock climbing and it happened again.. i basically can't put my entire weight on one shoulder. if i do it just becomes seriously weak and pops out. my friend said if it was a muscle injury it could be repaired via PT but since its not it wont heal on its own.. but basically I felt ive dislocated my shoulder or "popped" it probably more than 6x with really bad pain and stiffness which goes away eventually Hill-Sachs deformity. Edema suggests acute on chronic injury. Extensive tearing of the anterior inferior labrum with detachment and tearing extending from at least the 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock position. Stripping of the capsular attachment as well as extension to the subjacent cartilage at the glenoid is noted. In addition, there is suggestion of SLAP tear. No paralabral cyst is noted.

doing those exercises makes my entire arm go numb. Not pins and needles, like it just isn't there at all. It makes my arm feel heavy and I can't control it. Wish I could get my doctor to take my shoulder issue seriously. But I hurt it 3 years ago, at first they thought I tore my bicep, then they tried to blame it on tennis elbow, moved on to bone spur in shoulder. All guesses on their part. I have severe pain from center of my shoulder rounded around to the back. It causes my right shoulder blade to cramp up a lot. I can't open doors, no twisting of the wrist and I am having to do everything left handed, including writing as I can't even pick up a pencil. I injured my shoulder when my do knocked me down a hill, I landed on front of my left shoulder causing the injury on the back and top of my shoulder. It pops, cracks, and I can sometimes make the numbness and pain go away by jerking my shoulder back really fast and hard and it pops. It is an "ahhhh" moment for awhile.

Hello, recently I dislocated my right shoulder anteriorly while surfing. I had it reduced by a family member within 45 minutes of the dislocation. I’ve had my arm in a sling for a little over a week and haven’t had much pain after the first few days. I’ve tried checking my shoulder mobility and I can’t raise my arm laterally or abduct past 45 degrees. I fear I have torn my anterior labrum since it is of high probability, however I only have very slight popping with no pain occasionally. It is my first time dealing with dislocation and am going to try the physical therapy route of recovery and god willing have a stable shoulder. Am I showing good signs thus far?

Saw my PT for shoulder pain and he thinks it may be my labrum. Its on the posterior side of shoulder. It only hurts when I flex my biceps or during lat pull downs. Not when I bench press. I hurt it during deadlifts. Is surgery required?

Hello Doctor, I am a cricket player fast bowler. but from last 7-8 months I have been suffering from shoulder pain.There is always a clicking sound in my shoulder in any type of movement. While bowling I don't feel any kind of pain, but it pains too much while throwing the ball. Recently I've done the MRI it's shows i have a slap team which is clocking 11 to 12' O clock and There is separate tear of the anterior inferior labrum which takes the form of a Perthes lesion. Labral tissue is torn from the glenoid rim but remains attached to the periosteum. Stripping of the periosteum along the anterior inferior glenoid. I have no pain or discomfort at all except throwing, i can do everything without any pain but i want to get my throw back. What do you suggest me to do now and how big my tear is in term of grade. Thank you.

Sometimes you can have night time pains with these types of injuries. Doesn't necessarily mean it is coming from putting extra strain in the area though.

Will a slap tear heal on its own?
@docjenfit
@docjenfit Жыл бұрын
A lot of that depends on the degree of the tear and where it is. Many slap lesions have a lot of difficulty healing because of a lack of blood supply to the tissues. However, there are many conservative methods for treatment depending on the severity and type of tear!

Joe 'Rogan says CPI IN TIJUANA CAN REPAIR IT WITH A SIMPLE INJECTION OF STEM CELL...OR PRP ? ANY THOUGHTS ?
@docjenfit
@docjenfit 11 ай бұрын
Based on the interviews that we have had on PRP/Stem Cell injections, there is still a significant amount of conservative rehab that comes along with these injections in order to get true "healing." It may have some impact on the rate of tissue healing, but we need to help the body overcome the underlying restrictions that may have contributed to tearing in the first place.

Last friday I fell on my shoulder after slipping...went to ER xray was fine, awaiting mri now in a few days. Spoke to ortho on phone who believes labrum tear. I've had occasional soreness but not terrible...worst issue is instability. I keep it mostly in a sling but very simple movements can make it feel like its going to pop out (like straightening arm and swaying gentle circles). Hard to say if stability has improved since friday...maybe slightly as in the beginning it would feel more unstable even in sling. My question: can stability get back to normal without surgery? I dont lift weights or play sports anymore now at 44 years old.
