My hot tip is to avoid Paris like the plague. I have traveled/lived all over Europe, and it is by far and away the smelliest, hardest to navigate city filled with utterly inhospitable people who'd kick your teeth out if they could. The French elsewhere in France are delightful. Go to the west coast or Monico. You'll have a great time with great people.

I'm an American living in the Southwest. This is 100% accurate (the bonjour) although I have gotten away with it a few times because I knew the shopkeeper.

Anything that angers the French is objectively good. Keep it up world I'm proud of you!

to add on to tip 1, be sure to say some form of goodbye! My french gf always gets on me for forgetting to say goodbye, even in America where it's not customary

I am not an American but the Parisians are rude whatever you do. I can't speak for the rest of France, though.
