Another idea for great lighting! Place glowstone In your paths in random areas, then try placing black, grey, or brown carpets on top of these glowstone blocks, the carpets let light through, but also blend nicely with the path :)

even though I put up torches temporarily during survival, I usually at least go back to either change the source of light or make it somewhat hidden. Can't say I do the greatest job, but at least I get closer to the look with each touch up. Nice take. Playing with the shadows is something I actually like doing to an extent. Regardless of my style, it is pretty informative for what little you spoke about.:D

One things that would be pretty cool if you built, or started a small build series of, would be like a monumental kind of build! Or landmarks and such to put around a town/village/city to make look better! Like statues or spires of stone or just designs and stuff around the towns!

I never thought of moving torches away from windows to get different outside light levels and to add a nice natural feel. The only issue there is I do furnish my houses and torch placement inside the houses themselves is limited.

well is a little hard not to use torches in Survival im using different Mods adding extra mobs and if i remove all the outside torches they will kill all my villlage in one night =P...

I wish Mojang would have a sort-of super server that can support all the people who play minecraft, similar to MMO's. I can just imagine logging on and seeing hundreds of people helping build your buildings on a big survival world. That would be awesome! :D

What about a vid talking about mending natural scenery with dense urban traits? Personally I find it hard getting that right balance of grass, trees, and ponds to complement how little space the road itself leaves untouched..

Hey Madnes64 I have an idea I don't know if you have touched on this yet but I've seen some builders have "zones" for the poor, mid, and upper class within a city. Perhaps you could talk about the different building styles and distribution of the classes in medieval cities and how they interact with each other.

Watched this video and went into my game, changed the time to night and looked at it from overhead. Holy crap! I hadn't realized because I keep it daytime a lot to build, but there was waaaayyyyy too much light. And light in illogical places! Like in the horse stables. Burning torches in a horse stable. Hello, fire hazard. So I took your advice and went through every building, readjusting lighting to be more realistic. Thanks, Madnes! (Now if only there weren't bats....)

i think the reason why people spam torches everywhere is to mob-proof their builds, maybe you could make a building tips video to show how to properly use lights and shadows but still remain relatively mob proof?

other than just getting a seed why not just make the landscape yourself? you could make one easily by using world painter and by doing this you can visualize and customize the area to your liking since the design of it is up to you.

I point out that torch light is different than skylight just a bit but its torch light is ok most of the times.... And also yah torches are outside the buildings so we don't got zombies spawning in outside the house and break doors xD

You won't see it very much on servers, because most servers are on easy-hard mode and they don't want creepers to spawn
