This is the fifth part of a series of videos I'm making, talking about techniques to create a stylized 3D character, using Blender, Zbrush, and Krita.
In this part, I continue painting different maps for the final skin texture in Blender. These maps include: skin details, pores bump map, SSS map and Specular map.

16:10 for the pores in blender 2.8: add a image texture node in the shading sector and a bump node. connect the color to the height and the normal to the normal of the principled BSDF. also adjust the strength and distance of the bump node. i went with 0.5 for the stregth and 0.3 distance.

hey Rico! I really loved this tutorial. I definitely learned a lot from you! I have a just a bit of question. would you be interested in making a tutorial on how to create eye texture that you used for this character? thanks to you, I can now make a decent looking character but I am always finding that creating a texture for the eye is very hard. cheers in advance.

Don't know if you'll see this. But I can't seem to find anywhere why my lighting is so severe. It's making painting the normal map really weird, and difficult to see its accurate representation. It seems somewhat related to my lights, hiding them doesn't help, and if I get rid of the lamps its just darkness. I've tried adjusting the display specularity and intensity, which makes it less glossy but doesn't get rid of the strange harsh lighting. Any ideas? I can work around it I guess but it's a giant pain in my butt. (link to image demonstration: i.imgur.com/UkLCMRw.jpg )

Don't worry too much about the deep bump. Just set the strength of the normal slider (in the textures panel about 16:40 in the video) to about 0.100 This is just a preview. After you're done painting the bump map, you can tweak it's strength later. The lighting is very weird in the blender render mode, to avoid that black shadow on the face you should just try to tweak your lights positions and intensity a bit.
