Can you guys do a set commentary? I want to hear a DJ talk about their set while I see the set going on. I think that would be super interesting and worth the effort.

Pizzaman Gargatuloth check out Laid-back Luke vlogs. He has 2 videos up where he types what he's doing. one is just practice and one is in a club.

use extentions cords for rooftop parties and light socket plug adapters for power. also bring a 3 to 2 prong adapter. you can find these products in any home depot or hardware store. if all else fails use a battery with inverter.

Great tip! Just make sure you know how much power those light sockets and the circuits behind them can handle :) -Dan

Yes. I ran my whole turntable mixer and lights and speaker to it all night. Even though it wasnt grounded obviously. But we jammed all night NYC style!

You forgot: Have a cordon or ropes or something around the booth or table that you're using to stop people trying to put drinks on your table or lean over your table with their drinks, because drunken idiots will dump a pint of lager over your mixer/laptop then bail before anyone can catch them.

Different variety of audio cables and/or adapters. Preferably XLR, TRS 1/4"

And if you are in the Netherlands and probably more EU countries remember that throwing a party in some random location and being a nuisance to neighbors is a great way to get your gear impounded by the cops. So use venues with permits or check if you need a permit. And also remember that noise isn't only made by the set but also by your visitors. So if the soundsystem can't be heard outside, you could still be in trouble if the visitors ar creating a lot of noise outside. A party I worked at needed to get bouncers to keep visitors quiet outside, or their permit would get pulled.

Always bring heavy duty tape with you, great to keep cables and connections tight ;)
@lesstraveledpath7 жыл бұрын
Gaff tape is better that duct tape. Gaff tape is much less sticky than duct tape -- it will not leave residue on cables and floors. Good quality Gaff tape will hold better in very cold and very hot situations. Gaff tape is not cheap, but it is worth it.
@GaryG00ch6 жыл бұрын
I keep both. You can never have too much gaff, but having that one roll ducttape around for random things have been a lifesaver.

security some people on the even think about that but if it's an event that you're hosting in an area you're not too sure about always hire security team

Yo, I'm a 14 year old dj, and so far, I have been dj'ing in my home. I have never had a live set yet. If I were in a big festival, how is this going to help? And I also ain't used to dj'ing outside, so what are the best locations to have a set?

Coming from a guy who's moderately successful in a smaller sized town that started with nothing, try to throw together birthday parties and weddings for friends and family. Consider doing it cheap/free and using these events as marketing opportunities if the hosts are cool with it. Bring business cards or fliers and hand them out. Facebook events are especially effective. Good luck bro.

Best advise I can give is to offer free help to other dj/production crews. You will prob have a hard time with this until you are of legal drinking age but keep your eyes open. Crews always need help moving gear and wrapping cables and stuff like that. Not only will they possibly help you out down the line, but you will be learning super useful skills.

I kinda don't get it. Is this supposed to teach a DJ on how to be in charge of day of show production? Just for the stage? There are several considerations that a performer should never have to account for, and re the responsibility of the event producer / promoter. In terms of the PA- you didn't mention hiring a professional PA & Staging rental company with engineers. Labor for stage outside the PA company engineers, like stagehands or a stage manager. Off stage- Permits from local government. Security and local police. Box office staff. Show runners and talent transportation. Production manager. House merch contact. There are 1,001 more "jobs"to worry about, as this is business of details. I am not sure if someone will watch this and think they can go ahead and produce and promote and event without serious experience working dozens of them in different staff positions, some serious money they are are they can lose- not to mention how to intelligently book DJs and pay appropriately for their event, create show budgets, properly promote the event, buy advertising including traditional, internet and new media, and pull off the entire thing without breaking laws or putting patrons in danger. Is it a good idea to create the impression that there are 9 minutes worth of tips in a video that will prepare a person to take on sch an undertaking that is neither easy nr should be approached without experience. That said, by all means- people, take the time to work in this business and learn about how it works: the costs in dollars, time, blood, sweat and tears BEFORE you decide to throw your own event in a non-traditional venue.

likely, but (in this case, on this channel) i don't see it as a problem, because they were talking about a specific purpose, so it wasn't just useless advertising.
