I used to get very discouraged if I couldn’t find or afford an exact resource. It took me many years to be comfortable with substituting, so thank you for giving us box checkers permission to go off script if needed. Also I’d like to add that the SCM ebook versions of student workbooks are a huge blessing! We are a family of 10, so having resources we can print again and again is wonderful.

Hello! I know that this video is about staying within a budget but I just love the discussion about reading a book in person to a child versus having the child watch a video. This is my first year homeschooling, I pulled my children out of public school after five years of working in that public school. Through my years of working there, I saw ALL the teachers rely on videos of people reading the books to the students or even worse, using the fancy technology that reads the text on the screen in a robot voice. So that they could go grade papers or something and have the screen "teach" for them. It bothered me so much and I tried for a long time to "fix it" (as well as other problems) but instead I chose to be in control of what my children learn rather than all the children in the community. Thank you so much for this wonderful channel that has been a wealth of knowledge for me as I embark on this new and exciting journey!

Sometimes I can get the ebooks out of copyright but my library offers a free amount of printing per month, so I can print it there and get a duotang or binder from a second-hand store (or reuse what I have). Works great!

Yes! I went to a library sale last month and picked up a ton of classics. James and The Giant Peach, The Three Musketeers, Anne of Green Gables, The Giving Tree, Stuart Little, and more. It’s a great option.

I love you both! You always bring such peace and joy to my day. Can you all do a video on Charlotte Mason homeschooling as an Introvert? Any insight on this or tips?

Thank you for sharing what you would like to see in the future. Here are some helpful posts when thinking about this idea. Here is a post on labels for our children, which we could also flip around and apply to ourselves. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/the-lens-of-a-label-i-am-i-can-i-ought-i-will-part-2/ This again is written with our children in mind, however again we could apply it to ourself as the parent. Think of your goal for yourself, it would not necessarily be to change who you are as a person, however help you to become comfortable and confident in a variety of situations that will serve yourself, your students, and your family as a whole well. You could ask yourself, what practical limitations (if any) is this character trait of mine placing on myself or on my children? What is the goal that I would like for them to be able to achieve if I were more comfortable in social situations or outgoing? simplycharlottemason.com/blog/habits-q-a-helping-a-timid-child-and-habits-while-moving/ This helpful blogpost give some ideas around joining a co op. You may already be participating in one, however if not this has some helpful things to think about to determine if this would be something you would like to add to your homeschool. simplycharlottemason.com/blog/the-excitement-of-a-charlotte-mason-co-op/

I have wondered how it's acceptable for people to post videos of reading picture books aloud. KZbin seems pretty vigilant about taking down movie s that are copyrighted. But I have to say I have used the videos of picture book read alouds, not to entertain my kids, but to be able to preview a book that I'm considering buying, or even ordering from the library. For me, it's kind of like being able to thumb through a book at a bookstore before buying.
