I feel like bathing my Dane when I was living at a house was easier to bathe her outside with an garden hose, so there is no surprise of the tub or the shower head coming on. She would love the bath glove, as it was a massaging tool as well as getting her clean and exfoliating the hair!

My Zelda loves to take a bath. Anytime she walks into the bathroom she gets in the tub immediately. She also loves to play with the water from the hose. She will run laps around the yard just to play with the water.

How can i make my great dane as calm as Gus ! My dane is currently 3months old , so i think it's the perfect time to teach him..
@GreatDaneCare3 жыл бұрын
Some calmness just comes with age, but generally speaking a well-trained Dane is often also calmer because they understand what they’re supposed to act and able to follow directions

Our Dane, Levi used to like getting in the shower with me, mostly to drink the the water he could. We use "Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo" for his baths, now if I just figure out how to get him to turn around to wash the right side of his body.

I always use conditioner on my great dane after shampoo. It really helps her skin not dry out from the shampoo. But yes, the getting in to the tub is world War 3, I have tried those tricks and just didn't work. She has gotten better as she has gotten older, but once she is in the tub she is always fine. I agree with the removable shower head, it really helps to get everything done quicker. My dane just simply hates water and so it will always be a struggle. I keep her calmer in the tub by getting into the tub with her and keeping her hips between my legs. We all find the things that work, but for me the initial getting in thd tub will always be a struggle. But even though that is a struggle the rest of the process is streamlined and positive. She always gets a treat after a bath and she absolutely loves being dried off, lol. So even though part of the process may still be an issue you can at least make the rest of the process as positive as possible. I stay in the tub with her and use a ton of praise. After every is done and I go back in to the bathroom to ean up the fur everywhere she usually comes in with me to help. Being in the bathroom is not an issue for her at all, only the getting in the tub. So I see everything else as a win and the struggle to get in the tub as an anxiety that she has a hard time with. Being calm and praising ensures the rest of the process is enjoyable for her. I really think her dislike of water and being soaked is the key to her anxiety, but the drying after the bath is always welcome. Even bone dry she still wants to keep being toweled off, lol. I do use a moisturizing dry shampoo in between full on baths. I only wash her once to twice a year depending on how dirty she is. Her skin is so dry that I opt for dry shampoo for minor cleaning and bath her completely in the fall. Thank you for your tips. Just Don't want to see owners discouraged if it doesn't always work. But as owners we can take their cues of communication and work through it with them. Like I said, getting in the tub is the only struggle, but I have worked to make everything else positive. She loves that she is in close contact with me during the bathing itself. It reassures her that I am right there and constant praise during the process keeps her calm. Each dog us different, but I 100% agree with making the process as positive and rewarding and reassuring for our furbabies as possible. 😁
