We just returned from a 7 day cruise on Regent. I was pleasantly surprised to find “Plant Based Food” notated on the paper menu’s. Enjoyed 3 different smoothies,one included spinach. So good chickpea pancakes and chickpea fritters. The avocado toast on farmers bread was delicious.

I didn't want to eat at restaurants even before I started eating healthy because I knew I could make the same meal at home for $3. My sister was just making fun of me because we just had our first sit down restaurant meal as a family, and my son just turned 3. I'm happy to say most of his meals are made at home.

My omnivore husband (80 years old, healthy, thin, on no meds, perfect labs) sees going out to eat as his entertainment for the week. We only pick restaurants that have a large dinner salad and I bring a ziplock of chickpeas in my purse. I do not need dressing. If we go to a steakhouse (rarely) I order a plain baked potato and a side of steamed veggies. I go for the company, not for the food. I’d rather not go out at all but with almost 30 years of marriage I want him to be happy too. He used to want to go out both weekend nights. I’ve gotten it down to once or once every other week. I’ve been wfpb no sos for almost 11 years.

Our kitchen was recently remodeled, so eating out happened a lot. 😁 I tried to eat as healthy as possible, but even ordering a minestrone soup from that ubiquitous italian-american restaurant was loaded with salt. Thanks for telling people to tip. As a former server/bartender, I hated customers who made a big fuss and hassle, but didn't bother tipping.

My husband & I love going to performances of plays & music. We spend our money on those instead of restaurants. Also, if we do a Sunday matinee there's less temptation to eat out. Many of the downtown restaurants are closed on Sundays. I usually have a meal in the slow cooker waiting for us when we get home.

I really like your channel, but I’m a serious traveller and sometimes on the road for months… it’s not so easy then to “not eat out”. There are time when you have to just do your best. Mongolia is one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been, but there are almost zero vegetables. I spent over a month on packet noodles and instant oatmeal. I survived just fine and it was completely worth it for the trip of a lifetime. A little flexibility is sometimes essential.

I go out to eat in a restaurant at least twice a month maybe even more with a couple Meet up groups that I have made very good friends with. Most of those people know that I eat plant based so I always look at the menu before I arrive to kind of know my game plan. If anyone questions me especially someone new, I may meet I always say “I come for the people, not the food.” Some of the people, I know, roll their eyes, because they’ve heard me say that before, but I’ve been saying it for years! I’m telling them absolutely the truth! I have so much good food at home, that I really don’t crave a restaurant meal! Before Covid I had another Meetup group I’d like to go with and it was a vegan Meetup group… But since Covid that group has fallen apart because they were arguing on whether you should get a vaccine or not, and it really broke the group apart. Thank you two so very much for what you do!!🥰

I'm so grateful for Harlow, a mostly plant-based restaurant in Portland, that has a clearly labeled oil-free main option. Almost certainly still has salt, although it isn't sooo much that it stands out to me. Just steamed kale, beans of the day, and quinoa with a couple sauce options. And the plant-milks they use for smoothies are made in-house and they confirmed with me that they don't add oil or sugar to them. 🙏

We eat out at a buffet or place that offers baked potato and salad bar. Buffet like golden corral, we eat a baked potato, baked sweet potato, with salad veggies and a bit of their cooked cabbage and other cooked veggies that don't have butter, the little salt in those things will season the whole meal. ... There's a restaurant in the Pittsburgh area, ''Eat n Park'' that we order ''naked'' baked potato, with a big bowl (that they use for specialty salads) and the salad bar. We grab our veggies from the salad bar, a splash of wine vinegar, and take that back to the table. In the bowl, take half the potato and cut it up into small pieces and then dump the salad ingredients, add lots of pepper and mix that up. We do that when we go out to do our weekly/bi-weekly shopping, so I don't have to cook after putting everything away.

In the first year of eating whole food plant exclusive, we rarely ate out. Red Lobster was the extended family restaurant choice at about month six of eating this way, and I planned ahead and ordered the steamed broccoli (2 servings) and baked potato, plain. Now, we eat out on Fridays after we have practiced ballroom for an hour and had an hour lesson. It is at one of 2 Mexican restaurants. Rice, whole black beans, veggies (yes, loaded with oil) minus cheese works as well as I can get food without asking the chef to make veggies without oil. I ask for extra napkins. The wait staff has seen me patting down my veggies to remove excess oil. We eat all other breakfasts, lunches and dinners with food prepared at home. Lately, we've been burning a lot of calories on Dance Fridays with learning and dancing the jive to fast music!

I rarely eat out to be honest.

Not eating out means giving up some socializing with my friends. I enjoy it and I live alone so it’s nice to be in the company of others. I check out the menus ahead of time, bring my own oil free salad dressing and add ons for salads. I order a meat entree without the meat and ask for extra rice, potato or veggies. Most places are happy to comply.

I travel for work a lot. I always opt for sushi, ask for pasta with red sauce and veggies made without oil or I order a big salad with sourdough bread on the side. Steamed veggies and rice with some tofu can usually be done too if you just ask... As a rule of thumb, when I travel all week, one day in that week I will allow myself to order something without any adjustments to try out something new I don't eat at home. If I were to do that every day there is no way I would have the energy to work and make it through the week.

my best advice for eating out is... "don't." What I do is, I eat a full meal if i'm going out to a place where food is being served. And when i get there, i might sample a bit of this or that, but it amounts to maybe 200 calories, so even if it's greasy crap, it's little harm done...and usually I just have some berries or raw greens in a salad...

Great tips! We're a family of 5 adults and we all have different dietary preferences.When we do go out, we like to try places that offer vegetarian or vegan food, and we also like to eat at a buffet so we have more options like salads, soups and sides. We pack our own food like hummus sandwiches, precooked sweet potatoes and vegan burgers, nut mix and whole fruit when we fly and go on long car rides. It's become a way of life for us.

When I go on vacation, I always make sure to get a room with a kitchenette. I bring precooked seasoned beans, grains, & salad with dressings. I bring white & sweet potatoes to put in the microwave. I also bring salsa & homemade sauces. I have dry oatmeal bags with dried fruit, ground flax & walnuts made up in individual portions ready to just add water & microwave. I bring plant-based milk & coffee creamer. It takes some preplanning, but it's worth the effort. I don't like feeling like I have no control over what I eat at restaurants. The food is expensive, oily, salty & the options are usually very limited.

@peter5.056
@peter5.056 Жыл бұрын
@@jasonhsu4711 it can be high sodium, but those spring rolls are salt-free;) Also, a thing I noticed in Thai-owned restaurants, is that they always..ALWAYS...know how to properly steam veggies, or sautee them in mirin or water without oil. I've ordered a large order of the sauteed veggies and mushrooms with those spring rolls, and they really understood and executed well my instructions. The salt was served on the side (a nice dipping sauce based on soy sauce and what looked like sambal oelek. In my experience, the Thai restaurateurs are accustomed to catering to their patrons, whenever possible. However, they're also very honest in telling me they can't do it during peak business hours....If I have a special order like that, I call them as they need an hour of lead time for that. That said, I just about never eat at restaurants because it's SOOOO expensive. My special lunch of spring rolls and veggie mushroom stirfry, easily set me back $60.

My taste buds have changed since eating wfpb. When I go out to eat, I find it not always as satisfying as I thought it would be. I regret spending money on food that was only mediocre. I keep healthy snacks in my bag so I don't get "hangry" or make poor choices when I'm out and about. I also use my diabetes as a reason I can not eat something, and it eliminates a lot of social pressure. A lot of restaurants will give me extra veggies in my meals. I also phone ahead when I can. Planning helps.

That’s so true Reebs! People do not know what we’re talking about. I went to a restaurant that supposedly had vegan choices. It was a farm to table restaurant in a cute resort town in Wisconsin. Their menu marked vegan” dishes with a V. Each one contained an egg🤦🏻‍♀️. It can be exhausting going to a restaurant but it’s something we do because so much of socialization centers around food. Makes me want to become a hermit.😂 Thanks to both of you for addressing this!

This is a little depressive, but it's true. Most restaurants don't care about your health (even those labelling themselves as healthy serve lot's of meat dishes and use oily dressings in salads and sandwiches, and of course there is always salt added to the food as well). I started out my plant-based journey trying to avoid oil, knowing it was the healthiest way to eat, but somehow the oil sneaked it's way back especially after getting a boyfriend that eats vegetarian (and loves his cheese pizzas, eggs and oily foods like chips). I went off the health wagon, and started eating like him to some degree. I want to get back to my healthy starting point again, and I hope my boyfriend's unhealthy habits are not going to affect me this time! Gosh the biggest obstacle to healthy eating is living in a world that don't.

A few years ago I made a decision that I would no longer go out for lunch or dinner at a restaurant. I simply didn't and still don't enjoy it. Where I live, there are a lot of cafes, so I can meet up with friends for a herbal tea and not feel uncomfortable not ordering anything to go with it. It makes life so much simpler and cheaper for all of us. I'm relatively new to your channel, but have noticed that you use an Instant Pot fairly regularly. I know they are great timesavers and I did have one once, but was afraid to use it. I've since given it away. A friend had a horrible accident with a pressure cooker years ago and that did it for me. I know they are safer now, but I still can't get past my friend's lifechanging injury. I do use a crockpot, but of course it takes forever to make a meal. I'm not one that likes to cook much anyway and wonder if you have other fast recipes that don't require an Instant Pot. I haven't looked at your full sight yet so please excuse me if you have other recipes that I haven't found on your site that are quick and easy using a pot other than an Instant Pot.

I monthly go to a steakhouse with friends that has a great salad bar and used to get that each time bringing my own dressing, but I realized by the end of the evening that I was very gassy. Finally decided that they must spray something on the greens to keep them fresh or something like that? Now, when I meet these friends there, I order a plain baked potato, and a plain, sweet potato and plain steamed broccoli. They know me as “weird” anyway so they laughed about it the first time. But now we chat for hours, my abnormal eating is normal for me and that works. No gas. 😊

Tucson has the Govinda natural foods restaurant where they have a buffet style vegan meals for about 10 dollar a person for lunch / 12 dollar for dinners. It's not perfect, but you can pick you own ingredients , it is vegan (several days a week at least) and not super expensive at all especially since its an all you can eat place. Also it's beautiful! Maybe an idea for a romantic date to take Reebs to? ;) (there is a petting zoo for Luca as well)

Yes pretty cool place. But it was pretty oily when I was there last a few years ago so I wouldn’t really call it compliant. Doesn’t mean I don’t eat that kind of thing once in a while.

@@WellYourWorld hahaha no me neither. But once a year when we fly over to Tucson to be with family it is a lot nicer than all those sport bars they want to go all the time 🤠

Each to their own, but if you’re eating out like 1-6 times per month then it’s really not gonna have any significant impact on your health to not worry too much about how clean the food is. Some people are robots and can eat clean 100.000% of the time, but for a lot/ most people it's probably “healthy” to not be overly obsessed with health at all times.

Find the frequency that works for you. It’s not that some people CAN go 100% which is true, it’s that some people must.

Be careful with baked potatoes. Our granddaughter works in a steak house, and she told us they coat their baked potatoes in beef fat before they bake them!

I’ve heard that too, especially at popular chain restaurants. Have to be extremely careful and always ask before ordering 👩‍🏫

Well, i don’t eat out at all. Whenever my extended big family decide to go for korean barbecue, i always end up doing the grilling their meat, fish, chicken, veggies, cracking jokes but not eating. I only go for the social not the eating.

Reebs, I gotta know--I also have purple hair, and I use a shampoo/conditioner combo with tint. Are you dyeing, or tinting? You don't have to tell me if it's a secret 😊

Hey Holly. I usually dye it. I was using a color conditioner called Overtone but then I found out it badly stains the hair. (Found out when I tried to bring some pieces blonde). Which is too bad because I did like that product. But now I just get it dyed.

Even if you can evade the oil (big if), I can't stand the saltiness of restaurant/fast food! It's unpalatable. Like hello America, there are so many wonderful spices out there. Branch out my dudes! 😅

My partner loves eating out and eating crap at home. He’s getting fatter and fatter, while I’m eating cleaner and cleaner. I love and care about him, but I know he’s shaving years off his life, and I’m finding it less and less amusing that I have to constantly be researching the “best” restaurants for him, so we both don’t end up eating crapily made crap, versus well made and tasty made crap (if you know what I mean). Hate airing this on the internet with my name but it’s just facts lol.

The body needs salt the problem its processed and people dont eat salt on only a need basis
@WellYourWorld
@WellYourWorld Жыл бұрын
No the body does not need salt. The body needs sodium which for normal people is adequately present in whole foods. Humans are roughly 250,000 years old and we only started playing with salt about 5-10 thousand years ago. For almost our entire existence there was no salt. It’s still ok to have some of course, but it’s also easy to overdo it.
