actually, the best masculine looking shirt I've ever had was from a shop that tailored exclusively to large busted women I could wear a shirt that accommodated my breasts without everything else being disproportionate (like the collar, or shoulders, etc.)

If you have a big bust and button ups tend to gap and strain between buttons on the chest (even when the rest of the short fits great), look for button-ups with hidden buttons that face the opposite direction. You may have to look in places that specialize in big-busted fashion. I got one from the Lane Bryant brand that has these, and I never worry about gaps when I wear it! If you have a sewing machine and a little know-how, you can even add these buttons yourself!
@DG-ze5yd4 жыл бұрын
omg, I never thought to add a button to the opposite side! Thank you, I've turned down so many tops I liked cuz of the boob gap T.T

If you are getting a gap when the shirt is all the way buttoned up, just adding an extra button (I do it on the inside) fixes it and makes the shirt look a lot cleaner.
@domy68274 жыл бұрын
also the darts thing, I actually stay away from garments that don't have them because I would have to go up lots of sizes not to have the weird stretching about to pop out of the buttons look, which I think draws more attention to the breasts. in clothes with the darts, I only have to size up one or two sizes to fit without looking like I'm about to bust out

I find it reaaally tricky being 5ft1, hourglass shape with a large chest and equal hips BUT ALSO a tummy. I try to go for more androgynous/masc tops but no matter what the chest is so painfully noticeable.

I’m 5’02. I get my box flannels from forever 21 when they go on clearance. The ones with the hoody’s that detach. I have broad shoulders and bigger deceits than the average woman who buys those shirts so I size up to an XL. I do have hips but the shirts stop right at the widest point in my hips so they give a smaller hip illusion. As for pants, I buy the tech chinos from target and get them tapered after the knee. I don’t wear casual clothes due to work during the week so I’m usually in chinos or sweat pants.

Great video as always! My tips from personal experience are these: 1) it is worth investing in shirts made from predominantly if not completely natural fabric - the improvement in terms of quality, longevity and overall feeling of comfort is massive 2) shirts with hidden buttons in the chest area! - some shirts have extra buttons that button facing inward so you don't have these pockets open up when you move and stretch
@ChocHo0o4 жыл бұрын
Your shirt size doesn't reflect your body shape! Be comfortable to having shirts spanning 2,3 or more different sizes in order to get the look you want. And lastly, women's shirts just like any other item of clothing are made from fabric with lesser thread count than men's clothing because the industry wants you to be on display. So even if something is 100% cotton, in comparison to the same item from the men's section, that shirt will be somewhat transparent. It may show an outline of your bra, etc. So if you go for the fitted look, it might be worth going up a size to give yourself more room when wearing the shirt.

I am a 36C with wide shoulders and long arms. I have found that knowing what your actual measurements ( like with a tailors measuring tape) are really helps with online shopping for button ups, especially if you are doing the ebay/ poshmark route. EX: My actual bust measurement is 37" so if I see the measurements for a button up are 37 or below in the chest, I am moving on. There are a bazillion videos on KZbin on how to take the measurements correctly and I highly recommend it.
@priscaa84 жыл бұрын
I really needed this video! I stopped wearing button-downs casually because of my bust. For work: I find that the buttons downs that are made with mostly polyester fabric are more stretchy and accommodating for larger busts. And it's less likely to wrinkle, but it can be clingy depending on the fit. The fabric of the shirt matters a lot too.

If you struggle finding clothing that fit broad shoulders, slim fit button ups from the men’s section are usually a good option. Just look out for how they fit your chest if you are going for a more boxy look.
@cindycarter1994574 жыл бұрын
Darts are also there to accommodate for the bust. They stop the fabric from gathering in the wrong areas so the shirt doesn't pull tight around the bust making or an awkward fit and causing that annoying gap between the buttons. If you want to buy shirts without darts its best to size up. There are also ways to deal with the button gap, like a smaller hidden button in the gap that some shirts are constructed with or you can DIY yourself. I'm sure someone else commented something to this effect, not trying to be annoying just wanna boost your engagement

Super good info. I am not large chested, so I don’t generally have problems with the chest being too tight on men’s. I also don’t often actually button up my long sleeve button ups. I really like Target men’s long sleeve button ups, especially their flannels. I usually only like one color that they come out with every other season or so tho. I personally hate darts/fitted button ups, it’s just not my look. I can imagine being okay with it in a more formal situation, but I’ve yet to try it!

I'm also just going to put this out there if anyone sees, but don't get stretch fabrics, as those are often made to be tighter, and stretch stuff often lays really weird. Think of wearing leggings that are too big and how weird that looks. Yeah, don't do stretch unless it's like a sweater.

Awesome video, Jade! I just subscribed a few days ago and have been binge watching all of this good content haha I looked through the other comments to make sure someone else hadn't already mentioned this (correct me if I'm wrong), but Hollywood Fashion Tape has been a game changer for me with button ups that have gapping. I didn't know about shirts with the secret backwards buttons, that's also great and very clever, but for shirts that don't have those, Hollywood Tape is the way to go to make button ups work when everything else fits nicely except the chest area and you want it buttoned up all the way. And I like to cut the tape strips in half because that's usually all you need for taping between shirt buttons, and then I get twice the amount of uses!

I have to say, not to go against the good advice, I’ve had success with old navy’s long sleeve men’s dress shirts in the “regular” fit rather than the “slim” fit. As a bigger boned 5’5” woman, broader shoulders, working in a law office, it’s not given me a lot of those awkward fit issues and not too long either
