Really beautiful!!! I continue to work with my aviary. I started in wood and then a friend told me to make it in metal, so I took some quick welding classes and next to it we already have the frame ready. Hello, love your video! So much information and beautiful birds. Would you recommend this kind a bird for a first time bird owner? They are very beautiful and I would love to have 1 or 2 of my own but not ready for a aviary. I do have a family and 2 dogs so I know that's a factor and don't want to stress out the bird. Sorry for rambling.

It is not really a starter bird. They are small which makes them more vulnerable to diseases and cold. However, they are peaceful birds and easily mixed with others. For starters, I would say starfinches or long-tailed finches would be better. I have a dog and lots of cats in my garden as well, if they have places to go like an indoor part it's fine.

Hello. Owls are one of my favorites. Great information about the breed. Another way I use to sex them is to notice that the male has a brighter white chest above the black bar and the female's chest is more dull looking. As you said, waiting till the male sings is fool proof. Thanks and take care.

Besides the zebra, the owl finch can hybridize with(And should be kept separate from): Shaft tails, society finch, silver bills, and a few others. Edit: “ Hybrids have occurred between owl finches and the following species: Zebra Finches (Taeniopygia guttata), Long-tailed Grass Finches (Poephila acuticauda), Black-throated or Parson's Finches (P. cincta), Masked Finches (P. personata), Star Finches (Neochmia ruficauda), Plum-headed Finches (Neochmia modesta), Diamond Firetails (Stagonopleura guttata), White-headed Munias (Lonchura maja), Bengalese Finches (L. striata domestica), Pictorella Mannkikins (L. pectoralis), African Silverbills (L. cantans), Chestnut-breasted Munias (L. castaneothorax), and Yellow-rumped Finches (L. flaviprymna), so take care not to interbreed these species if housing them together. “ www.finchinfo.com/birds/finches/species/owl_finch.php

Bedankt, ik dek de volière gedeeltelijk af met plastic. Ik heb via via grote stukken plastic gekregen die ze in fabrieken gebruiken. Andere gebruiken op maat gemaakt plexiglass op het af te schermen. Wel wat duurder maar wel mooier
