Good tip on the suspension lockout. The other thing I do is put the cable locks on to add addition security and remove any items off the bike like front fenders or lights that can blow off especially if you are driving something smaller than an rv.

I velcro my tire for max securing, also the fender on my radrover bike (exactly like the one here) is incredibly durable and tough, I rachet right at the fork over the top of this particular fender design. Been doing this method since 2020 with no problems at all on my KUAT rack. PLUS. I don't know why people don't reach down and grab the incredibly strong chainstay when loading their bikes. If you grab from this position and stand the bike wheel is already above you knee and at hip heighth and almost zero shoulder or rotator cup involvment on the lift.

Your a mover and shaker in the bike world. A common concern now with the popularity of heavier Ebikes and folks being a bit older is the difficulty in loading as you e pointed out. Any chance you can bring the need for ramp adapters to the attention of manufacturers and/or do some reviews on ramp adapters? Thanks.

3:15 important correction to your video: the arm of the Thule T2 really needs to be placed all the way up by the fork. Where you have it placed now, vibration of traveling, can loosen that arm and make it slip right down off of the tire. Then you have nothing holding your bike onto the rack, except for a strap in the back, and you can easily end up, dragging your bike, or even losing it. the arm needs to Grab the tire way up by the fork. This is why people take their front fenders off when they have this rack.

Good little tips! Would this rack type work for those long banana seat type ebikes/emopeds like the Super 73, Bandit, Hyperscorpion, the Rize Blade, etc.. ? These weigh upwards of 70lbs and tend to have a longer wheelbase, right?
@ElectricBikeReview3 жыл бұрын
Good question, some of those have longer wheelbase, which means part of the bike can hang odd the rack. I usually list the wheelbase in my reviews to help figure this out. My immediate thoughts are that yes, most of the bikes you mentioned would work as Ling as it’s the inside bike and ideally you’d remove the battery to lighten the load ;)

I would not use that hitch riser. That add leverage to the mounting point of the hitch and decreases the weight capacity of the hitch.

@Gary_Daytona3 жыл бұрын
Dumb question probably but besides the load weight of a 50 lb. bike farther from the hitch, why would you want to move the 1st bike OVER the top of the outside bike holder and put it on the inside toward the car? From a loading standpoint, it seems to double the amount of lifting and adjusting if you have a single bike. Any advantage to that on short trips? TIA

That is NOT it. You MUST secure the arm-with-hook to the bike either with a bungee cord (my preference), or the built-in cable (too short). I failed to do this and the arm fell down and my bike dragged on the pavement. This advice is vital.

I just got the Thule T2 Pro XTR and I have a Vado 4.0 and a Rad City 3. Both fit easily. Manual says front tire clamp should not be greater than 1" from forks, but I haven't had an issue yet. You can always take off fender, but mine is pretty secure. I'll probably add an extra tie down at first.
@davidmandle3172 жыл бұрын
I have a Saris Superclamp HD with Specialized Vado/Como M/S and the bikes tend to creep ever so slightly (despite the wheel straps) when the tire grabber hooks are located at the front fender top. Better to remove those front fenders, especially for a long trip. I also need to position seat-to-seat/bar-to-bar in order to be able to optimally locate the grabbers on that front tire (different bike lengths). I also use two strips of plastic upholstery sponge 12x2” approx 1.5” thick positioned over and under each rear fender at the grabber to protect the fender and better support the bikes.
@BLUEKNlFE2 жыл бұрын
@@davidmandle317 great idea about using the sponge. if I understood correctly, by doing so you don't need to remove the front fender right? what about the front light mounted of top of front fender ?. thanks!

You're still lifting a heavy load. I keep looking for a way to buy an e-bike, but I either have to have the Thule rack live on my car or not buy a bike. I can't lift the Thule rack. The ramps that come with the Thule & a few other racks, are the perfect answer, but unfortunately, the rack is way too heavy for me to handle. I need a lighter weight rack with ramps. Don't think they exist, but they should. There are far too many cyclists who are older and/or have issues with lifting.

Unfortunately, it seems that from the owners manual for that particular rack, you have loaded the bike improperly. The hook arm over the front tire must be within 1” of the top of the forks…. I.e. the front wheel fender MUST be removed. Many ebike ‘platform’ racks are NOT compatible with bike fenders. Some are (like the “center hook” that you mention). To anyone watching….. make sure to follow your owners manual …..
