after a few years I'm still lovin' watching and sharing these instructional vids by Metolius & Beth Rodden with friends who are learning trad skills.

I’d like to add that when placing smaller cams the necessity for a bomber placement increases due to the smaller range of effective size when compared to the size range on larger cams. Larger cams are a bit more forgiving than the wee little ones. I couldn’t agree more that learning to place cams was best done with my climbing shoes in my pack and both feet on the ground. Even better when someone with solid experience is there to judge each piece.

Thanks for the info, subbed. Beautifully and concisely delivered!

One potential problem with placing cams at the back of a crack is that you cannot see what the back of the crack looks like, it may flare out resulting in a bad placement.

+Andy Masson unless, of course, you can see the back of the crack...

Is there any problems with the placement at 1:16? I dont get it. it looks good.
@metolius5 жыл бұрын
No, it just better to err on the side of a tighter fit.

Anybody happen to know what crag she is at?

probably somewhere near metolius HQ in Oregon. (smith?)

The whipper at the end is most likely Trout Creek northwest of Smith Rock in Oregon. Basalt rock like where most of the footage was taken is all over Central Oregon.
