Same. I've been a 500lb squatter on and off for 25 years. I always thought I COULD be good at squat, like my body wanted it so bad. I changed to Mike's style. Completely game changing.

Squat is the one exercise I can't sleep without every week. I feel it build my whole structure so that whenever I stand, I stand strong. Both upper and lower body.

I used to perform the high bar quad focused squat only. I’ve started using this ass back technique and I love it. Really feel the hamstrings getting more activation. I did notice I had to lower the weight significantly compared to my normal squat. Do them both now and it’s great.

I’ve learnt so much from this video, i was squatting narrow for a long time but now as ive bought your fitplan I need to know how to do power squats for today’s leg workout. I do worry about my knees but love to lift heavy so am really pleased to hear the long term benefits of a wider stance, thanks so much Mike

Thank you Mike for this tutorial. I have been dealing with constantly tweaking my lower back amd think i was overcomplicating things. I am a taller guy and think this approach will help me squat stronger and safer.

I only learned how to squat in january and by march i was squatting more then my body weight raw at the time (i weighted 88kg and squated raw 95kg) by mixing my squats from both powerlifting and bodybuilder style to hit everything, for me squatting is showing great power and control of a free weight, love your stuff man :)

Good video guys!! I got in some upper chest but i love seeing a good squat day to keep you humble!!

That makes sense that fineness would yield more strength and the right moment rather than the rapid charge up of a animalistic lift were its kinda leaks wasted energy.. this method is like pouring the strength through a funnel..super controlled with a slow is smooth smooth is fast mentality

Enjoying the wider stance, feet outward squat. Weight increasing weekly at moment! Interesting how Mike always hit an odd number when shifting poundage.

Just realize i was doing my heavy squat all the time in bodybuilding stance. Definitely gonna do more powerlifting stance when doing heavy to protec my knee from now on and bodybuilding stance for higher reps. I am stronger close stance then wide but probably because i have neglected the wide stance. Anyway gonna try all that thanks for tips
@AnthonyVenmans4 жыл бұрын
Same for me. I always thought the more closer I keep my stance, the better I develop my quads.... but my true squat stenght is very weak! I will emphasize the wide stance from now on!

Hi Mike, Absolutely loved your video! It was really informative. My stance width for squat is shoulder width apart with my toes pointed slightly (about 30 degrees) outwards. I'm a 100% arse to grass squater. Big thank you for doing the video. Cheers, Billy

@@AnthonyVenmans big time! I was squatting about 365 back then. Now I am closer to 500 :) its not my favorite lift that's for sure haha. Deadlift is my baby and bench is where I need the most work. Getting there 💪
@AnthonyVenmans4 жыл бұрын
@@stelliumeleven2889 Awesome man!!! Sumo deadlifts for the win or regualr if I am gonna work on my powersquat stance? What do you suggest? I am now doing RDL (romanian DL) for over a year.
@stelliumeleven28894 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyVenmans honestly man its about mixing it up! Right now I am doing sumo deadlift one day, RDL two days later, then I do conventional block pulls two days after that. Deadlifting 3 times a week! Very little volume though. I find if I keep a particular variation in for too long it becomes too difficult to get better at it. Once I feel like I am hitting a wall with my progress, I usually drop the %s and switch to different variations. For example last cycle I was doing snatch grip, sumo block pulls, and conventional off the floor. I also have a lot more fun trying different variations. I definitely have my favorites. But they usually get old pretty quick for me lol.

Yeah my man wide is good as we get older safer on the knees and if u want to work more quads just do front squats little bit wider then shoulder all good I've seen Mike do this and im 6 foot 1 200 pounds pretty lean and my legs are good for my size im 40 years old so thanks Mike big fan from canada cheers bro

I need to improve wide stance power squat for sure! Any reason for squatting in olympic shoes with the raised heel? Most guys I have seen are squatting low bar in flat shoes without a raised heel. Front squat and High Bar squat are more often done in olympic shoes?
@apexg65714 жыл бұрын
Anthony 1987 I see most low bar squatters use flats too but have also seen some use oly shoes. Might be personal preference idk
@NoGymNeeded4 жыл бұрын
Raised heels is the only way i squat basically. Try it and you'll know if it's for you. I used to do flat and i never felt quite right and then when i elevated my heels everything changed

Is the powerlifting squat good because it’s healthy for the joints or because a narrow squat is unhealthy for the joints. Would it make sense to do one powerlifting squat day a week and one narrow squat day a week?
@sethhamcontact4 жыл бұрын
that’s exactly what i was thinking bro. one day i do powerlift squat then one day i do narrow squat.

Mike, how do you compare your power squat form to Stan Effering? Is there an advantage with his form in terms of power?
@LukasZ92.3 жыл бұрын
it only depends on your personal preference and where you have your strength... watched a tons of videos regarding stance with, toes in/out, high bar / low bar. high bar use more quad activation, low bar more hip. I am stronge at the hip so low bar is at least for powerlifting better to me. but I also do high bar (more body building orientated), to develop the quads more, because also at low bar you need the quads to stand up, if your quads are too weak, you will end up with the so called "good morning squat"
