Thanks for the conversation, gentleman. I'm three weeks post-op from a right medial meniscus allograft transplant. Surgery went great and recovery thus far is better than I expected, though I'm not getting as good of extension as I want and that's entirely my own fault. I'm about 3-5 degrees short of straight with passive stretching. Watching this video inspired me to move about to get a more effective implement to keep my leg propped up for prolonged passive stretching. Every now and then I rest my non-operative leg on my shin to add a little weight for a deeper stretch.

Hi. Could you please tell me the title of the article about the joint capsule that you mentioned early in the video?

Because I rarely find videos or much research on this topic. Would you address some techniques to help patients deal with knee buckling?

You mentioned it’s a different conversation if it’s been longer than a few months. What would prevent full extension if all exercises are being done and full extension still can not be achieved? What do you consider full extension, getting the leg to 0 degrees or matching hyperextension to the opposite knee?

Good questions, there are mechanical issues that could cause the loss of motion, like a cyclops lesion or excessive adhesions. What's normal may depend on the person, if some has a little bit of hyperextension, that's what we'd shoot for. If someone has a lot, like 20 degrees of hyperextension, we may not push to restore all that. But I bet that comes back naturally over time from activities

how would you approach a case with broken tibia and full knee dislocation causing all ligaments to tear. Dr. immobilized the whole leg for 6 weeks. now while waiting for tibia bone to heal therapy has been great but still hard to get full extension and fully bend. it has been almost three months since tibia repair surgery. great information by the way, you guys are very informative.

Hey Doctors. I had an ACL reconstruction(using hamstring graft) and lateral meniscus repair surgery nearly 4 months before. I am nearly having 5 degrees extension lag with swelling, What should I do to gain my extension back?
