Antifreeze was probably enough to prevent bursting, but not to keep it from solidifying. Quick trick for stuck black tank, if your gray is either not frozen or empty. Put a sewer hose on and cap the other end. Put the full water heater worth of water into the black tank if there's room, then another round of water heater full into the gray. Open the gray valve to fill the sewer hose with hot water, close the gray valve, open the black valve, and lift the sewer hose so the hot water goes up against the black tank valve. I'm 1 for 1 on that working for me in a similar situation (though more like low single digits in a 19)

RV & Marine antifreeze actually does freeze but it doesn’t expand.

Does the trailer still have wheels? Even the birds go south for the Winter. You were in Mexico. When was that, the Summer? The whole point of buying a bedroom on wheels and being a vagabond, is to follow the sun. As far as the toilet is concerned, did you considered the composting head option?
@AdventuresInNoMadness2 жыл бұрын
Hi James, thanks for commenting! That photo was taken last winter and yes it still had wheels, just obscured by all that snow!! We were in Mexico January through April of this year. When we bought our Escape the composting toilet wasn't an option but I'm actually glad we don't have it

Interesting! I appreciate your complete honesty about natural body functions. My main take-away is: Alaska is not for me. lol I'm a pretty hardy individual, but I just can't see voluntarily subjecting myself to that kind of cold. My time in Fargo was enough! Thanks for the video.

You said you go through propane every 3-5 days in the cold conditions. Is that all four 5 gallon tanks or just one tank every 3-5 days?

Might want to add that the buddy heater puts off a lot of moisture. The wave5 catalytic Heater is a step above those buddy heaters

You are right, anything burning propane does add moisture. Thanks for the added information, it is much appreciated!

I wanna live full time in one of these but i live in northern alberta and we get -40c winters here

That's definitely a little too cold to live in one of these! Of course at -40 any trailer is too cold to live in !

Have you considered changing your factory original analogue thermostat to a digital thermostat? Digital thermostats are much more accurate, i.e. 2 degree +/- variation from the set temperature!
@AdventuresInNoMadness4 жыл бұрын
Eventually we might do something like that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Why do you want to upgrade your batteries ? I'm thinking of getting an escape and don't want to spend the money on the lithium batteries unless I need to
@AdventuresInNoMadness3 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard. We want to upgrade to lithium since we are full timers and the extra battery capacity is important to us. With lead acid and AGM's you can only draw the batteries down to 50%. With lithium you can draw them down to 10%. We dry camp about 90% of the time so it makes a huge difference!!

Great video Ladies! Questions-Would 2 100ah Lithium batteries have helped your available power? 2. Would boiling some water and flushing it into the toilet helped thaw the black tank to drain it? Thanks for a great video; we camp every month for a weekend, so this was great info. :)
@AdventuresInNoMadness3 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching! All the batteries in the world can't make up for lack of daylight and sun to hit the solar panels to charge them. That being said, we will be upgrading our battery and solar system. Boiling water probably would have worked but it would have taken more time than we had in the moment.

So the tank heaters, that came with the Escape didn’t help?
@AdventuresInNoMadness4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, as we said in the video the tank heaters are great if you have full hookups. They are a drain on the battery if you don't. We have really no solar here in the winter to help keep our batteries charged up so we were relying on the generator and we don't run that overnight. The tank heaters definitely help if you either have electric hookups or lots of batter power.

Compost toilet will solve the problem.
@AdventuresInNoMadness2 ай бұрын
@@jotsingh8917 there’s downsides to composting toilets too. For that situation it wouldn’t have been ideal. Our rv was very cold during that period and composting toilets work best with temps over 65F or so. Plus with no power hookup and very little sun to charge up our batteries the fan needed for the composting toilet would have drained our batteries faster
