I just want to say a quick thanks to all the help you given me and others through all of your videos. I've recently sold a couple of pedals to friends and it's one of the most rewarding experiences I've had yet. Keep up the good work and thank you again!

Thanks Alan! I agree. You learn a lot of this hobby, and the more time I spend with it the more it gives back. All the best.

Great tips. Don't think I'll be ready to sell anything for a long time yet, but I'll be sure to remember these if I ever try.

I really hate selling pedals. I would never go ebay - I only sell them to local guitar players, that way they can try before buying and also it's easy for them to get them to me to be fixed if something blows up. Which never happened but still...

Thanks for the tips! I recently took an interest in DIY pedals and found your vidoes. I have really enjoyed them. What is your Ebay name?

Great suggestions and tips for selling DIY pedals. I've been thinking about this topic too and glad you brought up about standing behind your pedal with basically an unlimited warranty. I like that concept! I'd also fix anything I sold baring maybe blatant user damage where they fry the PCB with bad voltages. But if it's fixable I'd fix it. How do you feel about shipping charges or not for a repaired pedals that you sold?

Hi Steve. That's a tough one. I usually try and work something out with the buyer, also depending on fault. If its my fault I pay, if its their fault they pay. If its unknown fault I usually go halves. When I say "usually" im talking more in past tense as I don't build to sell much anymore (busy with the webstore).

From a consumer point of view, the insides of a pedal don't matter much. There are two main things that a normal buyer is after. Good looks and good price. For instance, if an analog chorus that costs 100 bucks looks dull, they'll definitely buy yours if it's prettier and costs 80 bucks. some more advanced users may want versatility in a pedal, as many switches and knobs as possible, but I assure you nobody cares if your resistors are made in china or japan. Same goes for the pots. The average pedal user (NOT BUILDER) won't care you're using Alpha pots unless a pot ever failed in his previous pedals. Pots are very reliable, no matter the brand, especially when they sit in a protective enclosure. You as a builder should know better... You can build a big muff for $10 (no paintjob) and it's unlikely it will ever fail, even using the cheapest components. Now if you're planning on using it on outdoor stages on a regular basis, that's a different story. But let's be serious, any celebrity will stick to their own technicians or known brands for their effects.

mendebil I dont totally disagree with you. An attractive pedal is going to sell better of course, lets not forget how it actually SOUNDS which i would rate as number 1 and should really be the first thing a seller adds to their listing (sound demo). Reliability of parts is important as a builder. Cheap 3pdt's fail. so to audio jacks, dc jacks, capacitors AND POTS. They fail. Do you want to constantly repair pedals? Or create a bad name for yourself? Whether stating brands helps sell a pedal or not, some people find it does, some dont. But i have learnt the hard way that using cheap shit is not a long term strategy. Also saying that pedal buyers only have 2 criteria for buying a pedal, price and looks, is an insult to them and to pedal manufactures and builders alike.

DIY Guitar Pedals i never meant to insult anyone of course. And i too care about reliability. But forums nowadays exagerate the need for expensive parts. I built a pedal for myself two years ago and hit the switch at least 50 times a day ever since. It's a 2 dollar switch from china and never let me down, as opposed to the one in my tc electronic hall of fame, wich needs some force or else it will click but not make contact. Mind that the reverb pedal cost me 20 times more... And as far as the sound goes, you really need to be a very fine listener (if not specially trained) to tell the difference between various part brands.

Hi Paul, thanks mate! I haven't added a link because I only sell the odd pedal, pretty rarely (mainly just guitar pedal parts these days). Here's is my profile: www.ebay.com.au/usr/katatonia2 Cheers

Good video. I think it's best to sell locally though. People get to try out the sound with their setup and see if it works for them. Plus, I like to use my own original designs. The sound might be different than what they are thinking. I can't just say "rat clone" or something like that to describe the tone.
@DiyguitarpedalsAu8 жыл бұрын
+CigarBGuitarefx Definitely a good point, prespective buyers can try before they buy, really helps. Alteast some sort of video or sound clip so they can hear it of course. Hard to judge by a loose descrption like "sounds like a fuzz face but with more highs". Although that does help too, I think sound demos are more accurate.

Do you think that donate clone pedals to promote my chanel would put me in trouble legally? I was thining about buiding cheap and simple pedals to promote my channel (especially the clone ones). Just for fun, to learn a little bit of electronics, learning and at the same time promoting it.
