3 Things I Learned During Our First Training Session that Changed my Dog
We hired a dog trainer!! Willo is an amazing dog, but she's also stubborn and really good at getting away with things. After a lot of hesitation and contemplation, I decided to hire a dog trainer to work with us on the things Willo needs to improve, such as her resource guarding.
It was intimidating and scary, but after getting a great referral I pulled the trigger and started working with a dog trainer. We had one training session at our house and were also given homework to work on until our next session.
The dog training fundamentals we were given has helped so much so far. This video explains the three most important tricks we learned from our initial training session.

Willo is best known for being the corgi howling while eating! She is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi living in sunny Phoenix Arizona. She's been howling while eating since she was about 4 months old. We call the noise she makes an "Awoo"

In case the BAH doesn’t ever come naturally - I use a super staccato EH. The same e as in egg. They stop in their tracks. I use it sparingly. This video is awesome!

Yep my 11 month old Tri colored Corgi is like wise supper smart and knows when I have a treat and doesn’t obey when I don’t have one

I let my corgi sleep with me but I put his crate on my bed and he sleeps in there it’s just on my bed

Thank you for these tips! my corgi has a major guarding problem and I have been trying to figure out how to resolve it without physically hurting them. Positive reinforcement works well with tricks but for obedience, I need something a little more stern. I, too, don't think I could keep my sweetie off my bed!

Yeah that stuff is so hard to train out of them! Hand-feeding your corgi yourself may help too!

we feed our girl Freyja with a mix of wet and dry food so we feed her on a lickimat. When she started guarding we started feeding her on our lap whole holding the mat so she didn't think it was "hers" then graduated to splitting her food into 3 or 4 portions so she started associating us taking away the food as a positive cause it keeps coming back with more food, haven't had any issues for months now!

The look on sweet Willo's face while you discuss the training! 😊 It's like a combination of, "Mom! Stop talking about me!" and, "Finally Mom's starting to get it. 🙄" They are so patient with us! 💓🐾 P.S. my friend Maude Dog often prefers to poop on the curb, sidewalk or edge of driveways. She also has a fluffy butt, and has assured me those surfaces help keep her hindquarters clean when she goes.
