Thank you, this video is very instructive and interesting. I have liked and subcribed and will watch more of your videos, or probably listen to them while I am driving, as other time is scarce. Thanks

This was really helpful! I live in Huzhou and often cannot even understand the prices I have to pay😅, although I do know they don't pronounce sh. Mostly people don't switch over to Putonghua. I guess, I willI get used to their dialect, but it is very frustrating for beginners. This overview gave me a better idea of the differences between North and South. I subscribed and wish your channel the success it deserves😊

I'm so glad the video was helpful for you!😄 And honestly, even among Chinese speakers, it can be tough to understand each other's dialects sometimes 😅.

Had a friend from zhejiang, he said how Singaporean mandarin is very "lazy" in sound, and when he went back during the summer, his grandma scold him for speaking "lazily" after just 1 year in SG Makes sense since there's a lot of teochew, hokkien, and cantonese influence. I also notice cantonese rely more on lah, loh, wo, gaa to add 情态 to the sentence ---- Also funny thing, we refer to 普通话 as 华语 (and 中文 is 华文)

Would Nanjing, Shanghai and Hangzhou use the southern dialect?
@LalaChinese2 ай бұрын
Shanghai and Hangzhou indeed use southern dialects. Nanjing, broadly speaking, is considered a northern dialect. However, I’ve heard that in Nanjing, people sometimes pronounce “zh, ch, sh” as “z, c, s”.

Nanjing (including my hometown Hefei) nears the boundary between northern and southern China, so the dialect has influences from both northern and southern Chinese dialects.
