I'd also like to thank you for the videos. I keep running across your stuff, and I appreciate the informative nature, as well as your unassuming way of speaking. It's nice to hear from someone who knows what they're talking about, but also isn't an egghead. Oh, nice gear, too.

Thank you Sir for going in depth on one method, (Down Imaging), instead of trying to show all the features of the 'Bird on the same video. I have a one track mind and need to learn each step one at a time. You explained every aspect in great detail in a way that made perfect sense to me. Now I can't wait to get on the lake to try this type of fishing. With that said, I have a Humminbird Helix 7 SI with Side Imaging. I am hoping you do a video similar to this one explaining the in's and outs of using side imaging. I will be watching for more of your productions. Again, Thank You Sir for sharing!

I have similar videos on the Technologies and I too find it much easier to learn, learning one item at a time than mass information sharing. Most users will only remember 3 to 5 items per visit, seminar or video so short, sweet and one feature at a time makes it easier to learn. Do one video then try it and learn it makes it much easier to master your Humminbirds and become a Super User.

Found all your video's! Cool!! Got a lot to learn and as you said, one step at a time. It is my hope that someday I will be able to help out other fisherman just as you have helped me out. Once again Sir, Thank You for sharing your hard earned wisdom and making the learning process a whole lot simpler for people like me.

Doug, Get Tips & Tricks as usual. I am fairly new to all of this, so your videos are a GREAT asset in learning. My question is, On the top side of the down imaging screen, what is the double white line with the 2 different temp readings representing? Thanks in advance and Tight Lines!
@DougVahrenberg
@DougVahrenberg 9 жыл бұрын
Jason Graning That is the Temperature Bar Graph. The Water Temp is represented by the line and if it warming the line would rise and if the water was cooling it would fall. Keeps from having to remember the water temperature and quickly see if the water temp is rising or cooling

Great video, however Ive been fooling with my lowrance unit for sometime and had it about a year. I often set my depth from 10 to 20 ft further than the actual bottom. If Im seeing logs, rock piles etc. BELOW where the actual bottom is on my screen like you had at around 7:00, what can I do to interpret what Im seeing better? Is there a way to tell if it is more to my left or to the right of my boat?

Larry, i see your using a 1198c SI/DI Unit. I use one also and i dont have the option of DI settings like DI enhance or Sensitivity. But have those options on the SI Settings. Are you just using a DI transducer in this video with no side imaging and thats why you have these options?

Thank you Doug, this is really interesting. I just wonder why Humminbird doesn´t great 3D Sonar from this images, like point clouds, combining side and down scan into a 3 dimensional space? Not like a rough 3d out of polygons, more like a laser environment scan. Is this so hard to code or just not possible with sonar? Best Regards, Josef

I just received a 1199 as a gift and all I fish is Lake Erie out of Erie, Pa for perch and a little walleye. I was thinking of trading it back in because I would think all I need is good down imagining. What's your thought and ant suggestion on a unit to buy instead if any. I'm lost on how to set this up for Erie.Thanks. I watch all you videos and love the help you supply. Keep it up! Fish On

Enjoy your very informative videos. I have an899siHD mounted on the helm of my 24ft pontoon..I. Just replaced my MINNKOTA Genesis with an Ulterra I-pilot link.i have them connected with the e-the rent cable and have currently hooked up both my ulterra transducer and the si HD transducer from the rear of the boat with splitter cable. I was told that I need to use a switch instead to use the siHD transducer for high speed use but then switching that off I would lose the benefit of combining the si with the us2 at the ulterra. Is there a solution that I am not seeing to get these two units to give me everything I thought I was going to get?
@DougVahrenberg
@DougVahrenberg 6 жыл бұрын
You can use US2 for the 2D source and SI from the other transducer not a problem. Just that the SI data will be further behind the 2D data.

Is the right side of the screen the direction your headed? I've never used electronics , I've always used the lay of the land and Interpreted what the underwater features would be. I also searched old maps and stories from the old timers in coffee shops.

Hi Doug, Amazing videos. I am looking to purchase the 899ci HD SI and was wondering if I need to trade in the transducer that comes with it. I am new to all of this so any and all information is greatly appreciated. I will be installing this on a LOWE SF214, I have a Minn Kota i-pilot and would someday like to purchase the i-link for it. I fish only two lakes, pontoon never leaves the water. Do you recommend this unit for my use? Sorry for all of the questions. Donny
@DougVahrenberg
@DougVahrenberg 9 жыл бұрын
Don Koep 899ci HD is a great unit. It comes standard with the Compact SI Transducer. You can upgrade to the HDSI transducer on the 899ci HD to get dual frequency SI & DI. It will produce a slightly crisper details in the images.

Hey Dough, can the 360 imaging be used in salt water? if so which is the smallest unit (inch wise) that i need to install to see side, down and 360. Understand that 360 is either bow trolling motor mount or transom mount. for down and side imaging do individual xducers need to be installed or is it that side and down xducers come as one transom mount unit?

Hi Doug ! I'm new to sonar world and not much older in fishing things. I've bought a small 16 feets fishing boat, fishing fresh water, lakes and St-Laurence Seaway ( Canada ). I've bought a 788 Ci HD DI sonar, that i can't really use, I try to adjust it as you show, but i believe the options are not all the same. I believe, i have less options than you have on your 1198. Playing around with it, i discovered i don't have the 83 KHz on it. Also is there a big difference between 455 and 800 KHz ? You're really helpfull, i didn't know what the Chart speed was exactly, i mean how to adjust it. You turn my light on about it. Do you have any video about this unit ? Thanks ! Keep doing a great job ! Mike

Michel Lalonde The Down Imaging from a dedicated DI element unit is different technology than that from the CORE Series (700, 800, 900 or 1100) Side Imaging Units. SO there will be less features like coverage area is controlled by the frequency on DI only models versus the SI Models.

OK I just got a Helix 5 DI GPS.On DI I have a picture of the bottom and that is great asset. When I get an "object" (fish ?) I see the dot above the bottom. Under this dot the bottom goes blank. I assume the blank vertical line in the bottom picture is because the (fish) has a return that blocks out the bottom view...Hope this is understandable...
@DougVahrenberg

+steve weston That is the sonar shadow from the fish as the fish returns the sonar signal it cannot continue just like a light the first thing the the light illuminates it impedes the continuation of the light or sound wave

+Doug Vahrenberg thanks doug. that's what I thought ....I just never see the "blank" column on video demonstrations.Makes sense about the "fish" return.With a dark column I hope the return is showing a BIG fish....
