11:46 liberty 🗽 very cool. I’ve never been to New York I don’t know when it will get there it’s not really on the top of my list and places I can travel but I do think that’s beautiful colors and I do have an affinity for the symbolism of the Statue of Liberty and the liberty I am surprise some of these aren’t selling for more money that’s just really cool.

I think his business model is most go for $4.45. This video is one year old. Many are now going for $4.55, but many others all over the place. If I had to sell for just over four dollars with fees and free shipping I do not think I would get heavy into cards. I own a souvenir business and have three postcards I gave them a linen look but printed on dull coated stock. I made the back look like a divided back with a fancy put stamp here mark. I think I will list these soon on feeBay.

Good info. I buy post cards to get postmarked and finding bulk is not easy. I won one of those 1,000+ lots on ebay. 1st time I bought one, ended up with lots of Colonial Wmsburg. Not my thing. I suppose why I get outbid is because 1,000 cards are instant EBAY inventory at 1-$5 each. Last antique mall I went to had zero postcards. It was shocking.

Oh be careful with those Chromes that look old, I was listing one the other day, and THOUGHT it was a chrome, shiny face, so I thought it was a reproduction chrome card, to my surprise when I turned it over it ended up being posted in the early 1900's! Not sure how to tell other than extensive research into the publisher which in this case there was no identifiers as to the publisher either, So dating some of these cards can be pretty hard.. I would have listed that as a chrome when it was an early divided back! But that is why I love this business. I do not really make any more money whether it is DB or a chrome card so it really did not make a difference other than the embarrassment of not knowing what I had. haha! Thanks for the informative video, always a pleasure to learn more!

I sell about 5 cards per day, so if I had your box of 800 cards I would be in profit about day 4 after getting them listed. I like that idea. I've found that you need to be careful with buying lots of postcards and make sure you ask questions. I've gotten lots that appeared in pictures to be standard size only when they show up they are continentals with only a few standard sized cards thrown in the lot. You have to be careful in your sourcing.

I started sending all my cards as first class packages -- in cardboard "sandwiches". The first class packages come with USPS tracking. Miraculously once I started doing this, the tragedy of "I did not receive my order" and subsequent refunds just about disappeared. I still use simple first class for international orders -- but I have about 10 percent "missing shipments." Mexico and Asia are the most problematic areas. I doubt the customers are the big problem, but rather unreliable postal services and street crime.

A different type of question for you. I have been printing my labels on my printer and then taping them to the package(s). I am interested in purchasing a label printer that is compatible with eBay and buying labels with adhesive backing. Could you recommend a printer and possibly a model number you have had success with? Maybe you could put an affiliate link in your description if you have a favorite. Thanks!

A Thermal printer will pay for itself in time for sure! In the link below I did a section on Thermal Printers check that out and I also do have affiliate links in the descriptions for all 3 of the printers. I personally use a Rollo thermal printer, but really they all do the same thing and depends more on budget and desk space. Link to video >>. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4S1aZdqiJemjtE

I'm starting to learn about postcards (mostly from you!). Thanks for sharing so much knowledge. At about the 39 minute mark you were talking about the rough edges. I know there are some old baseball cards like that called "deckle edge." Would it be the same for postcards?
@SMPostcards
@SMPostcards 3 жыл бұрын
Deckle edge is uncommon in the postcards as I see it as majority are trimmed during production. Sports card collectors are all about condition and edges and corners. With Postcards it is more about about the subject. These cards are sent in the mail so they have what I call shelf wear on edges and corners. I always look at edges and corners and if bad I bring to flea market where people can actually touch and see the card better or really bad might have to trash them.. Now some hardcore Postcard collectors want a pristine card and hunt those down. I don't have any examples of any postcards being sent in for grading that I'm aware of.

Most of the time I do not find that unposted or posted makes a difference it is more about the front of of the card. Postmarks and cancels kind of get into the stamp world but some collectors do look for them. Me I don't do much with researching cancels. Thanks for watching!

This video is great. I was wondering if you have had any experience with panorama cards. They are longer cards but of hotels and motels across Canada and the US. From the 1960s -80s. Beautiful cards but they are longer than the standard cards. I have a few boxes of them and am listing a lot of regular size cards that are doing quite well...but wonder about these longer cards

I find that panoramics do not sell well, and I now avoid them. There are a few exceptions, but you need to be careful. I'd NEVER buy a box of them.

$3400, but you got to sell them first. Good info! Being in profit after 18 cards is a good place to be, how long will it take you to list 800 cards? How many cards on average do you sell per day? All these things need to be considered.

Another awesome informative video! On another video you mentioned cuban postcards, were not allowed on eBay and some other ones I can’t recall right now. I noticed on this video you mentioned the postcard with the Indian was a good postcard. Are there any Native American Indians postcards listing restrictions that you know of on eBay? Thanks!
@SMPostcards
@SMPostcards 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daisy! I have not run into any Native American Cards that had a warning or in a offensive nature. Whenever you list a item on eBay with a Native American word in the title eBay will put up a waring when you hit submit to make sure it is not tribal item etc. I just click continue. This protects the original tribal items I believe from fakes. Also confederate and Mississippi Flag cards and Black Americana they have taken down. Mark

So it's basically all about listing the cards individually that's where the money is at. 1 card 1 listing. The people listing 100 card lots are the ones losing money.
@SMPostcards
@SMPostcards 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the time if you list items singularly you will make more, but longer time to sell. The people loting cards up either have picked thru them and selling what they don't want in bulk (Cast Offs), looking for a fast flip or don't want to deal with listing single cards.
