One that I would add would be current events. When the Lahaina fire happened I had 3 postcards that sold in 1 day. I didn't think too much of it at first. Mine sold for $6-10. Next thing I know, those same cards are going for $80. Aerial views of the town were going for over $300. Prices started coming back down quickly, so it was definitely a strike while the iron is hot. That’s a good one, yeah I know any areas that change drastically like that can really increase in value. Sanibel Island and Puerto Rico are two others that come to mind.

Yes! I am from Hawaii and have a large collection of Hawaii cards listed. The Lahaina fire happened the night before we moved our son to college so very busy and distracted. We left the next morning and over the course of that weekend we sold 40 chrome postcards, no big deal cards when I came back and started looking some of those cards others listed had sold for $200 etc. If I had been in a place where I could pay attention I could have changed things, but I was not online really at all that weekend.

Also would add China cards. Sold a RPPC tinted card for 800 last year on auction. Best one yet for me. I also sold a China card when I first started with lots of cancels etc. Got a 100 offer and ended the auction. 600 card. So you aren’t alone on that mistake. I no longer end auctions.

Wow that’s incredible! And I definitely know how that feels, I think we all make that mistake at least once. I always keep an eye out for cards from China, especially ones that have been canceled.

Thanks for all the great valuable information. You keep the treasure hunting excitement going by highlighting the specifics. I'm always looking for old westerns, since I'm in AZ. So much to keep track of and some names, I have to look up the spelling first and get a visual, since I'm a visual learner, but that's the fun part about it.

My grandmother left me a binder with pages of Queen Elizabeth 2nd, they have the queens stamp on them and are stamped and dated from the country. Where can I go to find the value please

I hve been going through some old papers of my parent s and came across some postcards by Arbuckle's Ariosa Coffee Company out of New York. They are of different states with different venues: a sugar plantation in Louisana, a winter resort in Florida, etc. How do I find the monetary value of these?

Do they say “postcard” on the back? They may be Victorian era trade cards, so a little earlier than postcards (and a little smaller in size I believe). I think the Arbuckle trade cards go for about $10 each, but I’d have to see yours to know for sure!

I'm just a broke millennial from Jersey that needs to pay some bills and about 15 years ago I found a shoe box in an office cabinet someone threw away filled with old vintage postcards. Yes there are clubs and shows where collectors and dealers can help appraise your collection! Where are you located? I can tell you if there are any shows or clubs near you.

What did you start it at? I like to play things safe so I would probably do a buy it now and accept offers rather than an auction starting at $0.99.

Hold to light, I realized after I recorded this I didn’t explain what they are! They are postcards designed to be help up to light and have thinner paper in parts to let light through. An example would be a postcard of a Christmas tree, with thinner paper where all the lights would be, so when you hold it up to light it is a lit Christmas tree.

You know what’s terrible? I recorded a “Top 20 Valuable Postcards” video last year and made the same mistake. But nobody commented about it until this week, when I had already recorded this video, and sure enough made the same mistake. I promise next time I say it I will say it right! 😂
