I own two key lime plants where one of them is thornless. Both grew in a soft pot, and did well. However, I transplanted the thornless key lime into the composted red-clay soil, and it took off like crazy growing to height of 9 feet with a width of 6 feet. I'm able to harvest around 4-5 dozen key limes every month and a half. I find that if I keep harvesting the key limes, then the plant is stimulated to grow more and more. It is constantly flowering. I didn't realize how much this tree loves being in the ground. I live in middle Georgia, Zone 8b.

Hi Maris, the tree is not ready to sustain fruit. Specially if it's a little tree. Give it another year. Most of my trees are at least 3 yo 4 years old when they are producing. How old is your tree? Their could be other factors too. Like not enough water or to much water.

I currently have a Key Lime (9 inches tall) and 9 Lemon Orange hybrid seedlings grown from market purchased fruit. I'm also trying to grow Mandarin, Lemon, and Variegated Lemon also from the fruit. I am aware that the plants resulting from the seeds may not be exactly the same as the parent plant and any resulting fruit, if any, can vary...but that's half the fun!

Nice!!! I have a Persian Lime tree for 5 years, I have like some fruits, but not lots like yours, what can I do to receive more fruits? I just did a root pruning and branch pruning yesterday. I hope it will yield fruits next cycle. I have lots of flowers but they kept falling off from the tree. I live in Syracuse, NY, do you think it has to do where I live, because of the weather wise?
@GardenloveHomestead
@GardenloveHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
From the sounds of it it's in a container. What I've noticed the most about fruit trees in containers is that they want more water during the flowering season. And I fertilize after during the warm season. Soil is soooooo important make sure it drains well, plenty of holes in the pot. I hope that helps 🙏

Hi, I bought a Mexican lime tree that was about 5 yrs old and transferred it into a half of a whiskey barrel and I put plenty of drainage holes in the bottom. It was flowering when I bought it and. It dropped all the flowers and never produced fruit but it looks very healthy and full of foliage. I live in Mesa, Arizona. Do you know what I can do to make it produce fruit or should I expect it to flower again this fall or winter? I don’t know what the fruiting cycle is like for this tree.

What do you use for fertilizer for your lime tree and how often do you fertilize?
@Bodhi7007
@Bodhi7007 5 жыл бұрын
I have found this recipe to be great success for lime, orange 1) 3 parts cottongin compost or any compost 2) 1 part rabbit poop or a 1/2 cup of concentrated Fish seaweed emulsion 3) 1 part garden lime Mix them thoroughly and feed your citrus once in 4 months. Make sure the plant/tree is mulched heavily. You be the judge on how much fertilizer to make based on the size of your plant/tree
@GardenloveHomestead
@GardenloveHomestead 4 жыл бұрын
Hi I apologize I didn't see this comment. To answer your question I fertilize my citrus trees once a month for the growing season. I try to change it up sometimes I'll do fish realize or other times I'll do the powder fertilizer other times all the add a little bit of compos and sometimes out add some ground coffee.

Hi there! I love your videos! I realized that we have a lot of similar trees so your videos have been super helpful because I am a newbie when it comes to fruit trees! I have many questions if you don’t mind! 1) What fertilizer do you suggest for key limes? 2) I also have a pink guava tree! I watched a couple of your videos about your guava trees because mine hasn’t been producing fruit and I an going to purchase some of the EB sure start to use when I repot it! And love the idea of the plastic bottles! And I didn’t realize they didn’t like direct sunlight! What fertilizer do you suggest for guavas? And I think you said you fertilize once a month from Feb-Oct? I live in Texas so I wasn’t sure if I should follow the same plan! 3) I also have a Kumquat tree and wondering what you might suggest for fertilizer for that too? Can I also use the EB sure start for that when I repot it? 4) Lastly, 😅 I have a Barbados cherry tree! I haven’t seen it you have any videos about that tree but I am curious if you have any tips since it’s not producing fruit either! I was hoping to repot it and use the EB sure start as well but not sure what fertilizer would work best! Thank you!! Keep on making videos!! They are super helpful to see the step by step process!

The container is approximately 20 to 30 gallons. I actually did a video mesuaring my containers. If that helps 🤗. If you plan on keeping then for a long time in a container like I am. Dont ho below 20 gallons unless its a drawf kumquat. Or you plan on uppotting in a few years.

Hi :) im sorry to hear you have an ant problem. what I've done in the past i past a sticky tape facing out so the ants can get stuck when they try to go up the trunk . just dont put the sticky part on the trunk and keep an eye on it so you dont get that area wet to prevent any root.

The thinning cuts need to be close to the collar. It looks like you have stubs because the cuts are too far from the collar, that’s why you’re getting lots of side growth. Try to prune close to the fruit spur.

Eb Stone is onenof the best soil they have a citrus mix. I love love that soil. I would even put other trees in that soil but mainly citrus. Always go 1 or 2 size bigger than current pot. If you go to big it can get root rot or dry out the root ball.

If I were going to girl a citrus indoors I would go with the soil that does not hold moisture maybe some cactus mix with a little bit of body and soil I were also not water as often now would make sure that it has much to keep the top layer moist. I would also put it in a Sunny spot.
