Pulsar, ATN, FLIR, PRG, N-Vision, Trijicon, BAE, doesn't matter, good thermal targets are key to sighting in your device. In this video, I will try and help you understand some different methods that should help you make your own thermal targets. We will discuss reflection issues, heat, cold, heat trail, and other important items. If you have questions as always, you can call me toll-free 877-806-2977 Thanks Travis Fox Fox Optic

Sir, you had me at emissivity. I've never subscribed to someone in the first 4min of watching, but you earned it. Great video.

I've seen other, good vids on making thermal targets, but I really like your ideas. I'll be trying them out in the next day or two. Thank you, sir!

I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the kzbin.infoUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope has done well.With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings.For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance.For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.

Very nice tutorial. Angling the face of the foil target is something I had not considered.

Paper plate and black dot in the middle.....plates make a nice circle with the insulation and the black dot pops pretty well. (not greta on cloudy days)

I use a roofing nail with a large head about 20mm wide and I use a plumbers soldering gas gun, I warm the point of the nail and push it through my laminated florescent paper sprayed Matt black (home made shoot n see ) and the nail glows real nice, It lasts for about to 10 shots then I re warm the nail. Through the thermion you get a nice orange dot to aim at and the shoot n see shows your bullet strike. Saves messing with tape. I did like the foil patch though for zeroing. I have 10 different ranges set in my thermion. It is an awesome scope.

I have a Pulsar XQ38 Thermion. When I attempt to zero in the scope at different yardages do I need to physically move my targets e.g., 50 yds, then 100 yds, 150 yds and etc? Thanks for replying!
@robertpage2927
@robertpage2927 3 жыл бұрын
Look at ammo travel from manufacturer will give rise and fall of bullet etc 223 at 50 yard 0 2.5 in high at 100 yard back to 0 at 200 yard on 55 grain shell. Look it up your ammo your gun and enjoy the more you learn the more you will laugh

I did not know it for a long time but should have which is targets that have a black target on them show up with the black target as hot and the white paper around it as cold Otherwise I just stapled a small piece of foil to a board and that worked to make a cold bulls eye that showed up good

I hate to break it to you all, but there is no such thing as "cold radiation" and the concept of reflecting cold from space is flawed. There is no "cold" in physics and thermodynamics, only absence of heat. Cold is not a thing that can be projected, just the same as darkness is not a thing that we can project. Imagine a flashlight that worked the other way around and shown out a cone of darkness..... that's not a thing. Because that's not how physics works. Okay, I'll shut up now and go away. Cool video though! thumbs up!
@foxoptic5887
@foxoptic5887 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, Instead of generalizing "cold" the reference should have been more to the consistency of a NIL forward field regarding the units temperature range.

Does it matter shiny side or dull
@foxoptic5887
@foxoptic5887 Жыл бұрын
Shiny side will work better as it has a lower emissivity. (More reflective) Be sure to tip it back 20 degrees or more and make sure it has clear line of sight to the horizon. Adjusting contrast and brightness will also significantly improve your ability to see. Physical dimensions of the foil or obscurity over the foil will also help improve results. A general rule of thumb is 1" square per 100 yards. So if I have a shoot and see target at 200 yds and I want an aiming point, I place a single piece of aluminum tape in the center 2"x2", @ 50 yds it would be 1/2x1/2.
