I had a eureka moment when you said “There’s no point in watering plants that don’t have any roots. How are they supposed to intake it.” It was a succulent epiphany. Thank you!

Hi Laura that plant you were asking about is called "Ruby Necklace or String of Rubies" it's scientific name is Othonna Copensis and its an aggressive grower. I have some growing in sphagnum moss pocketed in a palm tree in my back yard. Thank you for the video! Awesome as always.

I could watch you deconstruct and reconstruct succulent plantings all day long! Being in zone 6a means that I am gardening with you virtually and immensely enjoy all your videos no matter what time of year. For now, I do have windowsills and a long table at a south facing window (some lights for less than sunny days), with all my succulents. The Tillandsia really added some nice texture to the arrangement.

Laura - This isn’t a criticism of how you’ve handled your clamshell planter - it’s gorgeous and done well for years so obv it’s working for you! But I have some experience w drilling drainage holes (and not drilling drainage holes haha) into planters of many materials I can perhaps share w you. I bought a set of diamond edge drill bits for drilling holes from Amazon years ago and despite buying them lived in fear of them. I was terrified of ruining the favorite planters I bought them to drill holes into. But hole-less planters are only semi functional.....and eventually I got tired of babying them and wo-manned up and learned to use them and use them well. As a fan of your channel (yours was the first channel I ever subbed to years ago though I’m not here to enjoy it as often anymore it holds a special place in my heart - and got me over my fear of succulents and helped me stop accidentally massacring them to boot! My yard is now more succulents than anything else and I’m proud of it 😁) I would be honored to be able to offer you a token of my appreciation back in some small way. I’m in central OC not far from you; I don’t know if you are ever this direction or not. I would be happy to teach you to use diamond drill bits via your virtual consult method should you happen to have your own bits currently. I would also be happy to gift you a set if you told me where to send them. Alternatively, if you were traveling through OC I would be happy to teach you in person sometime. Just message me back if this interests you - and zero offense taken if it doesn’t/life is too busy/that isn’t your thing/you never see this comment. Best wishes.

Purple stem plant is most likely Othonna capensis a.k.a. 'Ruby Necklace'
@ohitsjustlovely3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Sometimes these look like they have mealies on them but they are not mealy bugs. I killed this plant with too much alcohol trying to get rid of the fungus/mildew/whoknowswhat that grows on it because I thought it was mealy bugs but I guess it’s a thing (www.reddit.com/r/succulents/comments/dcvb2a/ruby_necklace_issue_is_this_mildew_or_just_how/) These get BEAUTIFUL and bright red when stressed. You’re gonna love it since I think you mentioned the side you put it on will get lots of sun :)
