Thank you!! Finally someone who will teach the basics. I've been using a rotary cutter for years, but haven't figured out the nuances that you just shared. You're a really good master teacher!!

Great Tips! I purchased a small Bar Height Table for my sewing room and I STAND to cut my fabric; I know ladies in my group, who SIT and cut... you need to be standing properly, and the right height of table for maximum precision, and full use of arm motion! Also for rulers: those non slide sticker things work well to help keep one's ruler snug against the fabric so the ruler doesn't move...

Great tips! Thank you! Even if you know them (sharp blades! yes!), it's ALWAYS good to have a refresher and more detail that perhaps we weren't considering. The cutting game changer for me was getting the Creative Grids left-handed rulers to complement my Martelli left-handed cutter. Not having to compensate, look around my hand and wrench my neck to see what I'm doing improved my cutting game tenfold. I wish CGs would make a full line of left-handed rulers. I'd buy them all! On positioning, I do have to use the flat of my hand thanks to CTS making my ring and pinkie unpredictable, but I keep the pressure in my working digits' middle knuckles. It works, but I might want to revisit how I position my hand after seeing your advice. Again, thank you! 💜

Very helpful indeed. Thank you for posting.😊PS my mentor taught me how to cut towards myself. Not a skill that is easily mastered; I don’t do it in front of others as they freak out!

I wish stores would tear the fabric vs cutting it. I always order a bit more so I can tear the fabric and be sure it’s definitely on grain!

I don't have trouble cutting, but I do find that I may not be lining up the edge of the ruler correctly. If I put it right on the line, I feel like I get a teeny tiny bit -- less than a sixteenth of an inch -- wider cut than I want and I have to very carefully reset the fabric on the cutting board. What am I doing wrong?

I think the trick is to be Consistent... and use the same technique throughout the project... I was wondering about this as well...not sure which placement is the correct one...but I usually do right in the middle...and always keep to that consistently, as I cut.

I do not use the matt measurements for cutting for this reason. I find accuracy with my rulers. I put it on the edge of the line. I find that if you are consistent with yourself it helps. But, practice will tell you where to put the edge, so that it works. iI don't let any fabric peak over the line. BEST WISHES!

I just cut the tip of my finger off with my rotatory cutter. I was cutting and my rotary slipped and my skin plopped on my cutting mat. Not fun. Now I’m very careful
