Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes, Demos, Addons, Patches, Game Data (stuff saved to your hard drive that includes game data to make the game run faster as well as patches and fixes and addons - they all take up room. So if you have games you dont play anymore, I'd suggest deleting their game data.

@AsleepOliver no. Trophies only disappear if you get a new psn account. If you wiped your PS3 harddrive they'd disappear but only off the console, as soon as you logged in with your psn they'd sync back on

It's no use. Trust me. You'll need a larger hard drive. Sony is scamming people. Their stealing data storage space with all their "updates". Basically, if you have your PS3 set up for automatic updates and plug in a new 12gb PS3, and have a wi-fi connection, in a few weeks you'll be up to about 11gbs without even touching it. About enough space to play one game at a time. Thanks Sony! And they advertise stupid shit like." Would you like to download your PSP game to your PS3" ? Why in the hell would someone want to waste precious space when it turns out that you cant even play the damn game on your PS3!?!

I would back the data up onto an external HDD or flash drive first before you delete anything some of the maps, costumes, or whatever you downloaded is saved there, and if you do happen to lose that I think you can go to your recent downloads and redownload them but I am not sure for older games. but just incase I would back it up unless you never plan to play those games again.

alright, let me clarify it a little more. So basically what you're deleting is the data the disc installs on the hard drive to make the game faster to load so it doesnt have as much to load from the disc - you get me? All the stuff you purchased would be listed in there as DLC or Patches or something like that, usually - and yes, its redownloadable through your "download list" option in the PSN Store.

+weegee buster You'll definitely be better off with 360gb PS3 because 120 is really not that much. You'll have to keep deleting stuff all the time, and it gets very redundant.

memory and storage are different things. memory = ram (random access memory, this is typically measured in mb or gb) storage = hdd or sdd (games, music, work goes on these) you can't easily control what's on your memory without some special software

I seek the knowledge to do the same on the PS3 - but it seems as though the PS3 by default decides for itself which games get installed to the HD. Any truth to this?

Um, can you explain what exactly you're trying to download? perhaps what PS3 model you have and the amount of Hard Drive space you have? also - what content are you deleting?

Usually goes with the Game Data - but full game unlocks don't take up much space - like less than a megabyte (1MB)

Hey man, usually if the movie isnt there, its not stored on your drive. The PS3 would usually abort download if there wasnt anything left for it to do.

Ok, so my ps3 original space is 250 gb, all I have left is 2500 MB. I have a Toshiba USB external memory of 500 GB but in it I have music, pics...etc. How do I save my save data files into my 500 GB, and If I do it is my music, pics, and other stuff going to be deteled? I tried to do transfer some files but for example Dark Souls save file cant be transfered so what do I do?
