I recently got a psp and tried it out for the first time and was absolutely blown away by its capabilities given the time it was released. Sony could dominate the handheld market if they were just good at marketing their products in a way thats appealing to gamers both hardcore and casual. There biggest mistake lies in them using their own form of memory cards to make more money instead of just allowing SD cards like Nintendo.

@@novachrono2236 never had burn in issue with my og vita or any other oled device I've owned. I know it is an issue for some, but that is the nature of the organic compounds witch makes some oled panels prone to burn and some not. Microled will be the thing to beat oled and have no risk of burn.

RedL I know you’re probably joking, but some Vitadock images leftover from the abandoned Kickstarter cropped up a few months ago and work great. It actually does turn a Vita into a PlayStation switch, with a little bit of help from a raspberry pi.

sony actually sort of accomplished something like that with the psp go that let you output to hdmi tv's and control the psp go with dualshock 3 controllers via blutooth. they even made a little dock for it called the cradle base

The benefit of the 3G model is that you can mod it and use a micro SD card adapter made specifically for the 3G connector on the board, which is functionally identical to mini PCIe. The Wifi 1000 and 2000 can only use a game card sd adapter of official memory card. The TV can use a USB device.

@@everykenyan yeah, it's called a PSVSD, the SD2Vita is for the game card slot. You do have to mod your vita to mount the storage, but it's not that difficult and because Sony doesn't really support the system anymore there isn't any risk of getting banned

I got both, but I'm always on my OLED 3g/WiFi. The weight doesn't bother me at all. But what I do like about my VitaSlim is the fact Sony gave you more room by making the rear touchpad shorter. I'd have to go with the OLED Vita.

I love my slim, I got it last year with my switch. The battery lasts a very long time, especially if you remote play. Also get a hori grip, it feels great.

There's a fifth model you didn't discuss: the Vita DevKit. It's essentially the same as the 1000 model, only it has an HDMI out. Yes, a native HDMI out.

I love the Vita, it is the best handheld device, great form factor, fits in the hands just right and the battery life when it is in sleep mode or turned off is exceptional. Not like my Switch which I have to recharge every week or so when I don't play it. I can put my Vita in sleep mode and it doesnt loose charge over a month.

There actually is a reason to prefer a 3G Vita, particularly if you want an OLED model: PSVSD. This is an adapter which replaces the 3G modem, which is completely useless now, even if you wanted to get a plan (you can't anymore). The adapter is inexpensive, easy to install, and allows you to use game cards at the same time as your expanded storage (unlike SD2Vita).

I ended up with the 1000 3G model, only because I was really wanting to pick one up that day, and it was the only model I could find after a trip to multiple stores. I've never used the 3G capability though. Too bad they didn't sell the 3G models unlocked, would have made more sense, especially if they would allowed it to be used as a phone as well.

The 2000's only real pro from the ones mentioned is the extra hour of battery. Sure, it's a tad bit thinner, but it's the same area. So it's not easier to fit in your pocket or anything. It's lighter, but overall feel less premium. It feels sort of like a toy. One thing that wasn't mentioned was all the colors. That's a huge pro in my opinion. Your only choice with the fat one is white or black. Otherwise you'd have to shell out a bunch more money for the limited edition s.

I'd say the biggest pro is that it doesn't use a proprietary charger cable. The market can inflate the cost of those cables when supply is less.

1000 model was the pick for me since I love OLED and cant stand LCD screens, especially TN. I am a bit of a Vita maniac and have both the 1000 model and PSTV. I wouldn't trade the 1000 for anything -- the screen quality is just gorgeous. I would like to buy a 2000 model also, though, both because it's a bit more travel-friendly (thanks to the standard charger) and as a failsafe for screen burn-in over the long run. The PSTV is a good little device, too, but the wasted potential on that one hurts my heart a bit. If Sony had made it a true streaming device (similar to Roku or Amazon FireStick) as well as a gaming system, it potentially could have turned the Vita's fortunes around in a big way.

Oh the vita... What a great companion you have been. I truly encourage you, no matter what you get, please, mod it, not because "mUh PiraCY" (Unleast your game was delisted or region locked), but because how well you can transform the portable, I literally had the Switch Lite before Switch Lite even existed, hell, before the Switch even existed. You can get external controllers, all of your PSP and PS1 games (Yes, ALL), better framerate or resolutions (According to game), Fanpatches, and emulators that run pretty well (GBA Games run like a dream here). The Vita by itself has been the best portable I had ever owned, especially if you are a person that travels quite a lot, I had to do 3+ HOURS trips almost daily when I purchased one, and oh god it helped out, especially because I could play bigger console/PC tittles I had at home (DariusBurst, Gundam Breaker, Resident Evil Revelations 2), I could play in a better way my PSP collection (Busou Shinki, Strike Witches, Gradius), my PS1 games, and so on! And in my job, because of the external controller homebrew, I could pretty much play tabletop which was comfy as hell. And if you are in a more casual mood, please, for love of god, try out Visual Novels, I literally throwed more time than what I deserve in those. Oh... I forgot... You can use common MicroSD cards if you do the mod! Overall, I have even more consoles now, I'm moving to Japan and the Vita is really coming with me. I also do recommend if possible, the Slim model, because the Charging port is already a big point to me, but I had the OLED and it's an experience to play with that too. Get what you can, Vita is not going down in price never again.

Decided to get the 2k one over the oled ngl. I had the oled before and it was fantastic, the only issue was recycling through chargers which got annoying. My OLED version ended up dying on me one day and I couldn’t use it again(that and the port was damaged). Yes the screen is better but for the value and that extra battery life 2k>>

So just a quick reply to a couple of things mentioned in this video. The chargers are readily available via Amazon (of course they're 3rd party but work just as well). The old PS Vita models actually do have internal storage, but it's locked away from the user unless they hack their console first. Then you can use a tool called 'IMCUnlock' to enable your internal memory card on 1000/1000-3G units.

​@@everykenyan Well I'm not sure if it's still true, but at the time I set everything up you could only mount one of the memory cards for Ps Vita games. I use my SD2Vita (Game Cart Adaptor) for Vita games. I use the PSVSD (Internal 3g mod) for Adrenaline PSP stuff. I use the official memory for Retroarch emulators/roms etc. I haven't really swapped between them, but all the I/O seems slow anyway. The speed bottleneck from the system is probably universal for all memory. If I move something over USB it's way slower than just mounting the MicroSD on the PC. Basically, there is a hard cap that is probably worse than the worst MicroSD you can buy. IMO there is no difference but there might be.

I think overall, at least for casual players, the 2000 is better, smaller, longer battery, longer lasting screen, micro USB, 1gb of storage. However if you're into hacking, the 3g is ideal, you can replace the 3g with an sd card reader and have internal storage, which just looks really clean and opens up the cartridge slot, and you have that beautiful screen. I don't mind the larger size and weight, however the decreased battery life is a bummer

I got the vita 1100 which has 3G from Japan and I got the white and light blue vita 2000 which I love that combination of color for a system. I hacked the LCD screen registry settings to look more like the OLED and it looks way better calibrated.

I own a 2000, and, quite frankly, the screen looks better than any device I have. It doesn't matter that it's worse than something else, it only matters that it's really really good. So, yeah, go with 2000, and, definitely mod it before use.

I just bought an used Vita 1000 in Japan when having a trip there. Very cheap only 8000Y. I noticed there are screen burn like you said in the video when the screen is dark. But i guess that's not a big problem. I pick the 1000 model because of the OLED screen. I hope i picked a good model because i didn't do any research before buying the system (only know about the difference in screen between the models).

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know about OLED screen burn until i bought the system. But i guess burns comes because of usage right? Then every OLED screen will have a burn at some point. Dunno why i always go for the fat model since ps2, looks beefier and stronger than the slims. Apparently, the loading time is faster too on the fat vita model.

Degradation and burn in are two different things. The mura effect I mentioned in the video is the result of degradation not burn in. Since OLED is organic it will naturally degrade over time.

PSVita Slim 2000 is the best one to have 1) battery life is 4-6 hrs 2) it has a 1gb internal hard drive, so u can play a physical on the spot or download a small indie game 3) it uses a micro USB so u can use a 3rd party charger 4) the back resting pads are wider so u don't accidentally touch the back pad The original Vita has a OLED screen which is cool but in time it gets dead pixels and it has no internal memory so u need a memory card regardless just to play a physical game, the charger is propiortery the resting pads are shorter and it weights a bit more and battery is 3-5. Its not worth it just for an OLED screen and i have both models but I'll take the slim any day over the OLED

@@gordoncheuk474 it's pretty worth it if you're willing to Mod it. I modded mine and dumped all my game cartridges. Spent a few bucks on an SD2Vita and a large capacity micro SD card, installed Adrenaline and mGBA. I now carry my entire Vita Library, PSP library and GBA library in one handheld.

I have 2, the 3g with the full Japanese Joestu shell case that adds extra trigger buttons and a grip which makes it really comfortable to hold and at the same time protecting the front and back of the vita. I also have a slim in mint condition still in the box, I've been trying to find a hori grip for it but scalpers are asking too much for it and just about the cost of an actual vita itself which is ludicrous . I've been thinking about hacking my vita but i own most of the games physically, I have only a 16gb card and heaps of digital content which is why I'm considering of moding one of them. I already purchased a Sd2vita card but been lazy and not sure if I should just leave the vitas in orginal factory condition. I have 2 Psps as well the orginal and slim, the og one is hacked and I had games on them but I found every now and then the memory card would get corrupted. I love my sony handhelds, such precious devices on gaming history. I still have 2 Nintendo DS and still collect games for my new 3DS XL, the 3DS and Vita are the greatest handhelds that give you unique gaming experiences that we will never likely ever see again. Both are great peices of hardware and makes you wonder what could of become if both manufactures improved on those designs. A 3ds with a full HD oled would of been a better on the go experience than a switch, the switch is great but it's not a true portable handheld that can fit in your pocket.

i have the og fat vita and the slim. the slim is lighter, thinner, looks cooler but most of all it uses a standard micro usb cable, so you dont need to bring your charger as everyone one has a hundred micro usb chargers laying around

The upside is that you'll be able to have tons of data on the console at a fraction of the cost of the official memory sticks, the downside (except if you're a 1000 3g user) you can never use cartridges again. But if you're only playing backups on this then you're fine

Darrell Jones For the 1000 model I believe it's necessary since the system doesn't have any internal memory. For the 2000 since it has an internal 1 gig of space you might not need it but there tutorials that will should answer your questions better.

I have a 1000 wifi (the one i originally bought back in 2013) with ofw at home just lying around somewhere collecting dust, another sapphire blue 1000 3g with cfw imported from japan to take with me and a 2000 cfw that i just use for ps4 remoteplay (love the hori trigger grip!) When i am at work i mostly stream ps2 games with moonlight from my pc at home to my japanese blue vita, when i am at home i continue the game on my shield tv. The 2000 i use when my 1000 is charging or when i want to use ps4 remote play. Both are great but the 1000 fits my hands way better and doesn't feel as flimsy. I do also prefer the oled over the lcd, however if you have the 2000, i highly suggest to improve the color saturation with registry editor, it makes the lcd look so much nicer (still not as nice as the oled but much better than before) I can also recommend the hori remote play assist grip, in my opinion the only way ps4 remote play should be played. I am currently playing persona 3 fes on my 1000 after 100% completing persona 4 golden and before that i played most of persona 5, dragon quest xi and assassins creed origins on my 2000 via remote play. For every casual gamer i would say go with the 2000 and maybe get some kind of cheap chinese knock-off trigger grip if you are planning to remote play. For everyone with bigger hands or people who value better build quality of their consoles go with the 1000 and maybe (depending on your budget) get a second 2000 model with the hori grip. Also cfw is a must nowadays and it is easier to do than ever.

I had a chance to make choice between fat and slim. Long story short, the fat or 1000 is always a go to vita model. There are basically two cons: shorter battery span and a little bit darker screen, especially in direct sunlight. Other than that it's better than slim in every manner. It's easy to notice that Sony cut the cost with the 2000 revision. The screen, the cheap plastic body. In 2024 the micro usb is as obsolete as the Sony proprietary port so that's no advantage now. Vita has been given a second life by it's community and it's a really enjoyable system to have and play.
